Verdict: the Anycubic Kobra 3 V2 is an excellent fast printer for the money, but its Combo bundle is not quite the effortless multicolor appliance it appears to be. The printer itself is substantially beginner-friendly: calibration is automated, single-color PLA and PETG prints can look excellent, and the revised software is much better than the original Kobra 3’s launch experience. The weak point is the ACE Pro material system, where jams, tangles, failed retractions and purge waste can turn a simple color print into a troubleshooting session.

Buy it if you want relatively inexpensive multicolor printing and can tolerate occasional maintenance. Avoid it if you expect Bambu-like unattended reliability or have no interest in clearing filament paths.

What the Kobra 3 V2 Combo actually includes

The standard Kobra 3 V2 Combo combines an open-frame FDM printer with one ACE Pro automated material unit. One ACE Pro supports up to four colors. An eight-color setup requires two ACE Pro units and an additional connection module, along with more cables, filament paths and opportunities for feeding problems.

  • 【Dual-Sided PEI Spring Steel Plate & All-Metal Hotend (300°C)】Effortless print removal + 100% adhesion reliability; swap nozzles instantly (0.4mm standard) for PLA/PETG/TPU filaments at high temps

That distinction matters. “Supports eight colors” does not mean the ordinary Combo package contains an eight-color system. The four-color bundle is the relevant configuration for most buyers; the two-unit arrangement is a specialist upgrade rather than an automatic reason to spend more.

The printer has a 255 × 255 × 260 mm build volume, a 0.4 mm nozzle, a direct-drive tool head, a claimed maximum speed of 600 mm/s and a recommended speed of 300 mm/s. Anycubic lists PLA, PETG and TPU for the printer, but TPU is single-color only and cannot be fed through the ACE Pro. The machine has a heated bed rated to 110 °C, a nozzle rated to 300 °C, a 720p camera and advertised operating noise of approximately 55 dB.

Anycubic also lists other ACE Pro-compatible materials, including ABS, ASA, PA, PC, PP and HIPS. That does not make them equally easy choices: an open-frame printer is a less suitable environment for many warping-sensitive engineering plastics than an enclosed machine.

Setup is manageable, not instant

The printer arrives mostly assembled, but “take it out of the box and immediately print” is an overstatement. You still need to attach or install the printhead, printhead cable, touchscreen, cable holder, purge wiper, camera, camera cable, ACE Pro signal cable and Bowden tubes. Single-color users may also install the spool holder.

The camera is an especially revealing example of the Kobra 3 V2’s character. The camera is included, but its mounting housing must be printed and installed; Anycubic says the relevant parts are stored in the printer’s memory. In other words, the printer can make part of its own monitoring hardware, but the owner still has to complete that step.

Tom’s Hardware found the physical assembly straightforward. A first-time owner should be able to follow the instructions without advanced mechanical knowledge, but should expect a real installation job rather than a tool-free setup. Cable routing is also less elegant than on more polished systems, particularly around the front-facing connections and ACE Pro tubes.

Automatic calibration: useful, not magical

The Kobra 3 V2 performs automatic bed leveling, vibration compensation and PID tuning during setup. Anycubic calls the system LeviQ 3.0 automatic leveling with zoned leveling. In testing, the automatic process handled the Z-offset successfully.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That removes much of the intimidating calibration work from a beginner’s first print. It does not make the printer immune to a dirty build plate, a shifted gantry, loose belts, a damaged PEI surface or a first layer affected by a mechanical move. If the printer has been transported, or if the first layer suddenly changes, clean the plate and rerun the relevant calibration before assuming the sensor has failed.

Print quality: the printer is better than the multicolor system

For ordinary single-color work, the evidence is favorable. Tom’s Hardware reported excellent PLA quality and clean TPU results, while Creative Bloq described the print quality as excellent when the machine was functioning correctly. PETG is also within the printer’s stated material range.

The most dependable way to use the Combo is often simply to ignore the multicolor system. You can run the Kobra 3 V2 as a conventional direct-drive FDM printer with one spool, avoiding most of the ACE Pro’s failure points. That makes the Combo less wasteful and easier to diagnose than a color print, and it gives the owner a useful fallback when a material channel misbehaves.

The open frame is appropriate for PLA and many PETG jobs, but it is not the same as an enclosed printer for ABS, ASA or other materials that benefit from a stable warm chamber. The hotend temperature rating alone should not be treated as a promise of effortless success with every material Anycubic lists for the ACE Pro.

600 mm/s is a ceiling, not a typical print speed

Anycubic advertises a maximum speed of 600 mm/s, a recommended speed of 300 mm/s and maximum acceleration of 20,000 mm/s². Those figures describe capability under suitable conditions, not the time every model will take.

Actual throughput is constrained by acceleration, travel moves, layer geometry, cooling, surface-quality targets and, in multicolor jobs, every filament change and purge cycle. In Tom’s Hardware’s practical PLA test, a long print averaged roughly 130 mm/s. That is a more useful expectation for everyday planning than the headline maximum.

Multicolor printing is slower still because the machine must retract one filament, load another, purge the old color and establish stable extrusion again. A fast motion system cannot remove that material-change overhead.

The ACE Pro is the deciding issue

The ACE Pro automatically feeds and switches filament, supports RFID identification for Anycubic filament and accepts manually configured third-party filament. It also actively dries filament while printing. Tom’s Hardware reported drying temperatures up to approximately 55 °C, which can be useful for PLA, PVA and PETG.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That dryer is a genuine advantage over a passive filament box, but it is not a universal cure. Drying will not repair a tangled spool, damaged PTFE tubing, a blocked nozzle, a failing drive gear, incorrect temperature or a poor retraction profile. Moisture control and reliable filament transport are separate problems.

Waste is part of the color workflow

Every filament change requires purging. Waste depends on the number of changes, color contrast, purge settings, model geometry, whether a purge object absorbs the material and whether a failed switch causes additional purging. Tom’s Hardware observed approximately 100 g of waste on one multicolor print. That is an illustrative test result, not a universal waste rate.

The revised slicer improves purge control compared with the original Kobra 3 software, but it cannot eliminate the physical need to clear one color before printing another. If you print mostly single-color objects, the Combo’s color capability may sit unused while still occupying valuable desk space.

Common ACE Pro failure modes

Long-term Creative Bloq testing reported recurring ACE Pro clogs, jams and filament tangles. Earlier All3DP coverage of the original Kobra 3 Combo also described a first-generation system whose software and hardware ecosystem was not fully mature. The V2 improves the experience, but later reports show that the material-handling system remains the product’s main vulnerability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Typical symptoms include filament that will not load, repeated retraction errors, a spool that spins without advancing, broken filament left in a Bowden tube, or a failed color change even though the printer itself is correctly calibrated.

A sensible recovery process is:

  1. Stop the print before pulling aggressively on the filament.
  2. Determine whether the resistance is at the spool, ACE Pro inlet, Bowden tube or tool head.
  3. Remove the affected spool and cut away damaged or swollen filament.
  4. Check that the spool rotates freely and is not crossed over itself.
  5. Inspect the tube and connectors for fragments or unusual resistance.
  6. Reload in single-color mode and run a short extrusion test.
  7. If the same channel repeatedly fails, document the problem and contact Anycubic support rather than repeatedly forcing filament through it.

Spool dimensions matter too. Anycubic specifies approximate compatibility for 1 kg spools of 195–200 mm outer diameter, 60–68 mm thickness and a 3–3.5 mm outer wall. Oversized, unusually narrow, poorly wound or brittle spools can make feeding less reliable.

Software is the V2’s biggest improvement

The Kobra 3 V2 uses Kobra OS and Anycubic Slicer Next, which Anycubic describes as being based on Orca-derived open-source software. The ecosystem also includes an app for remote monitoring and control.

The original Kobra 3 developed a reputation for immature software and a “launch first, refine later” experience. Tom’s Hardware found the revised V2 slicer substantially better, particularly in its purge controls. That means older reviews should not be treated as a perfect description of the V2.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

However, better slicing cannot eliminate a physical jam. The software can coordinate a color change and reduce unnecessary purge material; it cannot make a badly wound spool unwind properly or clear a fragment from a Bowden tube.

Camera and AI detection: useful supervision aids

The 720p camera can provide remote monitoring and AI-assisted spaghetti detection. It is useful for checking whether a print is progressing, but Tom’s Hardware criticized the small viewing window and mediocre, jerky time-lapse results.

AI detection should be treated as a secondary safety feature, not a guarantee against failure. A camera may help you notice a detached print or spaghetti, but it cannot reliably prevent every failure and does not replace supervision for expensive, long-duration jobs.

Maintenance and ownership

The Kobra 3 V2 is not unusually demanding for an FDM printer, but the Combo adds more material paths to maintain. A beginner should expect to:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Clean the PEI build plate regularly.
  • Inspect the nozzle and purge area for accumulated material.
  • Remove filament fragments from Bowden tubes.
  • Check that spools are wound cleanly and rotate without resistance.
  • Clear ACE Pro jams promptly rather than forcing filament through them.
  • Lubricate moving parts according to the current instructions.
  • Inspect belts, fasteners and the gantry after moving the printer.
  • Keep firmware and slicer versions aligned.
  • Test short single-color extrusion before diagnosing a complicated multicolor failure.

Nozzle service deserves caution. Tom’s Hardware reported that the brass nozzle is glued into the heater block and warned that unscrewing it can damage the nozzle. Verify the current replacement procedure before attempting service; nozzle replacement is not necessarily a casual, tool-free operation.

Symptom-based troubleshooting

Symptom Likely area First response
Filament will not load Spool, inlet or tube Check spool rotation, filament condition and the full tube path.
Repeated color-switch failure ACE Pro feed path Remove damaged filament, inspect the channel and test it alone.
Poor first layer Plate, leveling or gantry Clean the plate, check for mechanical shifts and rerun calibration.
Stringing, bubbling or rough extrusion Moisture or temperature Dry the filament and verify the material profile.
Camera unavailable Cable or printed mount Check the camera cable, mount and connection.
Long multicolor print fails late Purge or feed reliability Run shorter color jobs, inspect the affected channel and avoid restarting blindly.

Desk space, cables and noise

The ACE Pro is not a tiny accessory. Allow room beside or behind the printer for the unit, Bowden tubes, cables and spool access. Measure the printer footprint, ACE Pro footprint, rear and side clearance, cable bend radius and access needed to remove the build plate.

Tom’s Hardware criticized the front-facing cable arrangement and resulting cable clutter. Anycubic’s approximately 55 dB figure is a manufacturer specification rather than an independent measurement, so do not assume the machine is suitable for a bedroom or shared workspace without considering your own noise tolerance.

How it compares with the alternatives

Bambu Lab A1 Combo

Choose the A1 Combo if your priority is a more polished beginner-oriented multicolor workflow and a compact ecosystem. It is the clearest alternative for readers who want fewer setup and troubleshooting surprises. The Kobra 3 V2 counters with a 255 × 255 × 260 mm build volume and active drying in the ACE Pro, but the A1-style experience is generally the stronger fit for buyers who value convenience above all else.

Anycubic Kobra S1 Combo

The Kobra S1 Combo makes more sense for buyers who want an enclosed multicolor printer and greater flexibility with materials such as ABS and ASA. The enclosure increases cost and physical size, but it is a more appropriate platform for materials that dislike open-frame printing.

Elegoo Centauri Carbon

If you do not need multicolor printing, a fast single-color machine such as the Elegoo Centauri Carbon avoids ACE Pro complexity, color-change waste and additional filament paths. It is the more rational choice for straightforward PLA printing.

The original Anycubic Kobra 3

A discounted original Kobra 3 is worth considering only after comparing its price with the cost of V2-related upgrades. Anycubic says some improvements, including the camera and hotend, can be added to earlier units. The V2 is a meaningful refinement, but not necessarily enough to justify replacing an existing printer at any price.

Price and package caveats

Prices vary by country, plug type, tax, shipping, promotion and package configuration. The official Anycubic listing displayed $355 for the selected listing when checked on August 16–18, 2026, while Tom’s Hardware discussed an approximately $399 Combo price during its review period. Treat both as dated price signals, not permanent MSRP.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before buying, confirm whether the listing is for the printer alone, the four-color Combo or the two-ACE-Pro eight-color configuration. Also check the included plug type and whether the price includes the connection hardware required for the advertised color count.

Who should buy the Kobra 3 V2 Combo?

Buy it if:

  • You want multicolor printing at a relatively low entry price.
  • You primarily use PLA or PETG.
  • You value active filament drying.
  • You want a larger build area than compact beginner printers.
  • You are comfortable switching to single-color printing when the ACE Pro misbehaves.
  • You prefer a fast open-frame printer and accept some DIY maintenance.

Avoid it if:

  • You expect appliance-like, unattended multicolor reliability.
  • You operate a print farm or depend on production uptime.
  • You dislike clearing filament paths and troubleshooting feeding errors.
  • You need reliable multicolor TPU.
  • You print engineering materials that benefit from an enclosure.
  • You have limited desk space or want minimal purge waste.
  • You want the strongest possible after-sales experience without handling warranty issues yourself.

Final verdict

The Anycubic Kobra 3 V2 Combo gets the important part right: the underlying printer is fast, capable and considerably easier to start than its reputation might suggest. Automatic leveling, good single-color quality, a useful build volume and improved slicer software make it a credible beginner machine.

But the Combo is two products joined together. The Kobra 3 V2 printer is the dependable half; the ACE Pro is the more temperamental half. Multicolor printing works best when you accept purge waste, monitor long jobs and are willing to inspect spools, tubes and feed mechanisms when something goes wrong.

For a budget-conscious hobbyist who wants occasional color and does not mind tinkering, it is a strong-value recommendation. For someone seeking the smoothest possible multicolor ownership, the Bambu Lab A1 Combo is the safer comparison. For single-color printing, skip the complexity and buy a simpler printer—or use the Kobra 3 V2 in single-color mode.
