Yes. Frida Kahlo enrolled in Mexico City’s National Preparatory School (Escuela Nacional Preparatoria) in 1922, intending to study medicine. A museum timeline records a temporary interruption to her attendance in 1924, but the sources cited here do not establish whether she graduated or the exact date she last attended.

What school did Frida Kahlo attend?

Kahlo entered the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria in Mexico City in 1922. The Philadelphia Museum of Art also identifies the school and says she hoped to study medicine. The Museo Frida Kahlo timeline identifies a 1922 report card from the school, a surviving record that supports her enrollment.

She was among a very small number of girls at the school. The Museo Frida Kahlo describes 35 girls among 2,000 boys; the Philadelphia Museum of Art gives the figure as 35 girls among about 2,000 students. Those accounts use different denominators, so they should not be treated as identical figures.

How long did she attend?

The Museo Frida Kahlo timeline says Kahlo joined the student group Los Cachuchas in 1923. It records a temporary interruption in 1924, when her mother, worried about security amid an uprising against President Álvaro Obregón, did not allow her to go to school or attend classes.

The timeline dates Kahlo’s serious traffic accident to September 17, 1925, after the recorded school interruption. The chronology therefore does not support saying that the accident caused her initial departure from school.

Did Frida Kahlo graduate?

The cited accounts establish that Kahlo enrolled and that her attendance was interrupted, but they do not state whether she graduated or give her precise final attendance date. It is safest to say that she went to school, not that she completed the program or earned a qualification.

Why was her schooling significant?

Kahlo’s education placed her in an academically ambitious setting and connected her to peers through Los Cachuchas. Mexico’s Secretariat of Culture says the education and ideas she encountered at the school contributed to the development of her political outlook and later activism. That context adds to her biography without implying that she completed her studies.
