The available project documentation does not establish which Doonan house used an ARCPANEL insulated roof system. Two separate Queensland projects are easy to confuse: the 2015 Doonan Glasshouse by Sarah Waller Design and a 2024 Doonan House by Kelly Martin Architect with Responsive Building. Neither project page names ARCPANEL. What can be explained confidently is the documented architecture of those projects and what ARCPANEL’s manufacturer says its residential panel systems are designed to do.

Start with the project identity
A roof-system claim is only useful when it is tied to the correct building. The Architecture & Design title refers to a Doonan house, but the publicly available descriptions do not provide enough evidence to connect ARCPANEL to a specific address, architect, builder or completion date. Treating either documented project as the titled house would turn two different buildings into one.

| Doonan Glasshouse | 2015, Doonan, Queensland | Sarah Waller Design | 660 m² self-designed and built home; near-flat roof; full-height glass; L-shaped plan; indoor-outdoor intent; mid-century modern inspiration | Not stated on the ArchDaily project page |
| Doonan House | 2024, Queensland | Kelly Martin Architect with Responsive Building | Living-space roof lifted and opened to the sides; rammed-earth walls | Not stated on the project listing |
The distinction matters because roof shape, structural spans, interior finishes and insulation requirements depend on the actual design. A near-flat glazed house and a house with a lifted roof over rammed-earth walls may have very different engineering and weatherproofing details.

What the 2015 Doonan Glasshouse record establishes
ArchDaily describes the Doonan Glasshouse as a 660-square-metre residence designed and built by Sarah Waller Design. The description presents it as the architect’s own home, organized in an L-shaped arrangement around an indoor-outdoor way of living. Full-height glazing and a near-flat roof are central to the architectural expression, with mid-century modern references informing the design.
Those are project facts, not evidence of a particular roof manufacturer or panel model. The page does not identify an ARCPANEL product, panel thickness, insulation core, structural span, interior ceiling finish or roof-performance result. It also does not establish that the roof is a Delta ARCPANEL assembly rather than another concealed or low-profile construction.
What the 2024 Doonan House record establishes
A separate listing for a 2024 Queensland project called Doonan House credits Kelly Martin Architect and Responsive Building. Its description says the roof over the living spaces was lifted and opened to the sides, set against rammed-earth walls. That roof gesture may create a strong connection between interior and landscape, but the listing does not name ARCPANEL or provide a panel specification.

What an ARCPANEL insulated roof system is
ARCPANEL’s manufacturer describes its residential systems as integrated roof solutions. In the manufacturer’s explanation, a panel can combine the external roofing layer, insulation and a pre-finished internal ceiling. That arrangement is intended to reduce the number of separate roof and ceiling components required in the finished assembly.
The manufacturer also presents long spans and cantilevers as possible design applications, alongside claimed benefits such as thermal comfort and a ready-finished interior surface. These statements describe the product range in general. They do not prove that a Doonan project achieved a particular span, energy result, acoustic rating or construction speed.
Configurations in the current range
The current product-range description lists straight, curved and multi-curved panel configurations. It identifies DeltaCorroCorro, DeltaTrimCorro and DeltaTrimTrim systems and explains that the options suit different roof-pitch applications. The pages do not establish which configuration, core, thickness, coating, colour, pitch or structural capacity was used on the house in the title.

“Insulated roof system” therefore describes a type of integrated assembly, not a complete specification. A project still needs a nominated panel build-up, structural design, fixing schedule, drainage strategy, condensation control and confirmation that the selected finish is appropriate for the site.

Why a near-flat or lifted roof needs project-specific evidence
Roof geometry changes the questions an engineer and builder must answer. A near-flat roof generally leaves less visual tolerance for ponding, drainage errors and uneven framing. A roof that is lifted and open at the sides introduces questions about edge protection, wind exposure, flashing, gutter transitions and how the roof bears on the supporting walls.
Large areas of full-height glazing add another coordination issue. Roof structure, shading, glazing head details and waterproofing must meet at the same junction. An integrated panel may provide a finished underside, but it does not remove the need to design those interfaces.
Long spans and cantilevers are also not automatic properties of every ARCPANEL selection. The required span, support spacing, imposed loads, wind classification, roof pitch and fixing pattern determine whether a proposed panel is suitable. A manufacturer’s broad capability statement cannot substitute for signed project engineering.
How to verify whether the Doonan house used ARCPANEL
- Obtain the complete feature. Check the Architecture & Design article for a street-level project name, architect, builder, photographer credit, completion year or image captions. A matching project identifier is more reliable than the generic phrase “Doonan house.”
- Match the photographs to a project record. Compare roof profile, glazing arrangement, wall materials and plan form with the 2015 Glasshouse and the 2024 Doonan House descriptions. Do not rely on a similar-looking roof alone.
- Ask the architect or builder for the roof schedule. Request the manufacturer, system name, panel profile, insulation core, thickness, external finish, internal ceiling finish and nominated roof pitch.
- Request engineering documentation. For a credible identification, look for the structural calculations, wind classification, support spacing, span or cantilever limits, fastener schedule and certification applicable to the site.
- Confirm the installed finish on site. The visible underside may be a pre-finished ceiling, but linings, paint or acoustic treatments can conceal the original panel surface. Photographs taken during construction, delivery records or as-built documents are stronger evidence than a finished-room image.
- Separate manufacturer information from project evidence. Delta’s general ARCPANEL pages can explain how the system works, while only project documentation can show whether that system was installed at this particular Doonan house.
What the documented architecture suggests—and what it does not
The Glasshouse’s indoor-outdoor strategy
The Glasshouse description links its L-shaped plan, full-height glazing and near-flat roof to an indoor-outdoor design intent. In practical terms, that combination places emphasis on visual continuity, roof lines that do not dominate the elevations and careful control of junctions between enclosed rooms and exterior spaces.

- Bates paint brushes come in a convenient 6 pieces with 3 flat and 3 angled bristle styles, including (1”, 1.5”, 2”) flat and (1.5”, 2”, 2.5”) angled bristles, perfect for tackling any surface painting or staining job.
- The sturdy natural bristles of each brush are designed to hold more paint, creating a smoother finish with fewer streaks and saving you time on the job.
- The lightweight wooden handles provide extra comfort and ease during long painting processes like walls, trims, cabinets, and doors.
- These versatile brushes are ready-to-use, easy to clean, and can be reused multiple times, making them economical as well as reliable tools for any painting project.
- Bates paint brushes can be used for both oil-based paints as well as latex stains and are ideal for home or commercial projects such as decks, fences or DIY painting jobs.
It would be reasonable to investigate whether an integrated panel helped create a clean ceiling plane or long unsupported-looking edges, but the project record does not say that it did. It also provides no measured thermal, daylight, energy or acoustic data attributable to ARCPANEL.
The 2024 house’s lifted roof
The 2024 listing describes a roof lifted away from the sides of the living spaces and paired with rammed-earth walls. That description indicates a deliberate sectional move: the roof is not simply a flat cover, but part of the project’s spatial and environmental composition.
Again, the description does not identify the roof’s construction. A lifted roof could be built with several structural systems, including but not limited to an insulated panel assembly. The wall material, roof gesture and project date are not proof of a shared product.
Questions to answer before specifying an ARCPANEL system
For a new house or renovation inspired by either Doonan project, the following questions should be resolved in the design documentation rather than inferred from photographs:

- Geometry: Is the roof straight, curved or multi-curved? What pitch, falls, valleys, ridges and drainage points are required?
- Structure: What clear span, support spacing and cantilever are required, and what loads govern the design?
- Thermal build-up: Which insulation core and thickness meet the project’s climate, condensation and energy requirements?
- Interior finish: Is the pre-finished underside intended to remain exposed, or will it receive paint, lining, lighting or acoustic treatment?
- External finish: Which corrosion-resistant coating and profile suit the site’s exposure, roof pitch and visual brief?
- Open edges: How will flashings, gutters, fascia, parapets and wind-driven rain be detailed where the roof is lifted or cantilevered?
- Services: Where will electrical, ventilation, lighting and rainwater components run without compromising the panel or its vapour-control strategy?
- Approvals: Which engineering certification, fire documentation, energy assessment and installation instructions apply to the jurisdiction?
These are selection and verification questions, not confirmed attributes of the Doonan house named in the title.
Common mistakes when reading an architecture feature
- Assuming a product from a visual effect: A thin roof edge or smooth ceiling can be produced by several assemblies.
- Merging projects with similar names: “Doonan Glasshouse” and “Doonan House” refer to different documented projects.
- Moving a range claim into a project claim: The ability of a product family to accommodate spans or curves does not reveal the design used on one building.
- Confusing a finished ceiling with the roof structure: A visible interior surface may conceal framing, services or additional linings.
- Quoting performance without a test basis: No named project statistic, laboratory result or verified quotation is provided for the titled installation.
What is actually known about the titled installation?
At present, the strongest defensible answer is limited. The title associates a Doonan house with an ARCPANEL insulated roof system, but the accessible project pages do not confirm the exact house or installation. The 2015 Glasshouse is documented as a 660-square-metre Sarah Waller Design project with a near-flat roof and full-height glazing. The separate 2024 Doonan House is documented as a Kelly Martin Architect and Responsive Building project with a lifted living-space roof and rammed-earth walls. Neither page names ARCPANEL.
ARCPANEL’s manufacturer describes an integrated approach that can combine roofing, insulation and a pre-finished internal ceiling, with straight and curved options across several system families. Those general characteristics explain why the product might appear in an architecture feature, but they cannot identify the panel model or prove performance at either Doonan project. Confirmation requires the feature’s project metadata or construction documentation from the architect, builder or manufacturer.
