- Identify the exact product. Record the full name, size, vessel and edition. A brand may make one range locally and source another range elsewhere.
- Ask about the finished candle. Use a direct question such as “Where is this candle poured, set, labelled and packed?” A country-of-origin statement about the company is not enough.
- Check the date. Manufacturing arrangements and stockists can change. Treat a 2022 article, cached listing or old gift guide as historical context.
- Separate components. Ask whether the wax, fragrance, wick and vessel are locally sourced, imported or mixed. The candle can be Australian-made even when some components are imported, but the maker should explain the claim clearly.
- Confirm availability and price at checkout. Record the current net weight, dimensions, shipping region, stock status and return policy. Do not reuse an old displayed price as a present-day comparison.

Elume has unusually specific public manufacturing context. An Australian Made Campaign profile published on 2 September 2022 describes the family-run company manufacturing candles in its Sydney factory, with the owners involved in production. Those are company claims about its candles and wax; they should not be expanded into claims that every ingredient is Australian, that the candles are non-toxic, or that they necessarily burn better than alternatives.
