For a compact Fujifilm X-mount camera with a classic-normal view, the Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 R WR is the best all-round fit: it is 23mm long, weighs about 84g, and gives a 41mm-equivalent field of view. Choose the equally flat XF23mmF2.8 R WR instead if you want a wider 35mm-equivalent view. The older XF18mmF2 R is wider and faster, but it is larger and its current availability needs checking.
Which Fuji X pancake lens should you buy?
For the best pancake lens for Fujifilm X, decide first whether you prefer a classic-normal or wider view. The XF27mmF2.8 R WR suits a compact walkaround setup with a 41mm-equivalent view; the XF23mmF2.8 R WR is the wider choice at 35mm equivalent. Both are 23mm long, have f/2.8 maximum apertures, and carry Fujifilm’s WR designation.

Dimensions and weights are manufacturer specifications. Fujifilm’s US shop lists the XF27mmF2.8 R WR at 87g; its specifications page gives approximately 84g excluding caps and hood, so the table uses the latter convention. Fujifilm’s UK guide gives the XF23mmF2.8 R WR a 20cm minimum focus distance, measured from the focal plane, and notes a supplied hood and hood cap.

Best all-round fit for a classic-normal view: XF27mmF2.8 R WR
The Fujinon XF27mmF2.8 R WR is the straightforward pick if a flat lens and a slightly tighter, normal-ish view matter most. Its 27mm focal length gives a 41mm-equivalent angle of view, while the 23mm length and 84g approximate specification weight keep the profile compact. It has a 39mm filter thread and Fujifilm describes its construction as weather-resistant.
Fujifilm North America announced it at a historical launch MSRP of $399.95 USD in 2021; that is not a current price. Check your local retailer for current price and stock.

Best wider pancake: XF23mmF2.8 R WR
Choose the Fujinon XF23mmF2.8 R WR when you want more of the scene in frame than the 27mm provides. Its 23mm focal length gives a 35mm-equivalent view, and it shares the 23mm length and f/2.8 maximum aperture of the XF27. At 90g, it is 6g heavier by Fujifilm’s approximate product specifications.
The minimum focus distance is 20cm from the focal plane. Fujifilm lists a hood and hood cap among the supplied accessories. As with the XF27, compare local pricing and availability before buying.

Is the XF18mmF2 R still worth considering?
The Fujinon XF18mmF2 R is the wider, faster legacy option: its f/2 maximum aperture is one stop faster than f/2.8, and its 18mm focal length gives a 27mm-equivalent view. The tradeoff is a less-flat 33.7mm length and 116g approximate weight. It uses a 52mm filter.
Availability and condition matter with this older model. Fujifilm’s US shop listing showed a notification option rather than an ordinary purchase path, so check current local stock and whether a used copy’s condition suits you.

Do not confuse the two XF23mm lenses
The XF23mmF2.8 R WR is the compact pancake. The older XF23mmF2 R WR has the same 23mm focal length and 35mm-equivalent view, but its f/2 aperture, 51.9mm length, 180g weight, and 43mm filter thread make it a distinctly larger lens. Check the “F2.8” marking in the model name if you specifically want the pancake.
What to compare before choosing
- Framing: 27mm for 41mm-equivalent, 23mm for 35mm-equivalent, or 18mm for 27mm-equivalent.
- Size and weight: compare stated dimensions and weights using the same convention; the XF27 specification weight excludes caps and hood.
- Aperture: the XF18 opens to f/2; the two flatter WR choices open to f/2.8.
- Practical details: check filter diameter, included accessories, local price, availability, and the weather-resistance information for the exact model.
The manufacturer specifications establish these differences, but the cited material does not establish controlled head-to-head sharpness, autofocus speed, or an overall image-quality winner. Choose by view, size, and aperture rather than assuming a tested optical ranking.
