“Chloe Dao’s Design Studio Tour” is a 2008 behind-the-scenes visit to the Houston studio of the fashion designer and Project Runway Season 2 winner. The CRAFT feature follows Dao at work on designs and clothing for an upcoming wholesale line, and highlights her hands-on approach to making garments.

Dao showed the visitors designs and clothing she was preparing for an upcoming wholesale line. Zdrieu contrasts the new studio with Dao’s earlier work in her mother’s kitchen and dining room, conveying how her work space had changed as her business developed.
Dao’s work at Lot 8
The 2008 article describes Lot 8, Dao’s Houston boutique and brand, as a shopping destination. It says Dao designed most of the clothing sold there and took part in production herself, including cutting fabric. These details belong to the article’s account of that period; they should not be read as an update on Lot 8 today.

Zdrieu singles out a pressing tip from Dao and links to a video about pressing techniques that can help garments look more finished and professional. For someone trying garment pressing, a general sewing iron is one possible tool; the CRAFT feature does not identify or endorse a particular iron, brand, or model.

Who joined the studio visit?
Fashion designer Diana Eng, also a Project Runway Season 2 contestant, accompanied Zdrieu on the shoot. The article notes that Eng may be heard giggling in the background. CRAFT also points readers to a Flickr photo set from the visit.
