Au.diBoard VoglFuge is a continuously perforated acoustic plasterboard ceiling system made for a flush, designer finish. Its defining feature is a patented strip-tape-and-glue joint instead of compound filler. When the panels, CD 60/27 suspension, insulation, services, movement joints and paint system are designed as one assembly, the result is a seamless-looking ceiling with controlled sound absorption and a wide choice of perforation patterns.
What Au.diBoard VoglFuge is
Au.diBoard VoglFuge is not a loose acoustic tile. It is a suspended gypsum-board ceiling assembly in which perforated 12.5 mm panels are fixed edge to edge and finished to appear continuous. Vogl describes the system as a seamless perforated acoustic gypsum-board ceiling; Atkar describes the patented process as strip tape and glue at panel joints instead of compound filler.

That joint technology is the main reason designers specify VoglFuge. The tape-and-glue process is intended to shorten finishing work and improve resistance to cracking compared with a conventional filled plasterboard joint. The claim applies to a correctly installed system, not simply to any perforated board attached to a ceiling.
Behind the visible surface are suspended CD 60/27 primary and secondary profiles, fixings, acoustic insulation, independently supported services, access provisions and planned movement joints. The ceiling therefore has to be documented and coordinated before panels arrive on site.

Start with the acoustic and visual brief
Define the room’s sound target
Begin by identifying how the room is used: speech-focused, music, hospitality, education, workplace or circulation. The perforation pattern, open area, insulation depth and room geometry all influence the acoustic result. Published material for the system does not provide one universal absorption value for every pattern and finish, so the project team should obtain the performance data for the exact selected panel and backing build-up.
Choose the appearance before ordering
VoglFuge panels are supplied in standard perforation profiles and can also be specified in custom patterns, colours, shapes and finishes through the supplier. Decide the panel layout, perimeter treatment, bulkheads, reveals and transitions with the reflected ceiling plan rather than trying to conceal design changes during jointing.
| Manufacturer pattern | Panel thickness | How to use the information |
|---|---|---|
| 6/18R | 12.5 mm | Standard perforation option; confirm open area and acoustic data for the selected board. |
| 8/18R | 12.5 mm | Standard perforation option; coordinate pattern direction and panel module on shop drawings. |
| 10/23R | 12.5 mm | Standard perforation option; verify the approved substrate, backing and finish. |
| 12/25R | 12.5 mm | Standard perforation option; check how the module meets lights, grilles and perimeter trims. |
| 15/30R | 12.5 mm | Standard perforation option; obtain project-specific acoustic and fire documentation. |
| 8/12/50R | 12.5 mm | Standard perforation option; confirm the exact visual sample before manufacture. |
The pattern names identify the manufacturer’s perforation families; they are not a substitute for an approved data sheet. Samples are particularly important because hole scale, edge detail and paint colour read differently at ceiling height than on a small drawing.
Coordinate the complete ceiling before fabrication
Set the panel grid and perimeter
Lay out full panels where they will be most visible and reserve cut panels for less prominent edges. Resolve perimeter angles, shadow gaps, bulkheads and changes in ceiling level in the shop drawing. Atkar provides shop drawings for standard-range panels for sign-off before manufacture; use that review to confirm the module, pattern alignment and all openings.

Reserve every service opening
Coordinate lights, air outlets, smoke detectors, sprinklers, speakers, inspection openings and curtains before the jointing stage. Openings and light recesses should be completed before forming the VoglFuge joints. Services must be independently suspended rather than loaded from the perforated boards or their framing.
Provide access without breaking the design
Use system-compatible access panels and align them with the perforation module where possible. Vogl’s catalogue treats panels, profiles, fixing materials, tools, system kits, frieze tape and access panels as parts of a complete system. A visually neat access hatch is easier to achieve when its size and position are fixed on the reflected ceiling plan.

Framing, loads and environmental conditions
The Au.diVoglFuge installation guide specifies 12.5 mm panels on suspended CD 60/27 primary and secondary profiles. Suspension-bracket centres vary with the framing configuration, so the installer should use the approved layout rather than a generic spacing rule. The same guide gives distributed-load limits of up to 0.15 or 0.30 kN/m², depending on that configuration.
| Assembly item | Published requirement or limit | Project action |
|---|---|---|
| Ceiling board | 12.5 mm Au.diBoard VoglFuge panel | Confirm the selected perforation, edge and substrate in the specification. |
| Suspension | CD 60/27 primary and secondary profiles | Use the manufacturer’s configuration-specific bracket layout. |
| Distributed load | Up to 0.15 or 0.30 kN/m², depending on framing configuration | Check the design load, including insulation and any permitted ceiling components. |
| Services | Independent support required | Suspend lights, ductwork, sprinklers and other services from the structure. |
| Mineral wool | Installed directly above the panels | Specify the thickness and acoustic classification required by the project. |
One Vogl installation document advises a minimum working temperature of +10°C and says the building site should not fall below +5°C. Keep these conditions through jointing and finishing; cold, damp or rapidly changing conditions can undermine the controlled drying on which a seamless finish depends.

How the VoglFuge installation sequence works
- Complete the suspended grid. Install and level the CD 60/27 primary and secondary profiles, verify the approved bracket arrangement and check that the grid can carry only the loads permitted by the system design.
- Install insulation and coordinate services. Place mineral wool directly above the panels where specified. Finish independent supports for lights, HVAC, sprinklers, speakers and other components before closing the ceiling.
- Fix the panels edge to edge. Set out the approved module, keep perforation lines aligned and drive panel screws so the heads sit slightly below the board surface without damaging the face.
- Complete openings and access panels. Form inspection openings, light recesses and other penetrations before joint finishing. Reinforce and support these details according to the approved system drawings.
- Install movement provisions. Form building movement and expansion joints where shown. The cited Vogl guidance advises an expansion joint after every 10 m or 100 m²; the stricter requirement should govern where conditions differ.
- Apply the proprietary joint system. Use the specified strip tape and liquid glue at panel joints. The process replaces compound filler; do not substitute a conventional filler treatment and expect the same joint performance.
- Prepare the surface. Use the system’s sanding pad, sandpaper, sponge and spatula to remove nibs and level filled screw heads without abrading perforation edges.
- Inspect before paint. Check joint lines, screw heads, perimeter details, access panels and pattern alignment under the lighting conditions the finished room will have.
Atkar’s contractor install kits include sandpaper, joint tape, liquid glue, panel screws, panel-head filler, a lambskin roller, sponge, spatula, knife and sanding pad. Kit coverage is offered for ceilings up to 15 m², 30 m² or 60 m². Kit contents do not replace the installer’s obligation to follow the approved manufacturer instructions.
Painting a perforated VoglFuge ceiling
Paint discipline determines whether the ceiling remains acoustically open and visually uniform. Atkar’s design guidance states that a faultless finish requires good installation practice, quality paint and the specified application method, with a minimum finished dry-film thickness of 75 microns.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Use a suitable sealer undercoat. Seal the raw board and jointed areas with a product approved for the selected substrate and final coating system.
- Choose a light, non-gloss finish. Light colours preserve the intended architectural appearance; gloss finishes highlight surface variation and are not recommended in the cited guidance.
- Roll with a short nap. Apply paint with a short-nap roller to control coverage around the perforations and avoid flooding the holes.
- Apply three coats in total. The Au.diBoard datasheet specifies one sealer undercoat followed by two top coats.
- Allow each coat to dry fully. Follow the paint manufacturer’s drying conditions and maintain the required site temperature before recoating.
- Do not spray. Spraying can clog perforations and the acoustic backing, reducing the open area that the design relies on.
The ceiling is generally supplied raw and painted on site unless a specified coloured product is ordered. Consequently, the final colour, sheen, dry-film thickness and acoustic behaviour depend on the approved paint system and workmanship, not just the board pattern.
Will a VoglFuge ceiling crack?
The patented strip-tape-and-glue joint is promoted by Vogl and Atkar as a high-crack-resistance method. It reduces reliance on compound filler at panel joints, but it cannot cancel building movement, poor framing, inadequate drying or incorrectly placed penetrations.

- Control movement: incorporate the project’s building and expansion joints, including the cited 10 m or 100 m² guidance.
- Keep the grid stable: level the suspension and avoid hanging services from the board assembly.
- Protect the board edges: keep panels aligned and undamaged during fixing and sanding.
- Respect temperature limits: maintain at least +10°C during work and do not work on a site below +5°C, as advised in the installation document.
- Inspect before coating: paint cannot hide an open joint or distorted perimeter detail without making later correction more difficult.
If a crack appears, first determine whether it follows a joint, a perimeter, a service opening or a building movement line. Do not simply fill and repaint; identify and correct the movement or support problem, then use the specified VoglFuge repair method for the affected detail.

Atkar publishes high acoustic performance, a Group 1 fire-rated option, GECA certification, fast installation and a 10-year warranty for its VoglFuge offering. These are supplier claims tied to the products and configurations covered by its documentation. They should not be generalized to every perforation, substrate, paint or jurisdiction.
Before approval, request the exact fire classification, acoustic test or calculation, environmental certificate and warranty terms for the proposed panel, backing, finish and suspension. Atkar notes that finishes and substrates can affect Group Ratings. Building-code requirements, fire services and warranty conditions may also differ by country and project type.
How VoglFuge compares with other ceiling systems
A fair comparison is about the complete assembly, not the visible panel alone. Use the following decision axes when evaluating a conventional plasterboard ceiling, a demountable acoustic tile or another perforated system.

Common failure points and practical checks
| Symptom | Likely control that was missed | Check or correction |
|---|---|---|
| Visible or uneven joint line | Panels were misaligned, the tape-and-glue process was not followed, or sanding was incomplete. | Inspect the joint before repainting; repair with the specified system materials. |
| Cracking near a perimeter or long run | Movement joint or stable perimeter detail was omitted. | Review the movement strategy and building movement before local patching. |
| Dark or blocked perforations | Paint was sprayed or applied too heavily. | Stop coating, assess whether holes and backing remain open, and follow the approved correction method. |
| Different sheen across panels | Inconsistent paint, drying or roller application. | Verify sealer, colour, roller type, dry conditions and the 75-micron minimum. |
| Sagging or displaced panels | Framing, suspension or service loads do not match the approved design. | Check CD 60/27 layout, bracket centres, load limits and independent service supports. |
| Access hatch looks out of pattern | Opening size and location were chosen after panel manufacture. | Coordinate access panels with the perforation module on shop drawings. |
Bottom line for designers and painters
Choose Au.diBoard VoglFuge when a project needs a continuous perforated gypsum ceiling rather than a visibly modular tile. Its strongest differentiator is the patented strip-tape-and-glue joint, but the promised seamless appearance depends on a coordinated CD 60/27 assembly, controlled movement, independent services, careful panel layout and disciplined three-coat painting. Select the perforation and finish from an approved sample, verify project-specific acoustic, fire and environmental documents, and appoint an installer who can follow the manufacturer’s joint and temperature requirements.
