What a Buwan ng Wika border is for
Buwan ng Wika is the Philippines’ National Language Month. A Department of Education memorandum dated July 9, 2007, describes the annual observance as running from August 1 to 31 under Proclamation No. 1041 (1997), with the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) leading it. That memorandum is historical guidance, not a current-year theme announcement. Read the DepEd memorandum.
For a classroom, a border can visually frame student writing, drawings, a poster, or a display board. Twinkl describes themed page borders as usable for classroom display walls, writing, and drawing. A school field-study account also describes a display board made with colored paper, pictures, and borders; it is an example, not an official recipe. The phrase “Buwan ng Wika border” most likely means this kind of visual edging or page frame. No official border specification, required palette, or required motif was established.

Choose a handmade or ready-made border
| Option | Best suited to | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Handmade with colored paper and pictures | A display tailored to a particular class activity, board, or page. | Measure the area first and keep the border from crowding the writing or artwork. Colored paper, pictures, and borders appear together in one school display example, not as universal requirements. See the illustrative field-study account. |
| Downloadable page border | Framing writing or drawing on individual sheets, or repeating a consistent frame across pages. | Confirm that the file format and page dimensions suit your printer and intended use. Twinkl describes page borders for display, writing, and drawing; availability can vary by region. See Twinkl’s page-border description. |
| Broader classroom display pack | A coordinated display that needs more than edging, such as lettering, posters, or cut-outs. | Check exactly which components are included and whether the resource is digital or physical; do not assume a listing is a physical kit. Twinkl’s Philippine Symbols Classroom Display Pack page describes borders, letters, cut-outs, banners, posters, and door hangers. See the pack description. |
Plan a border that fits the activity
- Choose the surface. Decide whether you are framing a sheet, poster, or classroom board, then measure it. A printable page border and a border intended for a wall display solve different size and layout problems.
- Set the visual weight. Leave the central area clear enough for the student work. Use a narrow frame for writing-heavy pages; a board can accommodate a broader edge if it does not compete with the display.
- Connect decorations to the activity. Choose colors, pictures, and symbols that relate to what the class is studying or presenting. There is no established official color scheme or motif for Buwan ng Wika borders, so avoid presenting a personal design choice as a rule.
- Make or select the border. For a handmade edge, cut colored paper into repeated shapes or arrange pictures around the frame. For a ready-made resource, preview the full design, confirm its dimensions and format, and check availability in your region.
- Assemble and review. Attach the pieces evenly, then check that the frame is secure and does not obscure text, artwork, or display information. For a physical board, generic bulletin-board border trim is an optional supply—not a specifically established Buwan ng Wika product.
Keep the design culturally respectful
Treat the border as support for the class’s language activity, not as a substitute for it. If the display represents a particular language, community, or symbol, connect the imagery to the lesson and follow the school’s guidance. The DepEd memorandum’s 2007 theme was “Maraming Wika, Matatag na Bansa”; its objectives included recognizing Philippine languages as natural and social resources and highlighting national, local, and English languages in identity, communication, literacy, and education. That is the theme and framing of the 2007 observance only, not a current-year theme or border requirement. DepEd Memorandum Pangkagawaran Blg. 262, s. 2007.
