Bristile’s Designer range is a contemporary concrete roof-tile profile built around a low-key, gently undulating appearance. The current Aspen data shows a 440 × 335 × 53 mm tile, coverage of 9.26 tiles per square metre and minimum pitches of 15° with sarking or 20° without sarking or sheet. Colour, thermal and supply details vary by variant and location, so use the current technical sheet and a physical sample before specifying or ordering.

What is the Bristile Designer roof tile profile?
Bristile Roofing positions Designer as “Sleek, minimalist and quietly undulating”. It is a concrete tile range intended to sit comfortably with contemporary building forms and coordinated exterior colour schemes. The profile is not a flat sheet: its surface has a restrained wave that gives a roof visual texture without a heavily traditional appearance.
Designer is a range rather than one universal specification. Aspen and Linen are separate colour or variant pages with their own solar and BASIX data. Dimensions and laying information published for Aspen provide a useful starting point, but the exact variant and the project’s roof design should be checked against the latest Bristile technical information before an order is placed.

Aspen specifications at a glance
The following values are from Bristile’s current Designer Aspen product information. They describe the tile and its stated laying conditions, not a complete roof-system design.
| Specification | Aspen value |
|---|---|
| Length | 440 mm |
| Width | 335 mm |
| Height | 53 mm |
| Coverage | 9.26 tiles per m² |
| Laying pattern | Straight bond |
| Watercourse width | 36 mm |
| Minimum head lap | 75 mm |
| Maximum head lap | 110 mm |
| Minimum pitch with sarking | 15° |
| Minimum pitch without sarking or sheet | 20° |
| Solar absorption | 0.43 |
| Light reflectance value (LRV) | 61.5 |
| BASIX rating shown | Light |
Coverage is a nominal planning figure. Valleys, hips, ridges, cuts, breakages and the roof’s geometry affect the quantity that must be ordered, so a roofer or estimator should calculate the actual take-off.

With sarking
For Aspen, Bristile lists a minimum roof pitch of 15° when sarking is used. Sarking is part of the weather-management design at this lower pitch; it does not remove the need to follow the manufacturer’s fixing, flashing and underlay requirements.
Without sarking or sheet
The listed minimum rises to 20° when there is no sarking or sheet. A roof that appears close to either threshold should be measured accurately rather than judged by eye, because pitch, exposure, roof length and detailing can affect compliance.

Head lap and fixing design
Aspen’s published head-lap range is 75 to 110 mm. Head lap is the amount one tile overlaps the tile below it. The selected lap must remain within the manufacturer’s current installation instructions and work with battens, flashings, penetrations and the site’s weather exposure. Ask a qualified roofing professional to confirm the complete build-up before construction.
Do Aspen and Linen have the same thermal data?
The basic size and coverage shown on the Aspen and Linen pages are the same, but their listed solar metrics differ. That is why a colour name alone should not be used as a substitute for checking the variant data.
| Variant | Dimensions | Coverage | Solar absorption | LRV | BASIX label shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aspen | 440 × 335 × 53 mm | 9.26 tiles/m² | 0.43 | 61.5 | Light |
| Linen | 440 × 335 × 53 mm | 9.26 tiles/m² | 0.55 | 40.5 | Medium |
Solar absorption indicates the proportion of incident solar energy absorbed by the surface, while LRV describes how much visible light a colour reflects. These published values can assist an Australian designer working through energy or planning requirements, but the project’s BASIX assessment also depends on the whole dwelling and its construction. Confirm the current variant sheet and your assessor’s requirements rather than extrapolating Aspen’s figures across every Designer colour.
Which Designer tile colours are available?
A retailer listing has shown the following names: Alabaster, Aspen, Bronze Due, Chestnut, Cool Smoke, Deep Shadow, Earth Red, Late Mist, Linen, Silver Gum, Storm Grey, Sunset Duo and Vanilla. This is an example of a retailer’s displayed selection, not a definitive, permanently current Bristile palette. Colours can be added, renamed, withdrawn or limited by production and distribution.

Why packs can look different
Bristile warns that “The composition of the raw materials as well as the firing process will result in colour variation not only within packs, but also from pack to pack.” Variation is therefore inherent to the manufacturing process. It is not safe to approve a roof solely from a screen image, printed brochure or single small swatch.
A practical sample check
- Obtain a physical sample or view several tiles at a distributor or showroom.
- Inspect the sample in daylight and, if possible, under the lighting conditions around the house.
- Ask whether the proposed order will be supplied from one production batch and how mixed batches will be handled.
- Keep an approved reference tile or photograph with the contract documentation, while accepting that installed tiles will still show natural variation.
How do you check local availability and get a quote?
The Aspen product page lists New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria under states sold. That listing indicates geographic sales coverage; it does not prove that every colour is in stock in every town, nor that a particular distributor can deliver on a chosen date.
For a location-specific answer, give a supplier the project suburb, roof area, preferred variant, approximate pitch, sarking requirement and desired delivery window. A retailer listing provides a request-a-quote route, but the final price and lead time still need to come from the supplier handling your order. Request confirmation of the exact colour name, quantity, batch expectations, accessories and freight before paying a deposit.
What does the 50-year warranty field mean?
Bristile’s Designer product information includes a 50-year product-warranty field, and Bristile’s technical-information area lists a 50 Year Product Warranty document. The field should not be read as a promise that an entire roof system will last 50 years or that every failure is covered for that period.

Warranty coverage can depend on product identification, installation, maintenance, exclusions, claims procedures and other conditions. Download and read the current warranty document for the exact tile and retain invoices, batch information and installation records. If a salesperson describes coverage more broadly than the written terms, ask for the relevant clause before proceeding.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Current specifications versus older brochure figures
An archived 2016 Queensland concrete-tile brochure called the Designer profile “Hacienda”, described it as rounded and gave nominal dimensions of 440 × 335 mm. It reported approximately 9.2 tiles per square metre, 4.87 kg per tile and about 50.21 kg per square metre for tiles alone, with the same 15° minimum pitch with sarking and 20° without.
Those figures are historical context, not a replacement for today’s product-specific data. The current Aspen page reports 9.26 tiles per square metre, so the small coverage difference should not be ignored when estimating quantities or structural loads. Use the latest technical sheet for engineering, truss design and ordering; use the old brochure only to understand how the profile was previously described.
Specification checklist for a new roof
- Identify the exact Designer variant and colour, not only the range name.
- Verify the latest dimensions, coverage, head-lap limits and minimum pitch.
- Record whether sarking or another sheet system is included in the roof design.
- Check variant-specific solar absorption, LRV and BASIX information where energy compliance matters.
- Have the roof structure checked for the tile system’s design loads; do not substitute an archived weight figure for current engineering data.
- Confirm ridge, hip, valley, verge, penetration and flashing details in the current installation manual.
- Inspect physical samples and discuss batch variation before approving the colour.
- Confirm local stock, production lead time, freight and the quantity allowed for cuts and breakages.
- Read the current product warranty and keep installation and purchase records.
Questions to put to your roofer or supplier
Is my roof steep enough?
Ask for the measured pitch and written confirmation that the proposed sarking arrangement and tile installation meet the current Bristile requirements. Aspen’s published thresholds are 15° with sarking and 20° without sarking or sheet.

How many tiles should I order?
Start with the published Aspen rate of 9.26 tiles per square metre, then add the project-specific allowance for hips, valleys, verges, cuts and breakages. The roofer should provide the take-off rather than multiplying roof-plan area by a rounded historical figure.
Will my delivered colour match the sample?
No sample can guarantee a perfectly uniform installed roof because Bristile identifies variation within and between packs as inherent. Ask how the supplier will sequence packs and what to do if different batches arrive.

Can I buy any listed colour near me?
Not necessarily. A state listed as sold is not confirmation of live stock or local distribution. The supplier must verify the specific variant, quantity and delivery date for your address.
Is Designer suitable for your project?
Designer is a sensible candidate when you want a concrete tile with a restrained contemporary profile and are prepared to select the colour from physical samples. Aspen’s published geometry and pitch limits give a clear starting point for design, while Linen demonstrates that thermal ratings can change between variants. The decision should be made only after the current technical sheet, roof pitch, sarking design, structural requirements, local supply and written warranty terms have all been checked for the particular project.
