Blender 4.5.1: What Changed and Should You Install It?

Blender’s official history lists no changelog for 4.5.1, so its specific changes cannot be confirmed. As of October 7, 2026, use a current supported release—such as 4.5.14 LTS or 5.2 LTS—based on project compatibility and test before upgrading production work.

Blender’s official version history lists Blender 4.5.1 LTS as released on July 29, 2025, but publishes no changelog for that point release. The features often associated with 4.5—such as Vulkan support and compositor and Grease Pencil improvements—belong to the Blender 4.5 LTS series, not a confirmed list of changes in 4.5.1.

As of October 7, 2026, Blender lists 4.5.14 as the latest 4.5 LTS maintenance release and 5.2 LTS as another active LTS option. For a fresh install, choose a current supported release rather than 4.5.1; use the 4.5 branch if project, add-on, or hardware compatibility calls for it, and test before moving production work.

What changed in Blender 4.5.1?

Blender’s official release history provides no changelog for 4.5.1 itself. That means there is no verified point-release feature or fix list to summarize. Do not treat changes announced for Blender 4.5 LTS as changes specific to 4.5.1.

The 4.5 LTS series introduced or highlighted several broader changes. Blender’s release recap describes supported Vulkan backend use, faster startup, and multi-threaded shader compilation by default on supported platforms. Vulkan is an optional backend, not enabled by default, and Blender advises keeping graphics drivers current. The series also brought compositor procedural texture nodes, Grease Pencil rendering and filtering improvements, a Point Cloud object type, and updates across areas including Cycles, interchange formats, animation, and video support.

Blender Foundation’s July 2025 announcement described nearly 500 bugs fixed across Blender 4.5 LTS. That is the Foundation’s series-level description, not a 4.5.1-specific count or an independent benchmark.

Should you install Blender 4.5.1?

For general use, Blender recommends the latest LTS or stable release. On the research date, that means choosing between current supported versions such as 4.5.14 LTS and 5.2 LTS according to your project’s compatibility and needs—not selecting 4.5.1 as if it were current.

Situation Practical choice
Starting a new project without a version constraint Choose a current supported LTS or stable release, and check Blender’s official download listings.
Your project or add-on depends on Blender 4.5 Use the current 4.5 LTS maintenance release and verify add-on and file compatibility.
A client, studio, or pipeline requires exactly 4.5.1 Keep that exact build available, but confirm the requirement and test the workflow before relying on it.
Your project needs newer features or fixes Evaluate the newer LTS, such as 5.2, on copies of project files before switching.
You use an older Intel Mac or macOS version Check the system requirements: Blender 4.5 LTS is the last release supporting Intel Macs and macOS 11.2 Big Sur; Blender 5.0 and later require Apple Silicon and macOS 13 Ventura or newer.

Blender says the 4.5 LTS branch is supported until July 2027, with maintenance updates rather than new features or API changes. Staying on that branch can suit a long-running project, but the latest maintenance build is preferable to an old point release when compatibility permits.

Check compatibility before upgrading

Blender advises production users to test compatibility and keep a consistent LTS version for a given project. Newer versions can add, remove, or change functionality in ways that affect production files. Multiple Blender versions can coexist, so retain a known-good installation while assessing a newer one.

  1. Check your constraints. Confirm the Blender version required by the project, add-ons, operating system, and hardware.
  2. Download from Blender. Use the official Blender download page and confirm the selected version and platform.
  3. Back up the project. Copy project files and preserve the linked assets, caches, and scripts you need.
  4. Test a copy. Open representative files in the candidate version and check add-ons, assets, render output, and essential workflows.
  5. Keep the known-good build. Switch the production project only after the new version passes your checks.

For platform-specific installation details, consult the Blender 4.5 Manual’s installation documentation. Check Blender’s current system requirements for your operating system, graphics hardware, and drivers. The requirements page’s general figures include 8 GB RAM and 2 GB GPU memory as minimums, and 32 GB RAM and 8 GB GPU memory as recommended; requirements vary by platform and workload.

Optional input devices

You do not need a drawing tablet to install or use Blender. Blender recommends a three-button mouse for optimal use, though a two-button mouse or trackpad is technically possible. Pen tablets and displays are supported and can be useful for sculpting, painting, and Grease Pencil work. Choose based on your workflow; no particular accessory is required.

FAQ

What changed specifically in Blender 4.5.1?

Blender’s official version history lists the release date but no changelog for 4.5.1. The 4.5 series has documented features and improvements, but they should not be presented as a verified 4.5.1 change list.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Blender 4.5.1 the latest 4.5 LTS release?

No. Blender’s 4.5 LTS page lists version 4.5.14, dated September 15, 2026, as the latest maintenance version as of October 7, 2026. Check Blender’s official listings for current versions before downloading.

Should I use Blender 4.5 LTS or 5.2 LTS?

Choose based on project and add-on compatibility, system support, and whether you need newer features. Test the target version with copies of production files before switching, and keep one consistent LTS version for a given project.

Does Vulkan make Blender faster on every computer?

No universal performance gain is established. Vulkan is an optional supported backend in Blender 4.5, is not enabled by default, and should be assessed with your graphics hardware, drivers, and workflow.
