As of November 3, 2025, Kristi Linauer’s deep teal grasscloth project was visibly underway rather than finished: the main bedroom work had advanced across three walls, the bathroom-door wall was in progress, and installation had begun in the adjoining foyer.

Its value is in documenting how the material was behaving at difficult transitions while the work was still active. The completed bedroom surfaces
The three finished bedroom surfaces form the visual base for the project: the headboard wall, the wall at the exterior door, and the dresser wall. Linauer’s wording identifies them as complete, but the report does not provide measurements, installation times, seam counts, or a technical assessment of adhesion. The wall containing the bathroom door was the next bedroom section in progress. Linauer singled out a strip on the left side of the bathroom-door trim that was about five inches wide. She found that piece difficult to position without either shifting it or having it pull away from the preceding piece.
A five-inch remnant beside trim leaves little visual and physical margin. In this report, the difficulty is not described as a general failure of the material; it is a localized problem at a narrow edge where the new piece had to meet an existing piece and the door casing. The account does not specify the adhesive, substrate condition, smoothing tool, drying time, or a corrective procedure, so those details should not be inferred.
For readers following a similar project, this is the most concrete warning in the update: broad wall runs and narrow returns do not present the same installation problem. The narrow return was the part Linauer had to watch for movement and separation while fitting it around the trim.

The breaker-box cutout required repeated attempts
Another difficult point was a piece cut around the breaker box. Linauer reported that it took several attempts for that piece to lie flat near the box. The post does not say that the box was removed, altered, or covered; it only records the repeated attempts needed to get the surrounding wallpaper to settle.

Foyer installation had begun, but the hardest doorway was still ahead
Work had started in the foyer adjoining the bedroom. Linauer described the foyer as small, yet complicated by multiple doorways. She had not tackled the difficult piece around the closet doorway at the time of the update.
That combination—limited wall area and several openings—explains why a small foyer was not automatically a quick finish. Each doorway interrupts the uninterrupted surface available for a panel, and the closet opening remained an identified task rather than a completed detail. The report leaves the foyer in an intentionally unfinished state, so it cannot support a claim about its final appearance or completion date.

The continuity decision: grasscloth and wainscoting through the foyer
Linauer chose to continue both the grasscloth and the wainscoting treatment from the bedroom into the foyer. She believed that carrying the same treatment through the adjoining area made the overall space look and feel larger and more open.
That is her visual impression, not a measured change in floor area, wall dimensions, light levels, or sight-line geometry. The source does not provide before-and-after measurements or an independent evaluation of perceived spaciousness. The defensible conclusion is narrower: she preferred the unified treatment and felt it improved the connection between the rooms.
This choice also clarifies the role of the foyer in the project. It was not being handled as an unrelated small hallway with a different finish. The wainscoting and grasscloth were being used as a shared language between spaces, with the hoped-for benefit of visual continuity.
A darker-looking panel and the limits of visual certainty
One wallpaper panel appeared darker than the others to Linauer. She thought lighting might account for the difference and remained pleased with the overall appearance. The post presents that explanation as her belief; it does not establish lighting as the verified cause.
That qualification matters because natural-looking materials can be judged differently from one photograph, wall position, or time of day to another. Linauer specifically valued grasscloth’s imperfections, texture, and depth as part of its appeal. The darker-looking panel therefore belongs in two categories at once: it is a real observation in the progress report and an unresolved explanation. Nothing in the source confirms whether the appearance came from illumination, the material itself, viewing angle, or another condition. An earlier planning entry dated August 18, 2025, explains several constraints that shaped the installation. Linauer said wallpaper availability was limited by a specific dye lot. She expected to raise the wainscoting by about three inches in the suite so that the available wallpaper lengths would work. She was also considering how to prepare the walls for ridges left by painted stripes.
These planning notes show that the finished dimensions were not being selected in a vacuum. The proposed wainscoting adjustment was tied to making the available lengths usable, while the painted stripe ridges raised a wall-preparation question before hanging began. The later progress report does not state whether every preparation option was used or whether the three-inch adjustment was completed exactly as planned.
