Yes—but only in the limited sense that ArtWorkout can give you a focused drawing lesson in about 10–20 minutes. It cannot make someone proficient at drawing after one session. The iPad app’s real value is its combination of guided exercises, direct drawing practice, and algorithmic feedback on your strokes.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
That makes ArtWorkout worth trying for beginners, children with parental supervision, lapsed artists, and anyone who needs a low-friction daily routine. It is a poorer choice if you want a professional illustration workspace, human critique, or a one-time purchase.

ArtWorkout is a guided drawing trainer rather than a conventional painting app. Instead of opening with an empty canvas and leaving you to decide what to do, it gives you structured exercises and asks you to draw inside the lesson.

The app analyzes your strokes and provides immediate feedback as you work. Its curriculum covers subjects and skills including line work, shapes, shading, perspective, anatomy, doodling, sketching, painting, handwriting, and lettering. It also supports Apple Pencil, free-drawing activities, and multiplayer drawing.
The distinction matters:
- ArtWorkout: practice, instruction, prompts, progression, and feedback.
- Procreate and similar apps: flexible tools for making finished illustrations, paintings, and designs.
ArtWorkout may help you become more comfortable with drawing, but it is not designed to replace a full digital art studio.
What happens in a 15-minute session?
The “15 minutes” message is best understood as a session-length or habit promise, not a guarantee of artistic ability. ArtWorkout’s official positioning describes short sessions of roughly 10–20 minutes, and its App Store listing emphasizes bite-sized lessons.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →A typical activity generally follows this draw–feedback–repeat pattern:
- Open the app and choose a lesson, course, or quick activity.
- Follow the on-screen example or instruction.
- Draw the requested line, shape, or object directly on the iPad.
- Review the app’s feedback about the exercise.
- Repeat the step or move forward.
- Finish with a score, progress indicator, completed drawing, or lesson result, depending on the activity.
- Save or share the result where that activity supports it.
The exact screens and controls can change between app versions and lesson types, so it would be misleading to promise one universal sequence. The reliable point is that you are not merely watching a tutorial: you are drawing during the lesson and receiving feedback on what you draw.
Does ArtWorkout really teach drawing?
It can teach useful foundations, particularly when the alternative is doing no practice at all. The app is strongest at turning drawing into a repeatable activity with a clear next step.
What it can help with
- Basic hand control and line confidence.
- Repeating simple forms and patterns.
- Following a visual sequence.
- Recognizing and practicing shapes, shading, perspective, anatomy, and line work.
- Building a consistent drawing habit.
- Becoming more comfortable with digital drawing tools.
- Getting started when a blank canvas feels intimidating.
Short, frequent practice can be easier to sustain than an ambitious course that requires an hour every evening. The app’s official materials describe structured learning and immediate feedback, but there is no basis for treating it as proof that every user will improve at the same rate.
What it cannot guarantee
- Drawing proficiency after one 15-minute session.
- Strong observational drawing without independent practice.
- Reliable mastery of proportion, composition, anatomy, or perspective simply by collecting scores.
- A professional portfolio.
- Automatic transfer of every digital exercise to traditional pencil-and-paper work.
ArtWorkout supplies practice, instruction, and feedback. Improvement still depends on repetition, attention, willingness to redraw, and practice outside the app.

How to interpret the stroke analysis
ArtWorkout says it evaluates the accuracy and quality of drawn lines. That can be useful for exercises where placement, direction, shape, or conformity to a target matters.
But this is algorithmic evaluation, not individualized criticism from an art teacher. A high score may mean that your mark closely followed the intended exercise; it does not necessarily mean that the drawing is expressive, original, emotionally effective, or artistically interesting.
Use the scores as guidance and motivation rather than as an absolute judgment of your ability. Accuracy is only one part of drawing. Style, mood, composition, visual storytelling, and creative decisions are harder to reduce to a numerical result.

ArtWorkout’s main modes
The developer’s FAQ identifies several ways to use the app:
- Relax: calming, low-pressure drawing activities.
- Learn: structured skill-development exercises.
- Draw: freer creative activity.
- Multiplayer: drawing with friends or the wider community.
This range gives ArtWorkout more flexibility than a single linear course. You can use it for deliberate practice, a warm-up, casual doodling, or collaborative challenges. It also means the app may feel more like a gamified creative platform than a traditional classroom.
Who should use ArtWorkout?
It is a good fit for
- Complete beginners who want instructions instead of an empty canvas.
- Adults who can commit to short, low-pressure sessions.
- Children and teenagers whose parents have reviewed the app’s social and purchase features.
- People who learn by doing rather than watching long video lessons.
- Users who want prompts, repetition, and a routine.
- Existing artists looking for line-control exercises or warm-ups.
The developer says the app is designed for children aged six and up and includes age- and skill-adapted content. That is not a substitute for parental supervision.
It is a poorer fit for
- Professional illustrators who need advanced brushes, layers, typography, animation, or production workflows.
- Users who dislike scores, streaks, gamification, or subscription prompts.
- People who prefer detailed spoken explanations in a conventional video course.
- Anyone seeking a one-time-purchase-only app.
- Users without a compatible iPad who expect the full Apple Pencil experience.
Is ArtWorkout suitable for children?
Short activities can be easier for a child to finish than long lessons, and the app has an educational and creative focus. The US App Store listing gives it a 4+ age rating, while the developer FAQ discusses content for children aged six and older.

- Whether multiplayer is appropriate for the child’s age and situation.
The App Store listing says PRO includes unlimited multiplayer, and its release notes indicate that at least some multiplayer lessons can be completed solo. Feature availability and controls can change, so check the current app and account settings rather than assuming that the age rating answers every safety question.
Does ArtWorkout work without an Apple Pencil?
ArtWorkout specifically advertises Apple Pencil support, and a Pencil is the preferred setup for controlled line work and pressure-sensitive input. The available public information does not establish that every lesson requires an Apple Pencil or that every iPad and third-party stylus behaves identically.
Finger input may work for some activities, but it is less likely to provide the precision many learners want. Before subscribing, check that:
- Your iPad runs iPadOS 16 or later.
- Your iPad supports the Apple Pencil generation you plan to use.
- The Pencil is paired and charged.
- You are comfortable with the screen size for drawing.
Do not buy a particular Pencil until you have matched it to your iPad model. Apple’s official Apple Pencil page provides compatibility information.
Is ArtWorkout free?
ArtWorkout is free to download, not fully free. According to the current US App Store listing reviewed for this guide, PRO unlocks the full catalog of more than 3,500 lessons and courses, new course content, unlimited multiplayer, and an ad-free experience.
The same listing shows weekly, monthly, and annual subscription options. Prices displayed in the US listing included $4.99 weekly and annual options of $41.99, $59.99, and $69.99. These should not be treated as universal prices: offers can vary by country, plan, promotion, and account state. Check the exact price and billing period on your own Apple purchase screen before confirming.
Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. If you start a trial or subscription, manage renewal through your Apple ID’s App Store account settings. The exact labels can vary by iPadOS version.

How many lessons does ArtWorkout include?
The current US App Store listing says 3,500+ interactive lessons. The catalog is updated over time, so the number may change. Older pages and reviews may mention 2,500-plus lessons and iOS 15; those figures are outdated relative to the current listing reviewed for this article.

ArtWorkout versus Procreate, Simply Draw, and DrawUp
| App or option | Learning approach | Feedback and freedom | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| ArtWorkout | Interactive exercises and structured progression | Algorithmic stroke feedback; moderate creative freedom | Beginners who want guided practice and short sessions |
| Procreate | No built-in beginner curriculum comparable to ArtWorkout | Very high creative and production control | Finished illustrations, painting, and professional iPad workflows |
| Simply Draw | Step-by-step video lessons and personalized subject paths | Video-led instruction rather than ArtWorkout-style stroke analysis | Users who prefer guided video teaching |
| DrawUp | Interactive tutorials and daily drawing exercises | Guided practice; the available listing does not establish equivalent real-time stroke analysis | Users seeking another lesson-based drawing app |
| Traditional classes or free resources | Human instruction or self-directed curricula | Potential for personalized critique; variable convenience and cost | People who want critique or want to avoid recurring subscriptions |
Procreate is not really a direct substitute for ArtWorkout. It is better when you already know what you want to make and need a powerful canvas. ArtWorkout is better when you want the app to tell you what to practice next.
Simply Draw is a more natural comparison for people who prefer video instruction. It also uses in-app purchases and subscription-style pricing, so it should not automatically be assumed to be cheaper.
DrawUp may suit users seeking interactive tutorials and daily exercises, but the available listing does not prove that its feedback system matches ArtWorkout’s stroke analysis.

Verdict: is ArtWorkout worth trying?
ArtWorkout is worth trying if you want guided beginner practice in short sessions. Its interactive lessons and stroke feedback offer more direction than a blank-canvas app, and a 10–20-minute routine is a realistic way to make drawing part of your week.
Do not interpret “learn to draw in 15 minutes” as a promise of mastery. In one session, you may complete a focused exercise, practice a fundamental, and receive useful feedback. Becoming capable at drawing requires sustained practice, observation, and judgment that no automated score can provide.
Choose ArtWorkout over Procreate when your priority is learning through guided exercises. Choose Procreate or another art studio when your priority is creating finished work with maximum control. If you are considering PRO, confirm the exact price, trial terms, renewal date, device compatibility, and free-versus-paid lesson boundary before subscribing.
