What the Dyson AM07 is

“Bladeless” is a description of the visible outlet, not a promise that the fan is silent or incapable of causing harm. Air still moves through an electric motor and an internal impeller, so there is mechanical and aerodynamic noise. The useful questions are how much air it moves, how loud it is at a particular setting, and whether its controls fit your room.
Verdict: is the AM07 powerful and quiet enough?
On paper, the AM07 has substantial airflow for a household tower fan. Dyson Technology Limited’s 2018 European product-information declaration gives a maximum fan flow of 30.0 m³/min, a maximum air velocity of 3.0 m/sec and a 56.0 W input. The same declaration lists a fan sound-power level of 64 dB(A). A separate Dyson commerce page lists maximum-setting airflow as 500 L/s; because that page’s market and measurement context are not clear in the available material, treat it as a separate listing rather than merging it with the declaration.

Dyson’s regional feature page says the AM07 is “60% quieter” than the AM02 and uses “10% less power” than the AM02. Both are Dyson claims. The available material does not provide an independent laboratory method, speed setting, room condition or third-party measurement to verify those percentages. The most defensible conclusion is that the AM07 has credible manufacturer-supplied airflow and power figures and a specific quietness claim, but there is no independent evidence here for a promised room-cooling result or a guaranteed nighttime noise level.

How quiet is the Dyson AM07?
What Dyson actually claims
Dyson attributes the AM07’s lower noise to “streamlined air channels for reduced airflow turbulence” and states that it is 60% quieter than AM02. This identifies the comparison model and the claimed design reason, but it does not tell you the decibel level at each of the AM07’s ten? settings, nor does it describe microphone distance or background noise. Do not turn the percentage into a promise that the fan will be inaudible beside a bed.
What the 64 dB(A) figure means
The 64 dB(A) number is a sound-power level in the EU declaration. Sound power describes the acoustic energy emitted by the appliance; sound pressure at your chair or pillow also depends on distance, walls, furnishings and other noise. A phone app reading in a room cannot be compared directly with a declared sound-power value without a defined method.
How to judge it in your room
- Use the lowest speed that gives the air movement you need, especially while sleeping.
- Keep the intake and loop outlet clear of curtains, bedding and furniture; turbulence and rattling can make any fan seem louder.
- Place the tower on a solid, level surface. A vibrating shelf can add noise that is not produced by the motor itself.
- Listen at your normal seating or sleeping distance rather than directly beside the loop.
These checks help you assess a particular room, but they are not an independent test of Dyson’s 60% statement.
Is the AM07 powerful enough to cool a room?
A fan cools people mainly by moving air across skin; it does not operate like an air conditioner that removes heat from the room. The AM07’s declared 30.0 m³/min maximum flow and 3.0 m/sec maximum air velocity indicate a strong air stream near the outlet, while oscillation spreads that stream over a wider area. Dyson’s separate commerce material lists 500 L/s at the maximum setting. Although airflow values can be expressed in different units, the available listing does not state enough about its market, test setup or relationship to the 2018 declaration to treat the figures as one verified test result. Quote each figure with its source and context when comparing listings.
Positioning for useful airflow
- Place the AM07 where its loop has a clear path into the occupied part of the room.
- Keep the base stable and leave the intake and outlet unobstructed.
- Start with oscillation off to aim the stream at one person, then enable the up-to-70-degree sweep when several people need airflow.
- Close the sleep timer only after selecting the speed and oscillation you want; the timer controls shutoff, not a change to room temperature.

Remote-controlled functions
The remote handles speed selection, oscillation and the sleep timer. Dyson’s manual specifically states that oscillation and the sleep timer cannot be operated without the remote. This matters if you buy a used AM07 without its controller or if the remote is misplaced: the fan may still run from its on-machine control, but you cannot assume every feature remains available.
Using oscillation
Oscillation moves the tower through its specified arc so the airflow reaches a wider section of the room. It is useful when people are seated in different positions; aiming the fan at one person can feel stronger and avoids sweeping air toward an unoccupied wall. The exact angle is a maximum specification, not a guarantee that every setting uses the full arc.

Setting the timer
The sleep timer range is 15 minutes to 9 hours. Select the desired duration with the remote after choosing the operating speed. A timer is a convenience feature, not evidence of lower power use during the timed period: while the fan is running, consumption depends on its operating setting and electrical conditions.
Can you use an AM07 without its remote?
You can use the fan’s basic operation from the machine, but the manual says oscillation and the sleep timer require the remote. That makes the controller part of the practical specification rather than an optional extra.
Dyson’s US support listing identified an Iron remote for AM07, part number 965824-02, at $29.99 and marked it out of stock when that page was surfaced. Price and availability change, and the listing is region-specific; verify compatibility and stock directly with Dyson before ordering. Do not assume a remote for another Dyson fan will pair with the AM07.
Cleaning and maintenance
Dyson’s support instruction is deliberately simple: “Just use a dry or damp cloth to wipe the loop clean – no need for any detergents or polishes.” Unplug the fan before wiping it, keep liquid away from electrical openings, and allow any damp surface to dry before reconnecting power.

- Switch the fan off and disconnect the plug.
- Use a dry cloth for ordinary dust, or a cloth lightly dampened with water for marks.
- Wipe the loop and accessible exterior surfaces without spraying liquid directly onto the machine.
- Do not use detergent, polish, abrasive pads or solvent-based cleaners.
- Reconnect only when the exterior is dry.
The manual directs owners not to perform maintenance or repairs beyond its instructions or Dyson’s advice. If the fan develops an electrical fault, unusual burning smell or persistent mechanical noise, stop using it and seek support instead of opening the housing.
Power consumption and running cost
The 2018 EU declaration lists 56.0 W input and 0.2 W standby consumption. A 56 W load running continuously for one hour uses 0.056 kWh; actual use varies with the selected setting and supply conditions. To estimate your own cost, multiply the fan’s kilowatt draw by hours used and by your electricity tariff:
cost = (watts ÷ 1000) × hours × price per kWh
For example, substitute your local tariff rather than a generic internet rate. Dyson’s “10% less power” statement is a comparison with AM02 from the manufacturer, not a promise that every AM07 setup will draw exactly 10% less electricity.
Size, placement and everyday practicality
At 1007 mm high and 2.85 kg, the AM07 has the tall, narrow form associated with a tower fan. Its height can put the outlet near seated torso level, while the relatively low listed weight makes it easier to move between rooms than a heavy pedestal unit. The figures come from Dyson product material; measure your intended floor area and check clearance around the base before buying.

- For a bedroom: confirm that the remote is included and test whether the lowest useful speed is comfortable at your bed distance.
- For a desk or office: aim the non-oscillating stream at the occupant if the tower’s arc would otherwise blow papers or distract nearby people.
- For a shared living room: use oscillation to distribute airflow, accepting that a sweeping stream feels less intense at any single seat.
- For storage: keep the magnetized remote with the machine so the timer and oscillation controls are not lost.
What is established—and what is not
The available official material establishes the AM07’s stated features, dimensions and declared electrical, airflow and sound figures. It does not provide an independent comparison with current tower fans, a measured room-cooling result, a third-party noise test, a current retail price, a warranty term or verified availability in every market.

That distinction is important when reading “review” language. A manufacturer specification can tell you what was declared or claimed; it cannot by itself prove that one model is quieter than every current competitor, cools a particular room to a particular temperature, or costs less to run in your tariff.
How to compare the AM07 with another tower fan
Use the same evidence standard for both products. A meaningful comparison should include:

Do not award a winner solely because one listing uses a larger-looking airflow number or a percentage such as “60% quieter.” Matching units, methods and conditions matters more than headline wording.
Common problems and sensible fixes
The fan runs, but oscillation does not work
Check that you are using the AM07 remote and that its batteries are installed correctly. The manual says oscillation cannot be operated from the machine alone. If the remote is missing or defective, a compatible replacement is required.
The timer cannot be selected
Use the remote; the timer is not available without it. If the remote is present, replace its batteries and point it toward the fan. Do not open the fan to bypass the control system.
The airflow feels weak
Verify that the intake and loop are free of dust, curtains and furniture. Try a higher speed and disable oscillation temporarily to aim the stream directly at the occupant. A fan moves air but does not lower the room’s heat like an air conditioner, so an unchanged room temperature is not proof of a fault.
The fan sounds louder than expected
Move it to a solid, level surface, clear obstructions and check for loose objects nearby. Compare sound at the same speed and distance you normally use. The published 64 dB(A) value is a sound-power declaration, not a promise of a particular bedside reading.
There is a fault smell or electrical problem
Switch off, unplug and stop using the appliance. Follow Dyson’s support guidance or the manual; do not attempt repairs beyond those instructions.
Who should buy the Dyson AM07?
- Choose it when: you want a tall tower format, remote-controlled oscillation, a long adjustable sleep timer and a simple wipe-clean exterior, and you are comfortable evaluating manufacturer claims rather than relying on an independent test.
- Think twice when: you need verified third-party noise measurements, a guaranteed room-cooling capacity, a current low price, or full controls on the appliance itself without a remote.
- Before ordering: confirm that the listing is specifically AM07, check the regional voltage and plug, verify that the remote is included, and review local support and warranty terms.
The AM07’s strongest case is its combination of declared airflow, compact tower proportions and remote features. Its weakest point for a data-driven buyer is not necessarily the design, but the lack of independent measurements in the evidence available here. Treat the 60% quieter and 10% lower-power statements as Dyson’s claims, use the 2018 declaration for the stated technical figures, and judge the final purchase against your room, distance and control requirements.
