Yes, Deco is a real standalone iPhone app—but the version covered at launch in April 2025 is no longer the whole story. Deco 2.0 has been redesigned for iOS 26 and focuses on a dedicated, playful canvas for combining photos, cut-out stickers, emojis, text, colors, gradients, stripes, and effects into custom lock-screen and home-screen wallpapers.

The current U.S. App Store listing shows a $2.99 price. That is a one-time purchase in the launch-era description rather than a subscription, although App Store prices and purchase terms can change by region and over time.

What Deco actually is

Deco – Lock Screen Wallpapers, from developer William Jones, is a wallpaper-composition app rather than a wallpaper gallery. You create the artwork yourself on a visual canvas, save it, and export the finished design for use with iPhone’s wallpaper tools.

A typical design can start with a photo, gradient, stripe pattern, or solid color. You can then add photo cutouts, text, emojis, stickers, and decorative elements, adjusting their size, position, layering, borders, colors, and effects. The current App Store listing describes effects including pixelate, comic-book, and sketch styles.

That makes Deco best understood as a small, focused design studio for wallpapers. It is not primarily an AI image generator, an icon-replacement system, a subscription wallpaper catalog, or a full professional photo editor.

What changed in Deco 2.0?

The original April 2025 launch coverage described an app with photo, stripe, gradient, and solid-color backgrounds, stickers, emojis, Genmoji, text, a canvas library, and Image Playground support on compatible devices. It was presented as an iOS 18.2-or-later app priced at $2.99.

Deco 2.0 is a more developed version of that idea. According to the current App Store listing, the redesign adds or emphasizes:

  • Sticker Studio: Make stickers from photos and customize their borders and colors.
  • More visual effects: Apply pixelate, comic-book, and sketch treatments where supported.
  • Curated backgrounds: Browse Nature, Moods, Classics, Vibrant, Minimalist, and Seasonal categories, including seasonal selections.
  • Dedicated background editors: Work separately with photos, stripes, gradients, and solid colors.
  • Faster object editing: Resize and move elements together, select multiple items, and duplicate objects instantly.
  • More imports and exports: Bring images in from the camera or Files, export a complete canvas, or export individual stickers.
  • Additional collections: The listing mentions Stickerbomb, Kamoji, and Developer Classics icon collections.

The version history identifies 2.0 as the major redesign and 2.0.1 as a subsequent bug-fix and polish release. The App Store page displays January dates for those entries, but its extracted version-history information does not establish a complete year for every entry, so it is safer not to assign a more specific date without checking the live listing.

How to make a wallpaper in Deco

1. Choose the background

Start with one of the app’s built-in approaches: import a photo, choose a gradient, build a stripe design, or select a solid color. The current listing also points to curated background categories and seasonal options.

Photos can be imported from the library, Camera, or Files. A personal photo of a pet, person, object, or favorite place gives Deco’s sticker tools something distinctive to work with, while a gradient or solid color is better for a restrained design.

2. Add stickers, text, and emojis

Use photo cutouts to separate a subject from its background, then add text, emojis, or items from Deco’s icon collections. Sticker borders and color controls can help unify elements that came from different sources.

Automatic subject separation is useful in principle, but its results will depend on the source image. Hair, fur, transparent objects, low-contrast subjects, busy backgrounds, and motion blur are all difficult cases for cutout tools. Deco’s listing confirms the feature, but it does not provide an accuracy rate or guarantee a clean result for every image.

3. Arrange the composition

Move, resize, rotate, and layer objects until the layout works as a lock screen or home screen. Deco 2.0’s multiple-selection and duplication tools are particularly useful for repeating stickers or keeping several elements aligned.

Leave breathing room around the lock-screen clock and widgets. On the home screen, remember that app icons will cover part of the image. A composition that looks balanced on Deco’s canvas can feel crowded once iOS adds its interface elements.

4. Apply effects and save

Style individual stickers and apply available effects such as pixelate, comic book, or sketch. You can keep the project in Deco’s canvas library, export the entire canvas, or export individual stickers for other uses.

The launch coverage said users could set a finished design as an iPhone wallpaper. The current listing puts more emphasis on exporting, so the dependable workflow is to export the image and apply it through iOS’s normal wallpaper flow if a direct wallpaper button is not available in the current build or on your device.

Is Deco an AI wallpaper app?

Not in its current positioning. Image Playground support was part of the launch-era feature set for compatible Apple Intelligence devices, but Deco 2.0’s version history says “Image Playgrounds removed.”

Current coverage should therefore describe Deco as a composition and sticker app. Its emphasis is on arranging supplied photos, cutouts, backgrounds, emojis, text, and effects—not generating a complete wallpaper from a text prompt.

Compatibility, price, and privacy

Compatibility

The most important update for anyone relying on the 2025 article is the system requirement. The current App Store listing says Deco requires iOS 26.0 or later on iPhone. The launch requirement of iOS 18.2 or later is historical and should not be treated as the requirement for the current release.

App Store compatibility metadata also lists macOS 26 or later on an Apple-silicon Mac and visionOS 26 or later for Apple Vision. However, the listing labels Deco “Only for iPhone,” so that metadata should not be read as proof of a native Mac or Vision Pro experience with equivalent wallpaper behavior. There is no confirmed Android version, and the dossier provides no clear evidence of a native iPad experience.

Price

The U.S. storefront checked for this article shows Deco at $2.99. The launch coverage described that price as a one-time purchase with no ads and no subscription. Regional pricing may differ, and App Store prices or purchase terms can change, so treat $2.99 as a time-sensitive U.S. price rather than a permanent global guarantee.

Privacy

Apple’s App Store privacy section says the developer reports “Data Not Collected.” Apple also states that the developer’s privacy responses have not been verified by Apple. That is a useful disclosure, not an independent privacy audit. Anyone concerned about imported photos should also review the developer’s privacy policy linked from the App Store page.

Where Deco is most useful

Deco’s strongest selling point is focus. On iPhone, making a playful wallpaper from a photo can otherwise involve a photo editor, a cutout tool, a background source, and several export steps. Deco brings those jobs into one wallpaper-oriented canvas.

It should appeal to people making:

  • Photo collages centered on a person, pet, or favorite object
  • Seasonal lock screens
  • Color-coordinated home screens
  • Emoji-heavy or sticker-based designs
  • Fan-art-style compositions
  • Minimal wallpapers built from custom gradients or colors

The app is also a better match for someone who prefers a small one-time purchase over a general design suite with account requirements, premium asset boundaries, or recurring subscription prompts.

Important limitations

  • iOS 26 is now required: Readers on older iOS versions may be unable to install or update the current build.
  • iOS still controls the final presentation: The clock, widgets, icons, and bottom swipe area can obscure or compete with parts of a design.
  • Lock screens and home screens are different canvases: Fine detail may work on a lock screen but become noisy behind app icons.
  • Cutouts are not guaranteed to be perfect: Hair, fur, transparent objects, and cluttered backgrounds can challenge subject separation.
  • It is not professional design software: Readers needing advanced typography, deep layer management, masking, color management, or precision layout tools may outgrow it.
  • It is not an animated-wallpaper tool: The supplied information describes exported image compositions, not animated or video wallpapers.
  • Image Playground is no longer a current feature: Do not buy Deco expecting the launch-era generative-image workflow.
  • The review sample is small: The U.S. listing shows a 4.8 rating from 21 ratings—positive, but too limited to establish broad reliability.
  • Accessibility information is limited: The App Store says the developer has not indicated supported accessibility features. That is not proof that particular features are inaccessible, but it means no broad accessibility claim can be made from the listing.

Deco compared with the alternatives

Apple’s built-in wallpaper tools

Apple’s tools are free, already installed, and tightly integrated with lock-screen widgets, clock styling, Focus modes, and wallpaper pairing. They are the better choice if you only want to select a photo, color, or standard wallpaper and configure the lock screen. Deco’s advantage is freeform sticker and object composition.

Canva

Canva is a broader design platform with templates, text, graphics, and cross-platform editing. It offers more general-purpose capability, but that can make it less immediate than a dedicated wallpaper canvas. Account requirements and paid-plan boundaries may also matter depending on the assets and features you use.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Adobe Express

Adobe Express is a better fit for readers already working in Adobe’s ecosystem or who want more general template-based design tools. For a quick, playful iPhone wallpaper, it may be more software than necessary.

Picsart

Picsart places more emphasis on photo effects, stickers, and creative image editing. It is broader than Deco, but readers should expect a more expansive creative ecosystem and potentially more premium feature gates or subscription-oriented offers.

Deko

Do not confuse Deco with Deko, an older abstract-pattern wallpaper app. Deko’s official site describes a swipe-based generator for abstract images and patterns, with saving and sharing tools. It is a different product and is more relevant to someone seeking procedural pattern generation than photo-and-sticker composition.

Who should buy Deco?

Consider it if you have a compatible iPhone, enjoy making designs from your own photos and emojis, want integrated sticker cutouts, and prefer a focused one-time-purchase app over a subscription design suite.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Skip it if you use Android, need iPad support as a central workflow, want text-prompt AI generation, require professional design controls, want a huge catalog of finished wallpapers, need animated backgrounds, or simply want Apple’s basic wallpaper customization.

Deco’s reported Swift Student Challenge 2025 win is an interesting part of its background, as noted by both the App Store listing and the launch coverage, but it is not a substitute for evaluating whether its workflow fits your needs.
