No. The official Procreate app for iPhone is Procreate Pocket, and its U.S. App Store listing showed a one-time price of $5.99 on August 16, 2026. It is not the same app as Procreate for iPad. If you need a genuinely free option, Adobe Fresco is the clearest alternative.
Which Procreate app works on an iPhone?
Procreate Pocket is the iPhone-specific app. The standard Procreate app is made for iPad and Apple Pencil, and its separate U.S. listing showed $12.99 on August 16, 2026. Installing the iPad listing is not a legitimate way to put Procreate on an iPhone.
| App | Device | U.S. price observed Aug. 16, 2026 | Subscription | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Procreate Pocket | iPhone | $5.99, one-time purchase | No subscription stated by Procreate | Painting and illustration on an iPhone |
| Procreate | iPad | $12.99, one-time purchase | No subscription stated by Procreate | Large-canvas iPad and Apple Pencil workflows |
Prices can differ by country, currency, taxes, promotions and Apple Account storefront. Check the live listing for your region before paying. Procreate describes Pocket as available exclusively through the App Store and does not present an official free edition or free trial.

How to download Procreate Pocket safely
- Open the App Store on your iPhone.
- Search for Procreate Pocket, or open the official listing at apps.apple.com/us/app/procreate-pocket/id916366645.
- Verify that the developer is Savage Interactive Pty Ltd.
- Check the price, compatibility notice and app size shown for your Apple Account.
- Tap the price button and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your Apple Account password.
- Open Pocket from the Home Screen or App Library after installation.
You do not need a separate Procreate account or a recurring subscription for the normal purchase. If you bought Pocket previously with the same Apple Account, check your App Store purchase history before paying again. Family Sharing may let eligible family members use an already-purchased copy, but availability depends on the account, region and Apple’s current sharing rules.
Compatibility, iOS requirement and storage
The official FAQ identifies Procreate Pocket version 4.0.18 as requiring iOS 15.4.1 or later. Check your software at Settings → General → Software Update and your exact model at Settings → General → About.

What Procreate Pocket can do
Pocket is a full-featured iPhone art application, not merely a viewer for iPad projects. Procreate’s product page and App Store listing describe:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.

These capabilities do not establish complete feature parity with every current iPad Procreate function. Pocket is a separate iPhone product with its own interface and hardware limits.
Is Pocket suitable for professional painting?
It can produce professional-looking work, but comfort and scale depend heavily on your particular iPhone, available storage and input method.

Reasons to choose it
- A single upfront purchase instead of a subscription
- Advanced brushes, layers, color controls and animation
- PSD support for common professional handoffs
- Time-lapse and export tools for process documentation and social content
- An interface designed specifically for phone use
Important limitations
- An iPhone display is much smaller than an iPad canvas, which can make long sessions tiring.
- Storage and memory can constrain very large canvases or heavily layered files.
- Finger input is less precise than a pressure-sensitive stylus.
- The official FAQ says modern third-party Bluetooth styluses are no longer officially supported. Some older Wacom, Adonit and Ten One Design styluses retain an option, without a guarantee of functionality.
Do not assume Pocket projects automatically synchronize with the iPad app; the available official information establishes separate apps, not automatic cross-device syncing.

Update the app
- Open the App Store.
- Tap the Apple Account or profile icon in the upper-right corner.
- Scroll through available updates.
- Find Procreate Pocket and tap Update.
If it is not listed, search for Pocket directly, confirm you are using the intended Apple Account, check storage, restart the App Store or iPhone, and verify the iOS requirement. Export or back up important artwork before deleting the app.
Best Value
- The large 6.9-inch display combines ProMotion 120Hz technology with advanced color calibration, giving movies, games, and productivity apps a spacious, crisp, and fluid visual experience that’s ideal for multitasking or immersive media consumption.
When installation fails
- “This app requires a newer version of iOS”: update iOS if your model supports it. Otherwise, the current version is unsupported.
- A different price appears: use the amount shown in your own regional App Store; taxes and storefronts vary.
- You cannot find the app: search the exact name, verify Savage Interactive Pty Ltd, check your Apple Account country or region, and start from Procreate’s official Pocket page.
- Crashes or unusual behavior: update iOS and Pocket, restart the phone, check free space, and consult Procreate’s Pocket help resources.
Why “free Procreate” downloads are unsafe
Cracked IPAs, modified apps, torrents and third-party installation profiles are not official distribution channels. They can expose your Apple Account, artwork and personal data to malware, violate licensing terms, and stop working after an iOS update. The legitimate installation route is the Apple App Store. A “free download” is not evidence that the full app is legally free to use.
Best free and lower-cost alternatives
Adobe Fresco: best zero-upfront-cost alternative
Adobe markets Fresco as a free drawing and painting app for iPhone and iPad. Its feature set emphasizes raster, vector and live brushes, a large brush library and animation-oriented tools. Download it from the App Store.
Fresco is a strong choice if you want no upfront purchase, vector and raster tools together, or an Adobe-centered workflow. It does not reproduce Procreate’s interface, Pocket’s workflow or its one-time-purchase model, and you should check the live listing for any optional purchases.
Sketchbook: simple, lower-cost sketching
Sketchbook presents a free offering with optional premium functionality in its iPhone listing. It suits beginners and casual sketchers, but pricing and the exact premium feature set can change, so verify them in the current App Store page.

Other App Store choices
Apple’s drawing-app collection includes Fresco, Sketchbook, Clip Studio Paint, Infinite Painter and other tools. Treat these as alternatives rather than automatically free apps: plans, trials, ads and feature restrictions differ. Browse the collection at Apple’s drawing-app guide.
