The Hancept Zero Mk2 is a South Korean-designed ballpoint that starts as a roughly 2 mm-thick, credit-card-sized metal object and folds into a rigid hexagonal pen in about three seconds. Magnets and interlocking parts create the transformation; the pen then writes with a replaceable standard D-1 refill.
What is the Hancept Zero Mk2?
Hancept describes the Zero Mk2 as a full-metal, foldable ballpoint pen designed to occupy a credit-card slot when closed. Its mechanism uses 54 precisely machined parts made from aluminum and stainless steel. New Atlas reported the pen weighs less than 1 oz (28 g).
The earlier Hancept Zero received an iF Design Award in 2022, giving the Mk2 a design lineage beyond the novelty of its folding mechanism.

How does the card-sized pen work?
From flat card to writing tool
In its stored form, the Mk2 is approximately 2 mm thick and follows a standard credit-card footprint, according to Hancept. Magnets and interlocking components guide the panels into place. Hancept states that the change from card to pen takes about three seconds.
Why the finished shape is hexagonal
The deployed body forms a hexagonal barrel rather than a round tube. That geometry gives the folded panels a defined writing shape and helps prevent the pen from rolling across a desk. Whether the grip feels comfortable for long writing sessions is a personal question; the available coverage does not provide independent ergonomic testing.

Does it really fit in a wallet?
In card mode, the Zero Mk2 is intended to fit a conventional credit-card slot. Hancept lists its thickness at approximately 2 mm—about the thickness of two stacked credit cards—so a crowded wallet may still make insertion or removal difficult. Check the dimensions of your specific card pocket rather than assuming every minimalist wallet has the same clearance.
The wallet advantage is therefore portability, not zero added bulk: you trade one slim card slot for a metal writing instrument that can be deployed when needed.

What refill does Hancept Zero use?
The Mk2 accepts a standard D-1 ballpoint refill. D-1 is an international refill format used by many compact pens, so replacement cartridges are generally easier to search for than a proprietary Hancept-only cartridge. Match the refill’s length, tip size and ink type to the specification supplied with your pen before ordering.
Choosing a replacement

Is a card-sized metal pen worth it?
The Zero Mk2 makes sense when wallet portability, mechanical design and a refillable metal body matter more than the lowest price or fastest purchase. If you simply need a dependable pen for the least money, a conventional pocket pen remains the more rational choice.
