The October 7, 2025 update “A Few Little Bedroom Details” is a progress report, not a finished-room reveal. Kristi Linauer is still repairing a wavy wall and completing trim, while several decorative choices are taking shape: teal patterned velvet for a foyer bench, orange-coral trim for teal drapery panels, and a plan to move a wedding-day chapel watercolor above the bench. Lamps, bedding, the dresser finish and installation of the foyer light were still unresolved in the post. You can read the original update on Addicted 2 Decorating.

What the October 2025 update actually covers
This is a small, project-specific note about a master-bedroom suite and foyer. It does not present a complete decorating plan, a before-and-after photograph, or a general bedroom-design method. Linauer’s own description is appropriately modest: “I don’t have a big bedroom update today. I’m still trying to repair that wavy wall and get the rest of the trim finished.”

The color story: teal, pink and orange
The clearest design intention is color connection across adjoining areas. Linauer chose teal velvet for the bench because she wanted it to relate to pink in the closet and orange in the bedroom. The proposed palette therefore crosses surfaces and rooms rather than assigning one isolated accent to each space.
Teal as the bridge
The bench fabric gives the foyer a strong teal element near the bedroom entrance. Because the fabric is patterned velvet, it contributes both color and visual texture. The source does not identify the pattern, fiber blend, or performance rating, so those details should not be assumed.
Orange and coral at the window
The drapery trim is described as orange/coral. That distinction is useful when choosing paint: orange and coral can read differently under warm bulbs, daylight and the blue cast that often appears in shadow. Before committing to a wall color, compare a trim sample with the actual headboard and curtain fabric in the room at different times of day.

Pink in the closet
Pink is part of the intended connection, but the post does not specify its exact paint color, finish or location beyond the closet reference. Treat it as a relationship to preserve, not as a documented paint specification.

The drapery-trim numbers, with the correct qualification
Linauer reported finding orange/coral trim from Luxe Fabric Co. at $7.85 per yard. The trim is 3.5 inches wide, and her project required 18 yards. These are figures for her project as reported in 2025, not a current market price or a recommendation for how much trim another room needs.

The $141.30 figure is arithmetic based on the reported numbers, not a quoted invoice total. A different project may need more or less trim because of panel length, pattern matching, hems, returns, corners and cutting waste. Measure each panel and confirm the supplier’s current stock, width and price before ordering.
How a painter should coordinate this palette
The update is useful to painters because fabric decisions often come before the final wall color. Paint should support the fixed materials, not force them to change after installation.

1. Identify the least-flexible surfaces first
Record the colors of the headboard fabric, drapery fabric and trim, bench velvet, flooring and any artwork that will remain. Upholstery and custom trim are usually more expensive or difficult to replace than a sample pot of paint, so they should anchor the comparison.

2. Compare paint samples beside—not across—the fabrics
Place large painted boards next to the actual textiles. A small chip held across the room can hide undertones; a board shows how the wall color behaves beside teal, pink and orange/coral. Check the boards in morning daylight, afternoon light and the room’s planned evening lighting.
3. Keep sheen decisions separate from color decisions
A color can appear lighter, darker or more reflective when its sheen changes. Decide the practical sheen for each surface after you have judged the color: walls, trim and furniture may need different products because they receive different wear and require different levels of cleanability. The source does not state which products or sheens Linauer selected.
4. Recheck the palette after the wall is repaired
A wavy wall creates changing highlights and shadows. Even a well-chosen color can look uneven when the surface is not flat. Make the wall repair and final sanding part of the color process; judge the paint only after the surface is ready for primer and finish coats.

Linauer says the wall repair was still underway. The post does not explain the cause or prescribe a method, so the appropriate repair depends on whether the waviness comes from framing, old plaster, drywall joints, moisture damage or a surface coating.

Basic preparation sequence
- Diagnose the movement. Use a straightedge and inspect seams, corners and fasteners. Look for cracks, soft areas or signs of moisture rather than covering an active problem.
- Remove loose material. Scrape peeling paint or weak compound and clean dust from the repair area.
- Correct the low and high spots. Use a compatible patching or joint-compound system in thin layers. Feather each edge beyond the visible defect instead of creating a sharp ridge.
- Sand and inspect under raking light. Light held at a low angle reveals remaining waves that ordinary room lighting can hide.
- Prime the repaired surface. Primer equalizes absorption and helps prevent the patch from flashing through the finish coat.
- Paint only after the surface is stable. If the wall continues to move, cracks may return regardless of the topcoat.
Those are general preparation principles, not a description of the exact work performed in Linauer’s room. For extensive movement, recurring cracks or suspected moisture, a qualified drywall or building professional should identify the underlying cause.

Linauer had not decided what color to paint the blue dresser, or whether to strip it and see what wood was underneath. Each route changes the balance of the room.
Repainting the dresser
Repainting keeps the dresser’s color intentional and can connect it to the teal, pink or orange/coral scheme without requiring the underlying wood to be attractive. The finish requires sound preparation: cleaning, dulling or sanding as appropriate, repairs, a bonding primer compatible with the existing coating, and a durable furniture topcoat. Test adhesion in an inconspicuous area before committing.

Stripping is an investigative step as much as a refinishing choice. The final result cannot be known until old coatings are removed and the wood is inspected for veneer, stains, repairs and uneven color. Use the product manufacturer’s safety instructions, provide ventilation and dispose of chemical waste according to local rules.

Choosing a natural-wood finish
If the exposed wood is suitable, a clear or lightly tinted finish could make the dresser a quieter element beside colorful textiles. That is a design possibility, not a decision reported in the update. Samples on a drawer front or hidden area are essential because finish can deepen the apparent wood color.
Lighting, bedding and artwork still had to be resolved
Bedside lamps
The post says Linauer still needed lamps for the bedside tables. Lamp color temperature and shade material will affect how teal, pink and coral appear at night. Choose the lamp after checking the headboard height, table scale, outlet position and the amount of reading light required; do not treat a decorative lamp as automatically adequate task lighting.
Bedding
Bedding was also pending and needed to coordinate with the headboard fabric. Because the headboard is a large, fixed textile, bring fabric samples or photographs into the bedding comparison. If the headboard pattern is busy, quieter bedding may preserve hierarchy; if it is restrained, bedding can carry more pattern. The update does not name a bedding color or pattern.
Artwork above the bench
Linauer planned to move the wedding-day chapel watercolor from the main wall to the wall above the bench. Before hanging it, check the bench’s seated height, the picture’s visual weight and the sightline from the bedroom doors. The proposed move is a plan; the post does not confirm that it had already happened.
Foyer light
The foyer light had been delivered, but installation was still anticipated. It should therefore be listed as received, not completed, in any project schedule or room description.
A practical order of operations for a similar project
- Finish diagnosing and repairing the wavy wall.
- Complete trim repairs, sanding and caulking before final paint.
- Place large color boards beside the headboard, drapery trim and bench fabric.
- Confirm the drapery-trim measurement and current supplier availability before ordering.
- Prime and paint the repaired walls and trim.
- Decide whether the dresser will be repainted, stripped or finished as wood, then complete the appropriate preparation.
- Install the foyer light and evaluate the room under its actual evening illumination.
- Select bedside lamps and bedding after the major colors and lighting conditions are fixed.
- Move and hang the watercolor above the bench only after the bench position is established.
- Add pillows or other small accents last, treating them as adjustable links among the larger colors.
What remains unknown
The October 7, 2025 post does not establish the final wall paint color, the exact pink or orange paint colors, the bench’s completed upholstery, the pillow selection, the bedding, the lamps, the dresser’s final finish, the installation date of the foyer light or the completion date of the wall repair. It also provides no independent comparison of competing trims, no performance test and no current price verification.
That limited scope is the point of the update: it records decisions in motion. The useful lesson for a painting project is to separate fixed materials from open choices, repair surfaces before judging color, and keep every price and quantity tied to the specific project and date that produced it.
