Beautiful Bathrooms by the AD100 is an inspiration gallery, not a renovation manual. Architectural Digest’s December 6, 2023 feature presents 13 bathrooms by 13 members of the 2024 AD100, ranging from roomy en suites to punchy powder rooms. The useful answer for anyone studying the gallery is to treat each image as a visual reference: identify the room type, surface language and focal fixture, then verify dimensions, products, costs and installation details independently.

The 13 bathrooms at a glance
The gallery credits one firm or designer on each slide. The table records only what the accessible captions identify; “not stated” means the gallery text supplies no further description.
| Slide | Firm or designer | Caption-supported setting or visual detail |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | S. R. Gambrel Inc. | Marble bathroom. |
| 2 | Jeremiah Brent Design | Los Angeles bath suite. |
| 3 | Schafer Buccellato Architects | Additional descriptive caption not stated. |
| 4 | Commune Design | Bathroom by the studio; further setting not stated. |
| 5 | Bryan O’Sullivan Studio | Marble hotel-suite bathroom with a tub and matching walls; products by Adam Barclay are noted, without item names. |
| 6 | Charles de Lisle | San Francisco bathroom with concrete details. |
| 7 | Sheila Bridges Design | Sunlit bathroom with a double vanity. |
| 8 | Flack Studio | Brown tiled bathroom. |
| 9 | Tiffany Brooks Interiors | Project in Libertyville, Illinois. |

| 11 | Rafael de Cárdenas Ltd. | Large bathroom centered on a standalone metal tub. |
| 12 | Elliott Barnes Interiors | Suite at Hotel de Montesquieu in Paris. |
| 13 | Hallworth Design | Beverly Hills powder room. |
The geographic references span Los Angeles, San Francisco, Libertyville, Paris and Beverly Hills. They identify project context, not a claim that the designers work only in those markets or that the rooms share a code, climate or construction standard.

What the gallery’s “AD100” frame means
“AD100” is the editorial frame for the 2024 cohort honored by Architectural Digest. The feature is dated December 6, 2023, so its wording describes that cohort rather than a continuously updated ranking. The 13-slide format gives each credited practice one place in the sequence; it is not a league table and does not score one bathroom against another.
The deck describes the collection as “roomy en suites and punchy powder rooms.” That language signals two different design problems. An en suite is generally experienced as part of a larger private sleeping area, while a powder room is a compact guest-facing space. The gallery does not publish plans or dimensions, so those terms should be read as editorial descriptions rather than measured room classifications.
How to compare the rooms without inventing facts
Start with the room’s job
Before saving a reference, label it as an en suite, a hotel or residential suite, a general bathroom, or a powder room when the caption allows. Ask what the image appears to prioritize: bathing, shared washing, guest impact or a single sculptural element. Do not infer the number of occupants, fixture clearances or storage capacity from a photograph.

Separate surfaces from objects
Record broad finish cues—such as marble, tile, concrete detail or wallpaper—in one column, and movable or installed focal elements—such as a double vanity or freestanding tub—in another. This prevents a dramatic wall treatment from being mistaken for a complete specification. The captions do not identify stone grades, tile sizes, grout, waterproofing systems, paper backing or tub dimensions.
Note light and composition as visual evidence
Descriptions such as “sunlit” tell you how the photographed scene reads, not the room’s year-round daylight level. A wide-angle photograph can make a bathroom feel larger, while styling and cropping can hide doors, plumbing chases and circulation. Use the image to study contrast, alignment and emphasis; use a measured survey for decisions.
Materials and focal moves visible in the set
The captions show a deliberately broad palette. Marble appears in more than one setting, including a bathroom and a hotel-suite scene where the walls match the tub surround. Concrete details, brown tile and patterned wallpaper demonstrate different ways to create identity without relying on a single neutral finish. The descriptions also call out a double vanity and a standalone metal tub as focal elements.

- Bates paint brushes come in a convenient 6 pieces with 3 flat and 3 angled bristle styles, including (1”, 1.5”, 2”) flat and (1.5”, 2”, 2.5”) angled bristles, perfect for tackling any surface painting or staining job.
- The sturdy natural bristles of each brush are designed to hold more paint, creating a smoother finish with fewer streaks and saving you time on the job.
- The lightweight wooden handles provide extra comfort and ease during long painting processes like walls, trims, cabinets, and doors.
- These versatile brushes are ready-to-use, easy to clean, and can be reused multiple times, making them economical as well as reliable tools for any painting project.
- Bates paint brushes can be used for both oil-based paints as well as latex stains and are ideal for home or commercial projects such as decks, fences or DIY painting jobs.
Those observations support visual comparisons only. They do not prove that one finish is more durable, easier to clean, safer when wet or cheaper to install. Marble may be honed or polished; “brown tile” does not reveal ceramic, porcelain, stone or surface treatment; “metal tub” does not reveal alloy, lining or weight. Any specification, maintenance schedule or structural requirement must come from the eventual manufacturer, contractor or project documentation.
Patterned wallpaper as a category reference
Geremia Design’s powder-room slide supports the search phrase patterned bathroom wallpaper. The gallery does not name the paper’s maker, pattern, substrate, width, moisture rating or installation method. Treat the image as a cue to investigate a category, not as proof of an exact product match. In a real project, confirm whether the chosen wallcovering is rated for the room’s humidity and whether ventilation and substrate preparation meet the installer’s requirements.

Freestanding metal tubs as a category reference
The Rafael de Cárdenas Ltd. image identifies a standalone metal tub in a large bathroom, but no model or manufacturer is supplied. A lookalike cannot be presented as the photographed tub. For a comparable project, verify tub footprint, filled weight, floor loading, waste location, faucet position, access for delivery and the finish’s care instructions before ordering.

A practical way to turn the images into a design brief
- Save the slide and caption together. Keep the credited practice, location and room description attached to the image so that visual inspiration is not separated from its provenance.
- Write one sentence about the desired effect. Examples include “quiet, continuous stone surfaces,” “a high-impact guest room,” or “a bathing area organized around one freestanding form.” Describe the effect rather than copying an unidentified item.
- Mark what is observed and what is unknown. Observed information can include a material family, a visible vanity arrangement or a wallpaper pattern. Unknowns include dimensions, plumbing routes, product names, prices and performance.
- Translate the effect into measurable questions. Ask a designer or contractor for a plan, elevations, reflected ceiling plan, lighting schedule, ventilation approach and finish schedule. Ask suppliers for technical sheets rather than relying on an image.
- Test the room type. A powder-room idea may depend on short visits and a strong first impression; an en-suite idea may need storage, everyday cleaning access and comfortable circulation. The gallery does not supply those operational details.
- Check local constraints. Confirm plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, ventilation, accessibility and permitting requirements for the project’s jurisdiction. A Paris hotel reference and a California residence may be subject to different rules.
What the captions establish about authorship and photography
Each slide names a credited design firm or designer, allowing readers to trace authorship across the 13 examples. The gallery also displays photography credits including Eric Piasecki, Trevor Tondro, Stephen Kent Johnson, James McDonald, Eric Petschek, Frank Frances, Anson Smart, Alex Sattler, Laure Joliet, Adrian Gaut, Elodie Dupuis and Jesse Stone. The accessible text does not provide a reliable slide-by-slide mapping for every photographer, so those names should not be assigned to a particular room without checking the live credit line.
The Bryan O’Sullivan Studio slide notes products by Adam Barclay, but it does not specify which products. That credit is not a complete shopping list, and the gallery’s general affiliate disclosure does not establish that any pictured item is linked, available or commissionable.
What is missing—and why that matters
No slide text supplies floor area, ceiling height, fixture dimensions, material quantities, installation sequence, labor rates, project budget, completion date, accessibility information or cleaning instructions. There is also no item-level purchasing data for the wallpaper, tub, vanity, marble or tile. Consequently, the gallery cannot support a cost comparison, a durability ranking, a maintenance recommendation or a claim that one layout complies with a particular standard.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This boundary is useful rather than limiting. It tells you exactly what the feature can do well: provide a curated set of visual precedents and show how established practices handle contrast, pattern, surface continuity and focal fixtures. It cannot replace a measured survey, specifications, samples, mock-ups or professional advice.
Questions to ask before copying a look
- Is the reference a powder room, an en suite, a hotel suite or an unspecified bathroom, and does my project have the same use?
- Which part of the image creates the impact: the wall finish, the lighting, the fixture silhouette, the color relationship or the composition?
- Can the proposed material tolerate the room’s water exposure, humidity and cleaning products?
- Where will plumbing, ventilation, electrical equipment, storage and access routes go once the photograph’s styling is removed?
- What exact product, finish and installation details are documented, and which are still assumptions?
Bottom line for using “13 Beautiful Bathrooms by the AD100”
The feature is best used as a 13-example visual index of 2024 AD100 work. Its strongest comparisons are room type, geographic context, surface character and focal element. Use the credited images to define a direction, then move to drawings, samples and technical documentation before treating any idea as buildable. Keeping that distinction intact lets the gallery inspire a bathroom without pretending that a caption is a specification.
