For opaque, bright-looking artwork, choose an acrylic paint marker whose tip and surface compatibility fit the project—not just the marker with the biggest advertised color range. Uni POSCA PC-3M is a documented fine-tip option for detail; MOLOTOW ONE4ALL is a refillable alternative. Neither has been established as a universal winner in independent head-to-head tests, so the best choice depends on the finish, surface, permanence, and refill preferences you need.

What to compare before buying
Tip width and shape
Match the nib to the marks you need. A narrow tip is easier to control for fine outlines and small lettering; broader tips cover more area but are less suited to minute details. PC-3M’s specified 0.9–1.3 mm fine tip makes it a documented option for detail. For ONE4ALL, check the current packaging: MOLOTOW says its 2026 transition will update some model configurations, including replacing the old 1.5 mm tip with a 1 mm tip.
Opacity and finish
“Water-based” tells you about the paint’s base, not whether it dries matte or glossy, or how opaque it is. Uni POSCA describes its paint as bright, matte, and opaque, and says it is layerable and mixable. MOLOTOW USA describes ONE4ALL as semi-gloss and highly opaque. If the surface color must not show through, look for an opacity claim for the exact marker and make a test mark on a sample.

Surface and permanence
Do not treat “permanent” as a promise that a mark will resist every condition on every material. Uni POSCA qualifies PC-3M’s behavior: permanent on porous surfaces, erasable on most smooth non-porous materials. MOLOTOW USA describes ONE4ALL as permanent and suitable for most surfaces, but advises checking compatibility; it also says poor preparation, an unclean surface, or frequent use can reduce paint quality and color vibrancy. Test the marker on the actual material and its preparation before committing to finished work.
Palette, refills, and replacement tips
Uni POSCA lists 42 colors for PC-3M and 66 across its full range, which includes metallic, fluorescent, and glitter colors. Those range-wide finishes should not be assumed to come in every model. MOLOTOW lists 74 shades for ONE4ALL and describes the system as refillable with replaceable tips. MOLOTOW USA says a marker can be refilled at least 50 times; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independent durability result. Check whether the shades and nibs you want are available for the specific marker size you plan to use.

Choosing between POSCA PC-3M and ONE4ALL
Choose POSCA PC-3M for documented fine-tip work
PC-3M is the more clearly specified choice here for fine marks: Uni POSCA gives its tip width as 0.9–1.3 mm and lists 42 colors for the model. The maker describes the paint as water-soluble, layerable, and mixable, and says shaking with the cap on mixes the paint using an internal mixing ball. That description may suit artists who want to build or blend color, but the surface still determines whether a mark can be removed or is permanent under the maker’s stated conditions.
Choose ONE4ALL if refillability is a priority
ONE4ALL is the documented alternative for someone who wants a refillable acrylic marker system with replaceable tips. Its range-wide shade count is 74, and MOLOTOW describes it as highly opaque and UV resistant. UV resistance is not evidence of a particular archival lifespan, however. For work intended for long-term display, follow the manufacturer’s surface compatibility guidance and consider a protective finish only where appropriate; Uni POSCA notes that a fixative varnish can protect creations. Test the complete finish on a sample, since a varnish may change the appearance or behavior of the surface.

Do not confuse paint markers with watercolor-style markers
MOLOTOW AQUA COLOR BRUSH is a different tool: MOLOTOW presents it as a transparent, water-soluble, water-based ink marker for coloring, sketching, and hand lettering. That watercolor-style transparency is not the same as the solid coverage sought from an opaque acrylic paint marker. If you want bright blocks of color that cover what is underneath, check that the product is an opaque paint marker rather than a transparent brush marker.

- Decide whether you want a matte or semi-gloss finish and how opaque the mark needs to be.
