Cosmofin Sheet Membrane was specified to waterproof the new landscaped areas and walkways at Blacktown Village Green, built over existing retail shops. Projex Group’s project case study says Suters Architects selected the membrane because the system needed to be long-lasting, low-maintenance and certified root-proof for landscaped use, described in the case study as FLL tested. The same case study names Wolfin Membranes in Germany as manufacturer, Projex as distributor and Galdar Waterproofing as installer.
Those details come from Projex’s case-study account, not from an independently published project record. It does not provide the installation date, membrane quantity, construction build-up, certificate number or post-completion performance results.

What was waterproofed at Blacktown Village Green?
Blacktown Village Green was upgraded with new common-area walkways and garden areas above existing retail shops. Why Cosmofin was selected
Projex quotes the project requirement this way: “The membrane had to be long lasting, low maintenance & certified root-proof (FLL Tested) for use in landscaped areas.” That sentence explains the selection criteria rather than proving a measured outcome at Blacktown Village Green.
Long service life
A membrane beneath a public garden is difficult and expensive to replace. Planting media, drainage components, paving and finishes may all have to be removed before a leak can be repaired. The case study therefore presents long life as a design requirement. It does not state a service-life figure for Cosmofin, provide an accelerated-ageing result or report how the Blacktown installation has performed over time.

The excerpt does not say how often the landscaped areas should be inspected, which access points were provided, or what repair procedure applies if a leak is found. Those instructions should come from the project’s membrane specification, installer handover documents and the manufacturer’s current technical literature.
Root-proof performance and FLL testing
Roots can threaten a waterproofing layer in a planted assembly, so the case study says the selected system needed certified root-proof performance and describes it as FLL tested. “FLL Tested” is the wording reported by Projex; the excerpt does not identify the exact FLL standard, test date, certificate number, product variant or test scope. Anyone relying on root-resistance evidence should obtain the actual certificate or laboratory report and confirm that it covers the membrane, seams and the intended planting system.
What the membrane’s job is in this setting
At a conceptual level, the sheet membrane forms the waterproofing layer between the structure below and the landscaped build-up above. Its purpose is to keep water associated with soil and planting out of the slab, roof or podium construction that shelters the retail tenancies. It also needs to remain continuous around changes in level, planter edges, drainage points and transitions to walkways.

That description explains the function, not the Blacktown construction detail. Projex does not publish the substrate, primer, protection board, drainage layer, filter fabric, growing medium, paving build-up, falls, outlets or termination method. It also does not state whether every joint was welded, bonded or treated with another approved detail. Those decisions are critical to performance and must be read from the project drawings and product installation instructions rather than inferred from the product name.

Confirm the exact Cosmofin product designation, thickness, sheet dimensions, compatible substrates, approved adhesives or weld settings, storage limits and exposure restrictions. For a specification, translate those broad claims into documents: request the relevant recycling route, environmental declaration or assessment, and the manufacturer’s allowable exposure period before the membrane is covered. UV stability during temporary exposure is not the same as proving long-term performance after installation, especially where the membrane is buried beneath soil or paving.

Landscaping and paving work can damage a waterproofing layer after the waterproofing trade has left.
