Kristi Linauer’s “Beautiful, Colorful Chandeliers (and a Sneak Peek Of My Glass Chandelier)” is an inspiration post and project preview, not a documented makeover. It follows her search for a distinctive dining-area fixture, the purchase of an antique glass chandelier, an accidental break during transport, and a plan to repaint it green. The post never establishes that the repair or painting was completed.
That unfinished status is important for anyone borrowing the idea. The article records a decorator’s taste, buying decision and intended color direction; it does not certify the chandelier’s structural condition, electrical readiness, paint performance or final appearance.

What the author was trying to achieve
Linauer was choosing character and color over preserving a conventional antique finish. She considered two ends of the decorating spectrum: a flea-market chandelier transformed with spray paint or a costly Murano glass chandelier. Her eventual find supplied the shape she wanted without requiring her to preserve its existing appearance. In her own account, the silhouette and the desired green color mattered more to her than antique-finish authenticity or resale value.
How an inspiration image became a $200 fixture
The purchase story
The chandelier is described by Linauer as an antique glass fixture. The post reports an initial asking price of $1,200 and a later markdown to $200, which is the amount she paid. Those figures belong to this particular purchase story; they are not a market valuation, an average discount or evidence that comparable chandeliers normally sell at either price.

The price drop explains why the project could make sense to a decorator who wanted an unusual centerpiece without paying for a pristine, museum-style object. It does not tell a buyer whether another vintage fixture is fairly priced. Condition, completeness and the cost of making a fixture usable would still have to be assessed separately.

The broken arm is the project’s key unresolved problem
What happened in transit
On the trip from the store to Linauer’s paint shed, one chandelier arm snapped off. The break occurred before the planned color change, so the object was not an intact starting point for painting. The post says she planned to use Loctite Epoxy, but it does not name a formulation, describe the joint, explain how the piece would be supported while curing or report whether the repair succeeded.
Why an epoxy mention is not a repair specification
An author’s intention to try an adhesive is useful as a clue to the project’s next step, but it is not proof that a generic epoxy is suitable for a suspended light fixture. A chandelier arm may be decorative, may carry part of the fixture’s weight, or may interact with wiring and hardware; the post supplies none of those engineering details. It also does not establish the load, the material at the break, the condition of the remaining arms or the consequences of a failure.
For a real fixture, separate decorative bonding from structural support. Treat the adhesive reference as product discovery only, not as an instruction to copy. A qualified lighting or restoration professional can determine whether the damaged piece needs mechanical reinforcement, replacement or a different repair method. The source post offers no electrical or installation assessment, so it cannot be used to clear the chandelier for hanging.

The status readers can responsibly assign
- Documented: an arm broke during transport.
- Planned: Linauer intended to investigate Loctite Epoxy.
- Not documented: a repaired arm, a successful load test, a replacement part or a finished installation.
The planned Green Apple finish
Color choice and room coordination
Linauer wrote, “I’m going to use Rustoleum spray paint in Green Apple.” She connected that choice to green in her window-treatment fabric, making the chandelier part of a broader room palette rather than an isolated accent. Green was a deliberate bridge between the fixture and textiles already in the space.
She also said she was waiting for warmer weather to paint. That detail matters because it shows the project had not reached the application stage when the preview was written. The post does not say that the chandelier was cleaned, primed, sprayed or reassembled.
What the named product context does and does not prove
Rust-Oleum currently describes its Painter’s Touch 2X spray paint as suitable for metal among other surface categories and gives light-coat application guidance across several sheens. That supports the general category of a metal-compatible spray paint for a chandelier makeover, but the post never identifies the fixture’s metal composition or records a test panel.

A manufacturer safety data sheet printed August 22, 2023 identifies Painter’s Touch 2X Satin Green Apple Spray as product 249077. The document confirms that the named color appeared in manufacturer documentation at that date; it does not guarantee that the color is currently stocked, sold in every region or unchanged in a later formulation. The same sheet classifies the aerosol as highly flammable and lists respiratory and handling precautions. Anyone using an aerosol should follow the current product label and safety data sheet rather than relying on a decade-old blog plan.

There is no evidence in the post that Green Apple was applied, that the color matched the window fabric, that coverage was even or that the coating survived handling. The most precise description is “planned finish,” not “finished color.” That distinction prevents an inspiration photograph or a quoted intention from being mistaken for a performance review.

- Start with the visual goal. Decide whether the priority is a particular silhouette, a bold color, the preservation of original glass or a connection to existing fabrics. Linauer’s choice shows that a strong shape can be the reason to accept a nontraditional finish.
- Record the object before changing it. Photograph every arm, glass element, fastener and finish. Note chips, cracks, missing pieces and any movement at joints. This creates a condition record without assuming that an old fixture is sound.
- Separate restoration from painting. A broken arm, loose component or uncertain support point is a repair question. Color selection is a design question. Resolve the former with appropriate expertise before treating the latter as the main task.
- Confirm the surface and product match. The manufacturer’s current label and safety data sheet should govern surface preparation, ventilation, flammability precautions and recoat directions. The Green Apple reference identifies a color idea; it does not substitute for checking the product sold in your region.

Readers looking for a finished makeover will not find one in this post. A comment question—“Did you do the project?”—captures the natural reader curiosity created by the preview. The available post itself does not answer that question with a documented completion. Any account that presents the Green Apple finish or the epoxy repair as an accomplished result would be going beyond what Linauer wrote.

The appeal is not a proven coating system or a repeatable restoration method. It is the permission to make a high-character object fit a room’s color story. Linauer saw value in an unusual form, accepted that the original finish might not be the priority, and linked the proposed green to fabric already in the condo. The $200 find, the transport damage and the waiting period all show the less glamorous decisions that sit behind a dramatic decorating image.
For painters and decorators, the durable lesson is to label each decision correctly: inspiration, purchase, damage, repair plan, color plan and verified result are different stages. Keeping those stages distinct lets a colorful chandelier remain an exciting design idea without turning an unfinished blog preview into unsupported advice about structural repair, electrical safety or paint durability.
