How do you write a congratulations message?
Use this simple structure: “Congratulations on [specific achievement]. [Personal recognition of their effort, qualities, or impact.] Wishing you [relevant hope for what comes next].” Naming the milestone makes the message more personal; Hallmark recommends mentioning the achievement when you can (Hallmark’s congratulations-card guidance).
Recommended Free Tools
- For a short note: Mention the achievement and add one sincere wish.
- For someone close: Add a personal detail, shared memory, or specific reason you admire them.
- For a professional contact: Keep the praise warm and direct without claiming a closeness you do not have.
Choose a tone that suits both the occasion and the recipient: formal, warm, casual, or humorous. If you are unsure, sincere and specific is a safe choice.
