Beautiful Christmas home tours are most useful when they show choices rather than prescribe one perfect look. The 2021 Style Showcase associated with Fox Hollow Cottage gathered several distinct features—a Christmas home tour, foyer and kitchen, tablescape, flocked tree, and the cottage’s own tour—so readers could compare palettes, room arrangements, and ways to decorate with what they already own.
The ideas below use that showcase and Shannon Fox’s November 2021 Pink Cottage tour as practical inspiration. Treat the prices and product references as historical examples, not current shopping information.

What this Christmas home-tour showcase actually offers
The phrase “Beautiful Christmas Home Tours | Style Showcase” is best treated as an inspiration format, not the confirmed title of one standalone 2021 page. Fox Hollow Cottage’s archive identifies “Style Showcase 111 | Beautiful Christmas Decorating Ideas,” published December 7, 2021. That entry linked readers to several seasonal decorating features from different homes and viewpoints.
That variety is the point. One room may lean colorful and layered, another traditional and red-and-white, another focused on a flocked tree or a carefully arranged table. Instead of copying one complete room, compare the decisions behind each look:
#1 Best Overall

- Palette: Do you want small color accents over neutrals and metallics, or a stronger traditional contrast?
- Reuse: Which bowls, trays, lanterns, mirrors, ribbons, and ornaments can become holiday decor?
- Scale: Is the tree the main focal point, or does the arrangement use several smaller objects to create a broader display?
- New purchases: Can a few targeted additions finish the room, rather than replacing everything?
No feature in the showcase establishes that one style is superior. The useful result is a menu of approaches you can adapt to your home, budget, and existing furnishings.
Two decorating directions to compare
| Decision | Color-accented neutral look | Traditional red-and-white or flocked look |
|---|---|---|
| Palette | Neutral pieces layered with small amounts of pink, silver, and gold | High-contrast red and white, often supported by a flocked tree |
| Reuse of existing decor | Especially suited to metallics, glass, neutral vessels, and plain wood pieces | Works with existing red ornaments, white textiles, greenery, and classic tableware |
| Tree treatment | Soft pink ribbon and restrained ornaments can change the mood of a flocked tree | Red-and-white ornaments and fuller traditional accessories make the tree the visual anchor |
| Amount of new decor | Usually a few accent-color additions are enough to shift the room | May require a coordinated set of red, white, or snowy elements if your current pieces are unrelated |
| Best starting point | A neutral room with silver, gold, or pale furnishings already in place | A room that already has classic red accents or a clearly traditional holiday foundation |
The comparison is a planning tool, not a performance claim. The source pages are lifestyle tours, so they do not measure which approach costs less, fills a room better, or lasts longer.
Start with what you own
In the Pink Cottage Christmas tour published November 29, 2021, Shannon Fox describes using existing decor as her base and adding pink in small amounts. She layered that color with silver, gold, and neutrals rather than replacing the room’s established pieces. This method is practical when your everyday furnishings already have a calm palette.
Make a three-pile inventory
- Keep in place: Identify everyday pieces that already support the holiday colors—metallic objects, neutral ceramics, glass, wood, mirrors, and trays.
- Move for the season: Set aside items that can be repurposed in a display, such as a bowl for ornaments or a lantern for a candle and greenery.
- Add sparingly: Choose only the missing element: perhaps a ribbon color, a few ornaments, faux snow, or warm white battery-operated fairy lights.
Fox’s examples include repainting wooden trees and a metal tray, then using them as seasonal accents. Repainting an object is a way to coordinate mismatched finishes without buying a new collection; choose a finish that relates to the room’s existing metals or textiles.
Repurpose ordinary containers
Everyday bowls, trays, glass vessels, and lanterns can become holiday displays when filled or wrapped with seasonal materials. Try one defined use per container:

- Place greenery and ribbon in a glass vessel so the container remains visible.
- Use a lantern for a candle or fairy lights, leaving enough open space for the light to read from across the room.
These are styling ideas shown in the tour, not safety-tested instructions. Keep candles on stable, heat-resistant surfaces and follow the lighting manufacturer’s directions.
How to add color without losing a neutral room
A neutral Christmas scheme can look unfinished if every accent is equally pale. Fox’s approach is more controlled: introduce one color in small, repeated moments, then connect it to metallics and neutrals already present.
Use repetition, not saturation
- Choose one accent color, such as soft pink.
- Place it in at least three locations—a tree ribbon, a tabletop object, and a cushion or small textile—so it feels intentional.
- Repeat one supporting finish, such as silver or gold, to connect the accent to existing decor.
- Leave substantial neutral areas visible; the contrast makes the colored pieces noticeable.
Fox describes soft pink ribbon on a flocked tree, along with pink accents against silver, gold, and neutral pieces. Because the color appears in small quantities, the room can remain calm while still looking distinctly seasonal.
Coordinate with the room’s fixed surfaces
Before choosing a ribbon or ornament color, look at the permanent backdrop: wall color, flooring, cabinetry, and large upholstery. You do not need to repaint a room for Christmas, but you can avoid a jarring combination by selecting an accent that already relates to one of those surfaces. If the room is visually busy, keep the holiday additions to one color family and let texture provide variety.

Tree ideas for small and mid-size spaces
A modest tree does not have to carry the entire visual weight of a room. The Pink Cottage tour suggests clustering smaller trees or adding another substantial object around the base to increase the display’s footprint. This is a composition choice, not a measured guarantee that a tree will look fuller in every room.

Build a grouped tree display
- Place the main tree where it can be seen from the room’s primary entry point.
- Add one or two smaller tabletop Christmas trees at different heights nearby.
- Balance the group with a substantial object—such as a painted wooden tree, a basket, or a decorated box—rather than several tiny accessories.
- Keep a clear path around the arrangement and check that branches, cords, and bases do not create a trip hazard.
Varying height gives the eye a wider shape to read. Keep the finishes related: a flocked main tree can work with snowy or pale smaller trees, while a traditional tree may need repeated red, white, or wood details to keep the group coherent.
Use ribbon as a high-impact change
Ribbon can alter a tree’s character without requiring a complete ornament replacement. Fox describes using soft pink ribbon on a flocked tree. To adapt that idea, select ribbon wide enough to remain visible between branches, then repeat its color elsewhere in the room. Avoid adding several unrelated ribbon patterns; one dominant ribbon and a simpler secondary texture are easier to control.
Make the base part of the composition
Do not leave a small tree isolated on an empty floor. A low basket, wrapped boxes, a lantern, or a cluster of smaller trees can visually anchor it. The accessory should be substantial enough to balance the tree, while leaving ventilation and access around electrical connections.

Use mirrors and light to extend the display
Fox says a mirror behind a tree can bounce tree lights around the room and describes using an affordable framed mirror in her own home. The tour mentions that mirror as an under-$50 purchase in 2021; that historical amount is not a current price benchmark.
Place a mirror safely
- Choose a mirror that is wider than the brightest section of the tree but does not block a walkway.
- Secure it according to the frame manufacturer’s hanging instructions; do not lean a heavy mirror where it can topple.
- Position the tree so the reflection catches lights rather than a cluttered corner.
- View the arrangement from seated and standing positions. A reflection that looks balanced from one angle may reveal cords or bare branches from another.
Warm white battery-operated fairy lights can add a soft glow to a wooden box, lantern, or glass vessel. Use battery lights where a cord would be awkward, and follow the product’s instructions for battery type, heat clearance, and indoor use.

Small displays inspired by the Pink Cottage tour
Fox’s tour includes several examples of turning existing objects into seasonal focal points. Each can be adapted without reproducing the entire room.
A decorated wooden box
One example uses a wooden box dressed with foil, ornaments, and fairy lights. The box supplies height and a defined boundary, while reflective foil and lights add sparkle. Choose a box that is stable, keep the light set contained, and avoid covering ventilation openings or placing heat-producing lights against paper or fabric.
Painted wood and metal accents
Repainted wooden trees and a metal tray provide a coordinated foundation for small ornaments, faux snow, candles, or greenery. Group painted pieces in odd numbers only if that arrangement suits the available surface; the source presents repainting as a personal styling choice, not a universal rule.
Bowls, trays, and glass vessels
Use one vessel for one visual story: ornaments in a bowl, greenery in glass, or a candle-and-snow arrangement on a tray. Leaving some of the container visible prevents the display from becoming a shapeless pile and lets the original object remain part of the room.
Room-by-room tour planning
Foyer
Use the entry to establish the palette with one compact arrangement: a mirror, a small tree, and a tray or bowl. Keep the floor clear for coats, shoes, and guests. A repeated ribbon color can connect the foyer to the main tree without duplicating every ornament.

Decorate surfaces that can be cleared for food preparation. A glass vessel with greenery, a small tabletop tree, or a narrow tray is easier to move than a crowded counter display. Keep decorations away from burners, heat vents, and food-contact areas.
Dining area
The showcase includes a tablescape, so treat the table as its own composition rather than an extension of the tree. Select a central height that preserves sightlines, then echo the tree’s ribbon or accent color in napkins, glassware, or a small ornament grouping.
How much new decor do you really need?
Use a gap list before shopping. Write down the single missing function—tree topper, ribbon, light, height, or color—and buy only that category. The tour’s reuse-first method works because existing pieces supply most of the structure.
- Need color: Add ribbon or a small number of ornaments in one accent shade.
- Need height: Add a tabletop tree, painted wooden tree, or stable box.
- Need sparkle: Add fairy lights or reflective foil to an existing container.
- Need softness: Add a textile or ribbon that relates to the room’s upholstery.
- Need a focal point: Reposition the tree, add a mirror, or group substantial objects at its base.

Christmas tree ornaments, small tabletop Christmas trees, warm white battery-operated fairy lights, and Christmas tree ribbon all fit the specific styling uses described in the tours. A product link should sit beside the exact use it supports—for example, ribbon for a flocked tree or lights for a decorated box—rather than appear as a generic holiday list.
The Pink Cottage post states that its clickable shopping links may include affiliate links and directs readers to Amazon favorites and named throws. That disclosure applies to that page. It does not establish current inventory, prices, commissions, or affiliate-program terms. Much of the decor shown is reused, vintage, or from a prior year, so pictured items may not be available new.
A practical styling sequence
- Photograph the room before decorating. Note the main sightline, empty vertical space, and surfaces that must remain functional.
- Select one direction. Decide between a restrained accent color over neutrals and metallics or a stronger red-and-white traditional foundation.
- Gather existing pieces. Pull out bowls, trays, vessels, lanterns, mirrors, ribbon, and ornaments that already relate to the room.
- Place the main tree or focal object. Check it from the doorway and from the seating area.
- Add height and reflection. Use smaller trees, a substantial base object, or a safely secured mirror where the composition needs more presence.
- Add lights and ribbon. Keep cords controlled, follow product instructions, and repeat the chosen accent color in at least two additional locations.
- Edit the display. Remove pieces that introduce an unrelated color, block a path, or make a functional surface difficult to use.
The result should look connected from room to room without making every space identical. The showcase works as a collection precisely because each home makes different decisions about color, scale, and reuse.
