How to verify the original four concepts
- Open the publisher’s article page. Confirm that the page still shows the Architecture & Design masthead, Miletic’s byline and the 22 December 2023 date.
- Obtain the complete, authorised text. If the page is truncated, paywalled or loaded dynamically, use the publisher’s own access options rather than an unauthorised copy.

- Which direction does the patio face, and when will it receive direct sun?
- Does the concept provide a response to rain, wind or intense heat, or does it assume a sheltered site?
- Are any materials or finishes described as suitable for the expected exposure?
- Will seasonal changes alter how usable the space is?
Fit with the available space
- What are the patio’s actual length, width and clear height?
- Where are doors, windows, steps, drains, service lines and property boundaries?
- Does the arrangement preserve circulation between the house and garden?
- Can furniture, planting or other elements be added without making the area difficult to use?
Material and upkeep
- Which surfaces, structures and furnishings does the idea require?
