DRACO ELASTOPROOF is a solvent-free, two-component flexible waterproof coating for concrete. It is based on epoxy-polyurethane resins and is specified by the manufacturer for concrete structures such as bridge decks, including situations where hot-laid bituminous surfacing will be installed above the waterproofing. The name “permanent sealing” describes a durable design objective, not an unconditional lifetime guarantee: service life depends on substrate quality, designed thickness, detailing, exposure, workmanship and maintenance.
The documented kit contains 12 kg of Component A and 2 kg of Component B. DRACO gives an indicative consumption of 1.35 kg/m² for each millimetre of cured thickness. That figure can support estimating, but it cannot determine a project quantity until the engineer or specification sets the required thickness and allowances for preparation, edges, waste and site conditions.

What DRACO ELASTOPROOF is—and what “permanent” should mean
ELASTOPROOF is a protective membrane coating rather than a cementitious waterproofing slurry. DRACO Italiana SpA describes it as a flexible, solvent-free, two-component system made from epoxy-polyurethane resins. The two components are supplied separately and combined immediately before application according to the current technical documentation.
Concrete is porous and can develop shrinkage, thermal and structural cracks. A flexible resin coating is intended to form a continuous barrier while accommodating limited movement better than a rigid film. The technical sheet identifies crack-bridging ability, adhesion to concrete, resistance to freeze-thaw cycles and de-icing salts, hydrocarbon resistance, abrasion resistance and thermal resistance as manufacturer-stated properties. Those statements describe the product’s intended performance; they are not an independent test report or a guarantee that every bridge, deck or building will remain watertight indefinitely.

For design purposes, read “permanent sealing” as a requirement for a robust, maintainable waterproofing assembly. The coating still needs sound concrete, correctly treated joints and penetrations, sufficient thickness, compatible surfacing and inspection. A membrane cannot compensate for active structural movement, leaking joints or unsound concrete that remains beneath it.
Where the system is intended to be used
Concrete structures and bridge decks
DRACO specifically lists waterproofing of concrete structures and bridge decks. On a deck, the coating can serve as the waterproofing layer before hot-laid bituminous surfacing, provided the project specification confirms the complete build-up, temperature limits, bond requirements and traffic loading. The manufacturer also states compatibility with asphalt concrete.

Exposure to water, salts and hydrocarbons
The manufacturer’s technical sheet names freeze-thaw and de-icing-salt resistance, hydrocarbon resistance, abrasion resistance and thermal resistance. These characteristics are relevant to decks, ramps, parking structures and other concrete exposed to road spray or vehicle fluids. They should be checked against the actual concentration, temperature, traffic and cleaning regime on the project; a general product description does not replace a chemical-resistance schedule or structural waterproofing design.

Horizontal and vertical surfaces
Application tools vary with orientation. The technical sheet describes brush or roller application on vertical surfaces and a trowel or squeegee on horizontal surfaces. The selected tool must still produce the specified wet and cured thickness without pinholes, runs or missed areas.

Worked coverage examples
To make a first estimate, multiply the design thickness in millimetres by 1.35 kg/m². Then divide the 14 kg nominal kit mass by that result. The following examples are arithmetic illustrations, not recommended thicknesses:

How to prepare concrete before coating
Preparation is the part of the system that most directly controls adhesion. DRACO’s technical sheet calls for removal of loose or contaminating material, sound concrete and repair of visible irregularities. Translate those requirements into a documented inspection rather than treating cleaning as a quick wash.
- Expose sound concrete: remove laitance, dust, friable zones, old coatings and any material that can prevent adhesion.
- Eliminate contamination: oil, grease, hydrocarbons, curing compounds, salts and other residues must be dealt with using a method compatible with the substrate and the project’s waste controls.
- Repair defects: fill or repair visible irregularities, honeycombing, voids and damaged edges with a compatible repair system before membrane application.
- Check movement details: identify construction joints, expansion joints, cracks, drains, upstands and penetrations. The membrane layer alone does not replace designed joint systems or movement seals.
- Confirm readiness: the applicator should record that the surface is sound and suitable under the current technical documentation before mixing material.
The available product information does not establish a universal moisture limit, primer requirement, surface-profile value or cure interval. Those details can vary with the edition of the technical documentation, substrate and build-up, so the current DRACO instructions and project specification control the work.

Mixing and application sequence
Use the product’s current technical sheet, safety information and the project method statement at the site. The documented sequence is:
- Plan the area and batch size. Confirm the designed thickness, access, weather and the quantity that can be placed within the material’s working period. Do not split components by guesswork when the manufacturer requires a complete kit or a specified ratio.
- Prepare the substrate. Complete cleaning, repairs and defect treatment. Protect adjacent finishes, drains and traffic areas from uncured resin.
- Mix each component separately. The technical sheet instructs the user to mix both components before combining them. This step re-disperses settled material and produces a uniform starting condition.
- Combine the components. Add and mix the two components using the method and equipment stated in the current documentation. Scrape container sides and bottom so unmixed material is not carried into the application.
- Apply to vertical concrete. Use a brush or roller as described by DRACO. Work systematically in fields, maintaining a wet edge and checking that the film reaches the specified thickness without pinholes or runs.
- Apply to horizontal concrete. Use a trowel or squeegee as described in the technical sheet. Spread evenly and detail changes in plane, edges, drains and penetrations according to the project method.
- Inspect the finished membrane. Look for missed areas, pinholes, blisters, contamination, weak edges and thickness shortfalls. Repair defects with the approved procedure before placing protection or asphalt.
- Release the next layer only when permitted. The coating must meet the current documentation’s cure and over-coating conditions. Do not assume that a surface that feels dry is ready for hot-laid bitumen or traffic.
Because the current product documents do not establish a single pot life, curing time or application-temperature range, those values should be taken from the current product documents supplied for the project rather than copied from an older data sheet.

- the required membrane thickness and any protection layer;
- the cured-state release criteria before paving;
- the asphalt temperature and placement method permitted over the membrane;
- bond, shear and skid-resistance requirements for the complete deck build-up;
- how joints, kerbs, drains, parapets and transitions are waterproofed;
- inspection and repair procedures before the surfacing hides the coating.
For a bridge deck, coordinate the waterproofing specification with structural movement, drainage and traffic staging. “Compatible with asphalt concrete” is a useful manufacturer statement, but it is not a project-specific approval for every jurisdiction or bridge design.
What the published claims do—and do not—establish
The Rev. 2-25 English technical sheet and DRACO product information establish the product description, package, application context and manufacturer-stated properties. They do not provide an independent service-life study, a market-wide statistical survey, or approval in every country. They also do not prove that one thickness suits all cracks, hydrostatic pressures or traffic classes.

Before specifying the coating, request the complete current technical and safety documentation for the delivery region. Verify local supply, language, regulatory status, substrate limitations, test classifications and technical support. The DRACO address identified in the product material is in Tribiano, Italy; that fact does not establish availability or approval elsewhere.
Do not confuse ELASTOPROOF with ElaProof
Search results can mix the names ELASTOPROOF and ElaProof, but they are not the same system. DRACO ELASTOPROOF is the two-component epoxy-polyurethane concrete coating described above. ElaProof is a separate Finnish product family from Build Care Oy, described in its own material as a one-component, isocyanate-free product for a different range of building applications. Formulation, packaging, preparation, application and approvals for one family cannot be transferred to the other.
When ordering, writing a specification or reviewing a submittal, identify the manufacturer, exact product name, component arrangement and document revision. A similar-sounding label is not sufficient evidence of equivalence.
Project checklist for a durable sealing system
- Is the substrate concrete and demonstrably sound after cleaning?
- Has the design set a thickness rather than relying on a generic coverage estimate?
- Are cracks, joints, penetrations, drains and edges detailed separately?
- Are the correct Component A and Component B supplied in the documented ratio?
- Has the applicator mixed each component as directed before combining them?
- Will the selected brush, roller, trowel or squeegee achieve uniform coverage on the actual geometry?
- Are temperature, moisture, curing and over-coating limits taken from the current technical sheet?
- For asphalt overlays, are paving temperature, bond and release criteria written into the method statement?
- Will inspection records document repairs and membrane acceptance before concealment?
- Has regional approval, supply and technical support been confirmed with DRACO or its authorized channel?
Bottom line for architects, contractors and owners
DRACO ELASTOPROOF is a documented two-component flexible coating for waterproofing concrete, with named use on bridge decks before hot-laid bituminous surfacing. Its 12 kg plus 2 kg kit and indicative 1.35 kg/m²-per-millimetre consumption make early quantity planning possible. The permanent result, however, comes from the entire assembly: sound concrete, disciplined preparation, correctly mixed components, designed thickness, careful detailing, inspection and a compatible overlying surface. Treat the manufacturer’s resistance and asphalt-compatibility statements as specification inputs, then confirm the exact project requirements and current regional documentation before work begins.
