The only verifiable record of Before & After:: Caroline’s Chest of Drawers is a listing in Addicted 2 Decorating’s “Friday Wrapup,” published January 7, 2011. The roundup places the title in a furniture-makeover category, but it does not describe the chest, show a usable project page, identify the person who completed the work, or record any paint, finish, tools, hardware, cost, or method.
That makes this an archival reference rather than a step-by-step makeover tutorial. You can accurately treat the entry as evidence that the project was selected as furniture-makeover inspiration; you cannot responsibly reconstruct what happened to the chest from the listing alone.

What the January 7, 2011 listing actually is
Kristi Linauer’s Addicted 2 Decorating “Friday Wrapup,” dated January 7, 2011, includes the exact title “Before & After:: Caroline’s Chest of Drawers.” The post presents that title as part of the blog’s broader “Before & After” furniture-makeover category.
Linauer explained that category as a place for furniture transformations and for selected projects by other people when she had not completed one of her own that week. Her description was: “Before & After–Who doesn’t love a good furniture makeover?! Now I know there’s no way I’ll complete one per week, so in the weeks that I haven’t done one of my own to show you, I’ll share my favorites that others have done.”

That explanation matters because it limits what the roundup proves. The title is not necessarily Linauer’s own project, and the roundup does not say that Caroline is a customer, a contributor, a professional refinisher, or the owner of the blog. It simply records that a makeover associated with Caroline’s chest of drawers was selected for inclusion in a weekly collection.

Why “before and after” does not reveal the makeover method
A before-and-after label tells you that a visual change was being presented or referenced. It does not identify the work that produced the change. In this case, the inspected roundup contains no usable description of the starting condition, the finished condition, or the intervening steps.
The title appears beside a thumbnail, but following that thumbnail led to an image resource rather than to the original project article. Without the original page or a readable caption, the image reference cannot establish the chest’s color, surface, construction, damage, or final appearance. A thumbnail also cannot establish whether the change was cosmetic, structural, or both.
Accordingly, the listing does not support assumptions about any of the following:
- whether the chest was painted, stained, sealed, stripped, waxed, or left partly original;
- whether the existing coating was cleaned, sanded, scraped, chemically removed, or simply covered;
- which primer, paint, stain, clear coat, wax, filler, adhesive, or cleaner was used;
- whether drawers, runners, feet, trim, or the case were repaired or replaced;
- whether knobs or pulls were retained, refinished, moved, or replaced;
- how long the project took, what it cost, or what tools were required; or
- who performed the work and whether the result was intended for ordinary household use.
Known facts and unresolved details
The clearest way to read this record is to separate the catalog information from the project information that is absent. The following table records that boundary.
| Question | What the source establishes |
|---|---|
| What is the title? | “Before & After:: Caroline’s Chest of Drawers.” |
| Where is it listed? | Addicted 2 Decorating’s “Friday Wrapup.” |
| When was the listing published? | January 7, 2011. |
| What editorial category does it belong to? | The blog’s “Before & After” furniture-makeover category. |
| Was it necessarily the author’s own project? | No. The category description says it could feature favorites completed by other people. |
| Who is Caroline? | Not stated. |
| What did the chest look like before? | Not stated in the accessible listing. |
| What did it look like after? | Not stated in the accessible listing. |
| What preparation or construction work was done? | Not stated. |
| What products or tools were used? | Not stated. |
| Was a product recommended or endorsed? | No project-specific recommendation is established. |
| Is there a recoverable original tutorial in the located material? | No. The thumbnail destination led to an image resource, not a usable article describing the makeover. |
“Not stated” is not a synonym for “nothing happened.” It means the available record does not let a reader distinguish among several plausible possibilities. Treating an unknown finish or preparation step as a fact would turn a catalog entry into an invented tutorial.

What this means if you are planning to paint a chest of drawers
Painting readers often use before-and-after posts to choose a finish, estimate preparation, or copy a sequence of operations. This particular entry cannot answer those practical questions. It should not be used as evidence that a certain paint system worked on the chest, that sanding was unnecessary, or that a particular hardware change produced the result.
If you are considering a similar project, evaluate your own chest rather than borrowing undocumented details from the title. Before choosing materials, record:
- the existing coating and whether it is sound, flaking, glossy, waxed, or unknown;
- the substrate visible at worn edges, inside drawers, and on the back;
- any veneer lifting, loose joints, damaged corners, missing feet, or sticking runners;
- the condition and attachment method of the pulls or knobs; and
- the intended use, including how much abrasion the top and drawer fronts will receive.
Those observations determine the appropriate cleaning, adhesion, repair, and protection decisions. They do not reveal what Caroline’s project involved; they are a separate checklist for a new project whose conditions you can actually inspect.
Do not infer a paint color or sheen
The accessible record does not name a color, brand, sheen, primer, or protective coat. A viewer who remembers a thumbnail, or sees a reused image elsewhere, still would not have a reliable product specification. Lighting, image processing, and the surrounding room can also alter how a finish appears. Select a color and sheen from a current sample on your own prepared surface, not from an undocumented caption.
Do not infer a preparation shortcut
There is no evidence that the chest was stripped, lightly abraded, primed, or painted without sanding. Preparation should follow the coating and substrate you find, plus the instructions for the system you choose. The roundup cannot validate a shortcut for another piece of furniture.
Do not infer a hardware or repair plan
The source does not say whether the drawers worked before the makeover or whether any hardware changed. Measure existing hole spacing and inspect runners and joints before ordering replacement parts. A title containing “chest of drawers” is not proof that the makeover included new pulls, repaired drawers, or structural work.

How to cite the feature without overstating it
For a project log, classroom discussion, or historical reference, identify it as a roundup listing: Addicted 2 Decorating, “Friday Wrapup,” January 7, 2011, listing “Before & After:: Caroline’s Chest of Drawers.” Describe it as furniture-makeover inspiration selected under the blog’s “Before & After” category.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Keep the attribution narrow. You can say that the roundup included the title and that the category could feature other people’s makeovers. You should not write that Linauer painted the chest, that Caroline supplied a tutorial, or that the post recommends a particular product unless a verifiable original article provides those facts.
If an original project page becomes available later, verify it independently before adding details. Check that the page matches the title, identify its publication date and author, read the full materials list, and distinguish the maker’s own instructions from comments or later updates. Confirm that any product claim belongs to this chest rather than to a neighboring project in the roundup.
What the listing contributes despite its limits
The entry is useful as a snapshot of how furniture makeovers were curated on a decorating blog in 2011. It shows that “Before & After” was an editorial category, not necessarily a single author’s weekly production schedule. It also preserves the exact project title and the association with Caroline’s chest of drawers.
For a reader looking for a replicable finish, however, the listing is incomplete. It contains no dimensions, photographs that can be assessed as project documentation, sequence of operations, drying or curing information, maintenance advice, or safety guidance. Those omissions are material: each one can change the correct approach for a different chest.
