Materials
- One sheet of 12 x 12-inch green glitter paper, as specified by the tutorial
- The tutorial’s Plumbob template in JPG or SVG format
- A reusable plastic straw
- A black satin headband for the wearable version
- Glue and hot glue, as used in the tutorial
- For hand assembly: an X-Acto knife and bone folder, or a blunt kitchen utensil as a folder substitute

- A weight large enough to cover the glued area while the halves dry
Step-by-step instructions
1. Choose hand cutting or a Cricut
Download the JPG or SVG template from Lady Thornback’s tutorial. For a Cricut, the tutorial says to set the two shapes to 11.5 x 11.5 inches. It says the shapes fit at full size on 12 x 12-inch paper. If cutting by hand, use the template as your cutting guide; a Cricut is not required.
2. Cut and score the shapes
Cut out both matching shapes. With a Cricut, use its cutting and scoring option. For hand work, the tutorial recommends an X-Acto knife and bone folder. If you do not have a bone folder, it suggests using the flat or blunt end of a kitchen utensil to crease the folds.

3. Fold and glue the tabs
Fold the template along its score lines and glue the tabs to form each half. Follow the template’s folds and tab layout so the two shapes remain consistent.
4. Dry the glued halves
The tutorial recommends placing paper between the glued parts to keep them from sticking together, then laying a weight over the glued area. It specifies leaving the pieces to dry for two hours. This timing is the tutorial author’s direction; follow the glue product’s instructions as well.

5. Join the two halves
Once the halves have dried, the tutorial recommends hot-gluing them together. Hold the join for about one minute, then allow it to dry. The one-minute hold is the creator’s instruction, not a tested guarantee for every glue or material.
6. Add the headband support (optional)
For the wearable version, cut the reusable straw to about three inches and glue one end to the headband. The tutorial describes using a black satin headband: cut a straw-sized hole in the fabric at the top center and use hot glue to control fraying. Glue the Plumbob to the other end of the straw.

The article described the Plumbob as having begun as a simple UI tool 22 years earlier.
