The bedroom-suite update has two visible changes: Kristi Linauer reports that most of the drapery hemming and rehanging is complete, and she added five 12-inch sunburst mirrors above the headboard. The curtains were tailored around exceptionally uneven floors, while the mirrors supplied the restrained gold sparkle she felt the wall needed. This is a personal progress report published February 4, 2026—not a product review or a universal installation guide.
What changed in the bedroom
Linauer’s update centers on finishing work rather than a full room makeover. She had spent two days hemming the draperies and had one panel left to finish. Three panels were hemmed, and two of those had been rehung with their returns attached to the wall. She describes the completed panels as having the clean, tailored appearance she wanted.

The second change is on the headboard wall. Linauer felt that “Something is missing,” but did not want a colorful or visually dominant addition. Because the floors in this room were described as the most uneven in the house, Linauer pinned each hem while the panel was hanging. She says this was a new approach for her and that she initially doubted it would work. Her account establishes what she tried in this room; it does not establish that the technique is suitable for every curtain, fabric, floor, or installation.
Why the floor condition changed the workflow
A level floor is not the only reference point in a finished room. When a floor rises or falls across the width of a window or doorway, a single measurement taken on a worktable may not produce a visually even lower edge once the fabric is installed. Linauer’s solution was to place each panel in its hanging position first, then pin the hem in that position.
That explanation is useful as project context, not as a substitute for professional fabrication instructions. The source does not identify the fabric, lining, heading style, hardware, hem depth, or tools used. It also does not report a measurement method, tolerance, or test proving that the process works generally. What “a clean, tailored look” means in this update
Linauer writes, “I love a clean, tailored look.” In this project, that phrase refers to the appearance of the finished hanging panels after hemming, not to a named construction standard. The visible objective was a controlled lower edge that looked intentional in the room despite the uneven floor.
For a painting-focused reader, the useful lesson is about how adjacent finishes are judged together. Wall color, trim, floor lines, window treatments, and furniture all meet at edges. A drapery hem that follows the room’s visual conditions can change how straight or irregular those surrounding lines appear. - Relationship to the bed: The source places the group above the headboard. Its success depends on how the shape, number, and overall spread relate to the headboard and bedding already in the room.
The author’s preference was for an understated accent with no added color. That preference can guide a decision, but it is not a tested decorating formula. A colorful artwork, one large mirror, or no wall object at all could produce a different result in another room.

- Paint the television cord cover and outlet covers. These small components were still visible unfinished details in the suite.
- Trim out the attic access. The opening remained to be finished as part of the room’s surrounding carpentry and trim work.
After those jobs, she planned a final cleaning and a tour of the bedroom suite. She also noted that the couple were already using the room, which made it harder to find time to photograph an unfinished project. That explains why a progress post can show work in transition rather than a fully documented before-and-after sequence.

A practical planning checklist for a similar project
You can use the update’s sequence to organize your own room without treating its choices as mandatory.
- Record the room’s constraints first. Note uneven flooring, door locations, headboard width, existing trim, and any covers or access panels that will remain visible.
