Yes—but Canva alone creates a flipbook-style animation, not usually a true interactive page-turning flipbook. You can build a multi-page design, animate pages and individual elements, and export the result as an MP4 or GIF. For a realistic digital magazine or brochure with clickable page turns, reader controls, hosting, and analytics, export your Canva design as a PDF and import it into a dedicated flipbook platform.

The right workflow depends on what you mean by “flip book”: a short animated sequence, a browsable digital publication, or a traditional hand-drawn animation.

- Animated Canva presentation: A multi-page Canva design with transitions, moving objects, and timed scenes.
Canva is well suited to the first and third options. It can also create the page artwork for the second, but the interactive page-turning reader generally comes from a separate publishing service.
Canva’s current animation tools let you select a page or an element and choose Animate. Depending on the design and account, you may see page animations such as Combinations, Basic, Exaggerate, and Photo Movement, along with element animations and custom motion effects. For custom movement, Canva’s animation guidance uses select an element → Animate → Create an Animation.
How to make a flipbook-style animation in Canva
1. Start with a multi-page design
Choose a presentation, video, document, square post, or custom-size design. Select the page size and orientation before you begin so every frame has consistent dimensions.

For a magazine or brochure simulation, use one finished page per page or spread rather than trying to reproduce every movement of a sheet of paper.
2. Create one page for each change
Design the first page, then duplicate it. Make a small change on the duplicate—move an object, alter a drawing, change a word, or add the next stage of an action. Continue duplicating and editing.
Duplicating pages is faster and more consistent than rebuilding every frame. Small, gradual changes usually create smoother motion than large changes between pages.
3. Keep the artwork readable
- Use large text and strong contrast.
- Leave generous margins around important content.
- Avoid dense paragraphs if the result will be a GIF or fast-moving video.
- Keep recurring characters, backgrounds, and props aligned from page to page.
- Design for the final playback size, not only the large Canva editor view.
4. Animate pages and individual elements
To animate a whole page, select the page and choose Animate. To animate only a character, illustration, photo, or text box, select that element and open its animation controls.
Use page-level effects for scene changes and element-level effects for movement within a scene. Canva also supports custom motion paths through Animate → Create an Animation, which is useful when a preset does not match the direction or speed you need.
Canva’s Magic Animate feature can recommend animation for an entire presentation where it is available. It is listed for plans including Pro, Teams, Education, and Nonprofits; do not assume it is included with every free account.
5. Set the order and timing
Arrange pages in reading or playback order, then preview the complete sequence. Give text-heavy pages more time than title cards or visual transitions. If a viewer must pause the video to read, the timing is too fast for that audience.

Check that:
- No page is skipped.
- Objects do not appear too quickly or disappear before the motion finishes.
- Each scene has enough time to be understood.
- The direction of the animation feels consistent.
- The final output will be one continuous video rather than separate page files.
6. Export in the format that matches the goal
Canva lists PDF, GIF, and MP4 as separate output formats in its export documentation. They preserve different parts of the project:

Use Share → Download, then choose the available format for your design. Canva’s exact export options can vary by design type and account.
What this Canva-only method can—and cannot—do
A Canva animation can look like a sequence of pages turning or illustrations changing. It is useful for a social-media post, a short story, an animated presentation, or a design-led explainer.
It does not automatically create:
- A reader-controlled page-turn interface.
- A realistic interactive page curl.
- A searchable, hosted online publication.
- Analytics showing which pages people viewed.
- A fully accessible digital magazine.
A video also forces you to choose the reading speed. An interactive flipbook lets each reader turn pages at their own pace. That difference matters for catalogs, portfolios, reports, ebooks, and brochures containing substantial text.
How to make a real interactive flipbook from Canva
For a digital magazine, catalog, brochure, portfolio, or report, use Canva as the design layer and a flipbook platform as the publishing layer.

- Create the document in Canva. Keep all pages in one design and place them in the final reading order.
- Export the design as a PDF. For a professional publication, test PDF Print or the highest-quality PDF option appropriate for the service. FlippingBook specifically recommends PDF Print for high-quality Canva flipbooks.
- Choose a flipbook publisher. Examples include Heyzine, FlippingBook, and ZenFlip.
- Upload or send the PDF. Some services offer a Canva integration; others use a conventional PDF upload.
- Configure the reader. Set the page-turn appearance, controls, links, sharing settings, and any available media or branding options.
- Proofread the published version. Check page order, text, links, page size, loading speed, and mobile behavior.
- Publish or embed it. Use the service’s share link or embed code on your website.
Heyzine’s Canva workflow describes using Share → More → Heyzine, selecting the pages, and opening the resulting flipbook. Because this is a third-party integration, menu placement may change in the live Canva editor. Its instructions also warn users to select all required pages rather than importing only the first ten.
FlippingBook’s Canva workflow is based on exporting the Canva design as a PDF and bringing that PDF into FlippingBook, where page-turn effects and interactive features are added.
ZenFlip likewise describes exporting a Canva design as a PDF and uploading it to create an interactive flipbook. Its claims about plan compatibility, analytics, or accessibility should be checked against the vendor’s current plans and documentation.

Which flipbook platform should you use?
Heyzine
Heyzine is aimed at a quick Canva-to-flipbook handoff and offers a page-turn presentation and sharing workflow according to its Canva integration page. It is a reasonable choice when you want to move a multi-page Canva design into a browsable reader without treating Canva’s animation timeline as the final publication.
FlippingBook
FlippingBook targets business documents such as brochures, catalogs, magazines, and reports. Its official Canva guidance describes converting a Canva PDF into an interactive flipbook, and its product pages describe support for additional interactive content such as videos and GIFs. Verify current plan requirements before relying on a specific feature.

ZenFlip
ZenFlip markets PDF-to-flipbook conversion from Canva and says its workflow works with any Canva plan and is free to start. Those are vendor claims, not a guarantee that every feature is available without payment. Check current limits, branding, analytics, and accessibility options before publishing.
Can you make a hand-drawn flipbook in Canva?
Yes, for a simple sequence. Duplicate a page, make a small drawing change, duplicate it again, and repeat. Export the result as a GIF or MP4.
This approach works for a bouncing ball, a moving character, changing lettering, a short storyboard, or a basic stop-motion effect. It becomes inefficient when you need hundreds of carefully timed hand-drawn frames.
Canva’s cited animation workflow is designed primarily around pages, presentations, design elements, and video. A specialist animation application is a better fit when you need onion skinning, precise frame rates, extensive frame management, detailed character animation, or rotoscoping.
Do you need Canva Pro?
Not necessarily. Canva’s basic page-animation workflow should not be described as Pro-only. Free accounts may support basic animation controls, while premium assets, some advanced text-animation controls, and Magic Animate can depend on plan, design type, account, or region.
As a dated US pricing snapshot, Canva’s pricing page displayed annual prices on August 18, 2026 of Free at US$0, Pro at US$144 per year for one person, and Business at US$250 per year per person, before tax. Regional prices, monthly billing, promotions, taxes, and eligibility-based plans may differ, and Canva says its offerings can change. Paying for Canva Pro also does not necessarily remove the need for a separate flipbook publisher.

The animation disappears in the PDF
This is expected. PDF is the static-document route. Export as MP4 or GIF for motion, or upload the static PDF to a flipbook service for interactive page turning.
The exported result is a video instead of separate pages
MP4 and GIF are sequence-based outputs. If you need individual pages, download a PDF or image files instead. If you need a page-turning reader, upload the PDF to a flipbook publisher.
Only some pages appear after import
Confirm that every page was selected before sending the design to the third-party service. Heyzine specifically warns about importing only the first ten pages in its Canva workflow; treat that as a vendor-specific pitfall rather than a universal Canva limit.

The text is too small
A video or GIF does not let viewers control the reading pace. Increase text size, simplify the page, slow the timing, or use an interactive PDF-based flipbook for documents that must be read.

The flipbook is slow on a phone
Test the published version on both desktop and mobile. Check page-loading speed, zoom behavior, portrait and landscape layouts, swipe gestures, and whether links and buttons are easy to tap. High-quality PDFs may preserve sharper text but can create larger uploads.
Links, videos, or transparency changed after import
A flipbook service may interpret PDF links, fonts, transparency, spreads, embedded objects, and page dimensions differently from Canva. Review the published version page by page instead of assuming the import is identical.
The vendor requires a paid plan
Canva and a flipbook service are separate products. A free Canva account may be enough to create the pages, while hosting, analytics, custom branding, embeds, or interactive media may require a plan from the flipbook provider.
Accessibility and publishing checks
A realistic page-turn effect is not automatically accessible. Before sharing a publication:
- Maintain a logical reading order.
- Use sufficient color contrast.
- Make links descriptive and easy to identify.
- Keep text selectable where possible.
- Offer a downloadable PDF or plain-text alternative when appropriate.
- Consider reduced-motion needs for animated versions.
- Test keyboard, touch, zoom, and screen-size behavior.
Do not assume a vendor’s accessibility claims mean that every publication meets a particular accessibility standard. Check the selected service’s current documentation and test the finished publication.
The best choice for your project
Use Canva alone when you need a quick animated visual, a presentation, or a short flipbook-style GIF or MP4.
Use Canva plus a flipbook platform when readers need to browse a magazine, brochure, catalog, portfolio, report, or ebook at their own pace.
Use dedicated animation software when your project depends on extensive hand-drawn frame-by-frame work, onion skinning, precise frame rates, or complex character animation.
