Autex presents sustainability as a programme spanning climate action, circular manufacturing, responsible supply chains, healthier buildings and purpose-led business. Its reported milestones include raising recycled content in Cube acoustic panels from 60% to 80%, achieving company-stated carbon neutrality for global operations and its acoustic range in 2021, publishing externally verified product Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), and converting PET-fibre offcuts into pellets for new components. Some items on its roadmap—such as portfolio-wide recycled polyester, product disassembly and a global take-back scheme—are targets rather than completed results. Anyone specifying an Autex product should verify the current, market-specific technical sheet, EPD, declaration and certificate.
What Autex says its sustainability strategy covers
Autex’s official sustainability framework groups its work into five areas: climate action, closing material loops, sustainable supply chains, supporting well-being in buildings, and operating for both purpose and profit. The company also lists credentials including product EPDs, GreenRate Level A, Declare, Health Product Declarations, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard and ISO certifications. It says products can contribute information relevant to LEED, WELL, BREEAM and Green Star projects, but buying a product does not by itself guarantee a building rating. Credit eligibility depends on the project, applicable edition, documentation and calculation method.

What recycled content is in Cube acoustic panels?
Autex reports that recycled content in Cube increased from 60% to 80% after collaboration and testing with suppliers. This is a product claim for Cube, not a blanket percentage for all Autex products. The journey page’s search text does not establish one common calculation basis for every regional variant, thickness or market version.
For a specification, ask for the current Cube technical document for the country where the project is manufactured and installed. Confirm:

- the declared product model, colour and thickness;
- the manufacturing site and version date;
- whether pre-consumer, post-consumer or both sources are counted; and
- which declaration or certification supports the percentage.
Do not transfer Cube’s 80% figure to another panel, screen or accessory without product-specific evidence. The official product journey is at Autex Acoustics’ journey page.

How Autex says it closes the PET-fibre loop
Autex describes a process that turns manufacturing offcuts of recycled PET fibre into solid pellets. Those pellets can be used by manufacturers in injection-moulded applications instead of becoming waste. The company’s homepage identifies the material as RePet pellets and names SpinFix mounting clips, Frontier end caps and Vicinity workstation clamps as applications. Its circular-economy page gives the broader account of the process: Our Journey Towards a Circular Economy.
This is different from proving that a used acoustic panel can be recycled through ordinary municipal collection. A factory offcut is a controlled, known material stream; a panel removed from a building may contain dust, adhesives, fixings, coatings or mixed materials. The company’s separate “Closing the loop” explanation is available at Closing the loop. Before promising recycling at the end of a project, obtain written instructions covering removal, contamination, packaging, transport, acceptance criteria and the destination facility.
Are Autex acoustic panels recyclable?
There is no single yes-or-no answer for every panel, installation and country. Autex reports internal recycling of PET-fibre offcuts and has a stated goal of a globally available product take-back scheme by 2030. It also aims for all products to be designed for disassembly by 2030. Those statements indicate a direction of travel, not a current guarantee that every installed panel is accepted in a take-back or recycling programme today.

Recyclability depends on the exact product construction and what happens during removal. A panel that can be separated cleanly from its adhesive, backing, hardware and contaminants is more likely to have a viable material route than one that is permanently bonded to a substrate. Ask Autex or the regional distributor for a current end-of-life route for the specified product, and record that route in the project’s facilities or handover documents.
What Autex’s carbon-neutral claim means—and does not mean
Autex says it is carbon neutral across its operations and acoustic product range, with carbon-neutral products third-party verified by carbon experts at EKOS. Its company history places achievement of global operations and product-range neutrality in 2021. The company describes emissions as balanced through offsetting and publishes supporting standards and documents on its carbon-neutral page.
Carbon neutrality is not the same as zero embodied emissions. It may involve reducing emissions and compensating for a remaining balance through offsets. The claim also does not, on its own, prove a lower lifecycle impact than another manufacturer’s product. For a project decision, request the current declaration and check:

- which scopes and product stages are included;
- the quantity and type of offsets, and whether they are reported separately from reductions;
- the verifier, assurance level and standard used; and
- whether the claim applies to the exact product, colour, accessory and market version being purchased.
The available material does not establish Autex’s emissions-inventory totals, offset volumes or complete assurance boundary. Do not substitute a general website statement for those underlying documents.
What Autex’s EPDs cover
Autex says it publishes product-specific, externally verified Type III EPDs. These documents report quantified environmental impacts for a defined product, functional unit, manufacturing geography and lifecycle model. In 2024, Autex says it expanded its EPD scope to include A4 transport to site and A5 construction and installation. It describes whole-of-life coverage as an ongoing direction rather than a completed universal scope.
An EPD is not a sustainability certification and does not declare a product environmentally superior. Two EPDs can only be compared when their functional units, product-category rules, lifecycle modules, assumptions, electricity mixes, transport distances, manufacturing sites and geography align. Check whether the document covers production only (A1–A3), includes installation (A4–A5), or extends through use, replacement, demolition and disposal. Also check the EPD’s publication and expiry dates and the exact product reference.

For a fair comparison with another acoustic material, use the same acoustic function and compare:

Credentials and building-rating evidence
Autex lists EPDs, GreenRate Level A, Declare, Health Product Declarations, CDPH Standard compliance and ISO certifications among its credentials. The company also says its products meet criteria relevant to LEED, WELL, BREEAM and Green Star. Applicability is product- and market-specific: a certificate may cover one range, factory, formulation or edition and may expire.

For a project file, save the exact certificate or declaration, issuer, certificate number, covered product, manufacturing location and expiry date. Then match its requirements to the rating-system credit language used by the project’s assessor. A logo on a general webpage is not enough evidence for a credit submission.
How to specify Autex products responsibly
- Identify the exact product. Record the range, model, thickness, colour, accessories, adhesive or fixing system and country of manufacture.
- Request current documents. Obtain the product data sheet, EPD, recycled-content statement, health declaration, certificate and installation instructions.
- Check scope and dates. Confirm the declaration’s functional unit, lifecycle modules, geography, validity period and verifier.
- Separate reductions from offsets. Treat a carbon-neutral claim and an embodied-carbon result as different data points.
- Plan removal at design stage. Prefer reversible fixings where suitable, label components and keep a record of the proposed return or recycling route.
- Verify availability. Confirm that the documented product, colour and accessory are actually available in the project market and that lead times do not require an unassessed substitute.
- Archive evidence. Keep the versioned documents with the building’s handover information so facilities teams can act on the end-of-life instructions.
What the 2026–2040 roadmap should be used for
Autex’s roadmap combines completed launches with future objectives. SpinFix is reported as a 2024 launch made from 100% recycled PET, and Embrace is reported as the first bio-based product launched in April 2025. The same roadmap sets an objective of 80% recycled polyester across the portfolio by 2026, 100% design for disassembly and a globally available take-back scheme by 2030, a limit of 2% of total fibre throughput sent to landfill by 2030, and a waste-free ambition by 2040.
These targets are useful when assessing direction, procurement questions and future compatibility, but they are not proof that the full portfolio already meets them. For a contract or planning submission, phrase them as Autex’s stated goals and request progress evidence for the relevant reporting year.
Bottom line for architects and specifiers
Autex has documented a substantial sustainability programme: higher reported recycled content in Cube, PET-offcut pelletisation, product-specific verified EPDs, a company-stated 2021 carbon-neutral milestone and a roadmap extending to disassembly, take-back and waste reduction. The strongest evidence is always product-specific. Verify the current market version, calculation basis, EPD modules, certificate validity, carbon-neutral boundary and practical end-of-life route before treating any sustainability claim as a project requirement or rating-system credit.
