If you mean creating animated-style girl illustrations, a useful starting point is to treat the character as a combination of anatomy, facial features and expression, pose, clothing, and color—not just a face with large eyes. Anime- and manga-influenced drawing guides cover these skills in both traditional and digital media. If you’re looking for existing artwork instead, stock-art listings are a separate option, and each asset’s license matters.

What goes into an animated girl illustration?
“Animated girl illustrations” can mean either artwork you want to make or images you want to find. For drawing, a practical learning path is to build a character from the underlying forms outward:
- Plan the pose. Use a simple gesture and body construction before adding detail. The pose helps determine the character’s silhouette and how clothing will hang.
- Develop anatomy and proportions. Establish the head, torso, limbs, and their relationships. Stylization can change proportions, but the body still needs to read clearly in the chosen pose.
- Shape the face and expression. Place facial features in relation to the head, then use their shapes and angles to communicate expression.
- Design hair and clothing. Treat these as forms that follow the head and body rather than details pasted on afterward. Clothing folds should support the pose.
- Choose color and finish. Color can clarify form and mood. Your finishing process will depend on whether you are working with traditional materials or digital tools.
These are learning areas, not rules for one fixed anime style. The cited guides describe instruction in anatomy, facial features, expressions, poses, clothing, and color, while different artists may simplify or emphasize them differently.

Choose a drawing guide for your medium and focus
Publisher descriptions provide a useful way to compare the scope of these books. They do not establish independent teaching quality or current availability at retailers.
| Guide | Focus and format | Publisher-listed contents | Useful if you want |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drawing Magical Manga Girls by Huyen Reichert | Female manga characters; paperback, 144 pages | Quarto/Walter Foster lists 16 character projects and instruction involving pencil, fineliner, watercolor, and digital methods, including a digital chapter and software tutorials. | A guide centered specifically on manga girls and spanning traditional and digital media. Publisher listing: Quarto; digital chapter description: Walter Foster Publishing. |
| Learn to Draw Exciting Anime & Manga Characters | General anime and manga character drawing | Tuttle lists instruction across character-drawing topics and over 600 sample illustrations in its 2022 listing. | A broader character-drawing resource rather than one focused exclusively on girls. Publisher listing: Tuttle Publishing. |
| Manga & Anime Digital Illustration Guide | Digital anime and manga illustration | Tuttle describes digital illustration techniques and lists over 650 color illustrations in its 2023 listing. | Digital workflow instruction rather than a female-character-only guide. Publisher listing: Tuttle Publishing. |
For a beginner, compare the lesson sequence and whether the book explains the fundamentals you need. If you already draw comfortably, check whether its projects or digital techniques match the style and tools you want to use. These publisher pages describe contents; they do not confirm present stock or independently assess how well the lessons teach.

Traditional materials or digital drawing?
Both approaches can support anime- and manga-inspired character art. The right choice depends on the tools you prefer and the kind of instruction you need.
- Traditional: The Quarto/Walter Foster description for Drawing Magical Manga Girls lists pencil, fineliner, and watercolor instruction. These media suit a paper-based process that moves from sketching to line and color.
- Digital: The same guide includes a digital chapter and software tutorials, while Tuttle’s Manga & Anime Digital Illustration Guide focuses on digital techniques. Software-specific guidance is most relevant if you plan to use the programs covered by the book.
Do not assume a guide covers every program or medium. Check its description for the exact tools and techniques before choosing it.

Where to find existing animated girl illustrations
If you want artwork rather than drawing instruction, an illustration marketplace is a different route. iStock maintains an “Anime Girl Drawing” category; its listing showed more than 2,500 illustrations and vector graphics when accessed October 5, 2026. That is a changing count for one platform category, not a measure of the overall supply of anime-style art. Browse iStock’s Anime Girl Drawing illustrations and review the license attached to the specific asset before using it, especially for commercial, promotional, or redistributed work.
