There is no universal winner between Dyson and Shark cordless vacuums. In the most directly comparable published test, the Dyson V15 Detect cleans several carpet and pet-hair categories better and weighs much less as a stick vacuum. The Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H counters with a larger bin, a flexible wand and an odor-neutralizing cartridge. Your floors, furniture, reach requirements and tolerance for carrying weight should decide the purchase—not the logo.

This guide uses the model-specific RTINGS comparison of the Dyson V15 Detect and Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H for measured figures. Newer products, regional versions and retail bundles can differ, so treat the findings as a comparison of these exact SKUs rather than a verdict on every Dyson or Shark vacuum.
The short answer: which one should you buy?
Choose the Dyson V15 Detect if you want the lighter stick, stronger results in the cited carpet and pet-hair tests, a broader attachment package and a slightly longer listed maximum runtime. Choose the Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H if you value a larger dust bin, a wand that bends for cleaning under furniture, a sturdier feel or odor control more than minimum carry weight.
#1 Best Overall
- Powerful and intelligent for whole-home deep cleaning. Reveals invisible dust.
- 100% more power.¹ 60 minutes of run time.²
- Power trigger helps maximize energy efficiency, only using power where you need it.
- Intelligently adapts power based on debris detected and floor type. LCD screen shows total picked-up particles on-screen as you clean.³ Also displays power mode, maintenance alerts, and remaining run time to the second.
- 2 Advanced cleaner heads. The Fluffy Optic cleaner head reveals invisible dust. Gentle on hard floors but tough on dirt. The Digital Motorbar cleaner head deep cleans all floor types and de-tangles long hair and pet hair as you clean.
Those recommendations are conditional. RTINGS gave both models the same listed hard-floor and crack scores, while the Dyson led in high-pile carpet, low-pile carpet, pet hair and pet hair on furniture. The Shark was not a poor cleaner; it simply traded some of those test results for different handling and capacity advantages.
What exactly is being compared?
The names “Dyson” and “Shark” cover many generations and regional packages. The numerical comparison below applies to the Dyson V15 Detect and Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H tested by RTINGS. A V15 sold in another country may include different tools or battery labeling, and an IZ862H bundle may change over time.
RTINGS’ broader explainer, “Dyson vs Shark Vacuums: Bought, Tested, and Compared”, is useful background, but it does not turn every model in either range into an interchangeable product. Always match the complete model code when checking parts, warranty terms or included accessories.

Core specifications at a glance
| Specification | Dyson V15 Detect | Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total stick weight | 6.46 lb (2.93 kg), RTINGS measurement | 8.73 lb (3.96 kg), RTINGS measurement | The Dyson is 1.07 kg lighter to carry as a complete stick vacuum. |
| Weight in hand | 3.70 lb (1.68 kg) | 3.57 lb (1.62 kg) | Handheld balance tells a different story: the Shark was slightly lighter in RTINGS’ measurement. |
| Dust-bin capacity | 0.45 L | 0.65 L | The Shark holds 0.20 L more before emptying. |
| Maximum runtime listed by RTINGS | 75 minutes | 63 minutes | A page maximum, not a guaranteed whole-home runtime. |
| Minimum runtime listed by RTINGS | 8 minutes | 12 minutes | Short high-power operation can reverse the maximum-runtime ranking. |
| Recharge time listed by RTINGS | 231 minutes | 232 minutes | Both require roughly four hours for a full recharge. |
| User-serviceable battery | Yes, according to RTINGS | Yes, according to RTINGS | Confirm local battery availability and the exact variant before ordering. |
| Replacement filter identifier listed by RTINGS | 970013-02 | XFFKIZ700 | These identifiers are model-specific; do not assume compatibility with another version. |
RTINGS’ weights and capacities are reported measurements for these products, not specifications that apply to every vacuum in either brand. Dyson states that runtime depends on model and use; suction level, floor type, debris load and automatic control all change the result.
Cleaning performance by surface
The most useful head-to-head evidence is RTINGS’ category scoring. The scores are part of RTINGS’ testing system and are not percentages. Dyson is listed first in every pair below.
| RTINGS test category | Dyson V15 Detect | Shark Stratos IZ862H | Result in that test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hard-floor pickup | 8.0 | 8.0 | Tie |
| High-pile carpet pickup | 8.0 | 7.0 | Dyson higher |
| Low-pile carpet pickup | 7.5 | 7.0 | Dyson higher |
| Pet-hair pickup | 9.5 | 7.5 | Dyson higher |
| Pet hair on furniture | 8.0 | 7.0 | Dyson higher |
| Crack pickup | 8.0 | 8.0 | Tie |
Hard floors
Both models scored 8.0 in RTINGS’ hard-floor category. That means the cited test does not establish a cleaning advantage for either machine on that surface. Real results can still vary with the floorhead, debris size, suction mode and whether grit is packed into plank gaps or grout.

Carpet
The V15 scored 8.0 on high-pile carpet versus 7.0 for the Stratos, and 7.5 versus 7.0 on low-pile carpet. The difference is meaningful for homes dominated by rugs or wall-to-wall carpet, but it is not a promise that every V15 bundle or every carpet will reproduce the same gap.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Pet hair
Pet hair is where the measured separation is largest: 9.5 for the Dyson versus 7.5 for the Shark in RTINGS’ pet-hair category. For pet hair on furniture, the scores were 8.0 and 7.0. RTINGS also notes that the V15 includes a turbo brush suited to furniture pet hair. If sofas, stairs and pet beds are a major part of your routine, the Dyson’s tool range and those test results favor it.
Floorheads, tools and everyday reach
Dyson V15 Detect package
RTINGS describes the V15 as having a wider range of attachments, including the turbo brush used for furniture pet hair. The exact retail bundle still matters: accessories can vary by country and seller, so inspect the contents for the SKU you are ordering rather than relying on a generic V15 image.
Shark Stratos IZ862H package
The Stratos’ defining handling feature is its flexible wand. It lets the main tube bend while the floorhead stays on the floor, which can reduce kneeling when reaching under beds or sofas. The model also includes an odor-neutralizing cartridge. That cartridge is a convenience feature, not evidence that the vacuum removes more dust or allergens than the Dyson in every situation.
Under-furniture maneuvering
If low furniture is the obstacle you encounter most often, the Shark’s flexible wand can be more useful than a lighter straight-stick design. The Dyson can still reach under furniture with its standard articulation and tools, but the two systems place your wrist and elbow in different positions. Try the motion in a showroom if wrist comfort is a deciding factor.

Weight, balance and stair cleaning
The Dyson is substantially lighter as a complete stick: 2.93 kg versus 3.96 kg in RTINGS’ measurements. That 1.03 kg difference is noticeable when carrying the vacuum between floors, cleaning curtains or holding it away from your body for prolonged passes.

Handheld measurements reverse the order slightly. RTINGS lists 1.68 kg in hand for the V15 and 1.62 kg for the Stratos. In other words, removing the wand and floorhead does not preserve the same advantage. People who mostly use a handheld for cars, shelves or stairs should judge the detached configuration separately from the full stick.
A practical test is to hold each machine at shoulder height for 30 seconds, then aim the nozzle at a stair riser. The lighter full-stick Dyson may reduce fatigue during floor cleaning, while the Shark’s marginally lower handheld measurement may feel steadier for short spot jobs. Neither number predicts comfort for every body shape.
Dust-bin size and emptying
The Stratos has the larger listed bin: 0.65 L versus 0.45 L for the V15. That extra 0.20 L can mean fewer interruptions in a large home, during shedding season or when vacuuming a workshop area. It also means a potentially heavier machine once the bin is full.

Bin volume is not the same as usable capacity. Fine powder can reach a fill line quickly, and long hair can occupy space before the bin is geometrically full. Empty both containers before the debris reaches the manufacturer’s limit, especially if suction drops or the filter-warning indicator appears.
Check the release action at the retailer or read the manual for your regional package. A clean, sealed emptying process matters if anyone in the household is sensitive to dust; the presence of a larger bin does not by itself indicate lower exposure.
Runtime, power modes and recharge time
RTINGS lists a 75-minute maximum and 8-minute minimum for the V15 Detect, compared with 63 minutes maximum and 12 minutes minimum for the Stratos IZ862H. It also lists recharge times of 231 and 232 minutes respectively.

- 2 Advanced cleaner heads and 4 attachments to clean up high, down low, and everywhere in between. Plus wall dock and charger.
These are test-page figures across operating conditions, not a promise that either machine will clean for its maximum number on one charge. High-power modes consume energy quickly. Floor resistance, brush agitation, debris and battery age all change the result. A vacuum that automatically raises suction on dirty patches can show a shorter real-world session than its headline maximum.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTechRadar specifically notes that adaptive Auto modes complicate runtime comparisons because suction and battery consumption vary with dirt and flooring. Plan cleaning around the mode you actually use: compare like-for-like low, medium or boost settings rather than comparing only the largest number printed on a product page.
Both models take about four hours to recharge from empty. If you clean a large house in one session, investigate whether a second compatible battery is available in your market and whether the charger or wall mount supports your preferred storage location.
Maintenance, filters and replacement parts
Battery service
RTINGS lists user-serviceable batteries for both the V15 Detect and Stratos IZ862H. “User-serviceable” does not mean every battery sold online fits every regional edition. Match the complete model code, voltage and connector before purchase, and follow the manufacturer’s procedure rather than forcing a third-party pack into the housing.
Filters
The filter identifiers listed by RTINGS are 970013-02 for the Dyson V15 Detect and XFFKIZ700 for the Shark Stratos IZ862H. Verify the code against your vacuum’s label and the seller’s compatibility list. A filter that looks identical can have a different seal or airflow rating.
Routine care
- Empty the bin before debris reaches its marked limit.
- Remove hair from the brush roll and inspect end caps for wrapped fibers.
- Wash only filters designated washable by the manual, then let them dry completely before reinstalling.
- Keep air inlets clear; a blocked inlet can mimic a failing battery or motor.
- Store the charger and battery where extreme heat and moisture are avoided.
Replacement frequency depends on dust load and cleaning habits. Neither the RTINGS comparison nor the cited manufacturer pages establishes a universal annual parts cost, so budget using local filter and battery prices for your exact SKU.

Price, bundles and warranty: what is—and is not—known
Comparable current local prices, exact retail bundles and matching market-specific warranty terms were not established for the V15 and IZ862H packages in this comparison. Prices can change by country, promotion and included tools. Do not use a price from one region to declare a value winner in another.
Before checkout, record the seller’s complete model code and compare these items:
- Included floorheads, crevice tools, dusting brushes and charging hardware.
- Whether a second battery, wall dock or accessory bag is included.
- Battery and filter availability in your country.
- Return period, warranty duration and who performs repairs.
- Shipping, tax and the cost of replacement consumables.
Dyson’s U.S. cordless listings direct buyers to current limited-warranty terms because those terms are updated periodically. Check the live information at Dyson’s U.S. cordless vacuum page and the corresponding Shark documentation for your region before paying.

Current flagship ranges extend beyond the two models tested here. Dyson’s India site lists the V16 Piston Animal with an advertised runtime of up to 70 minutes, a long-hair detangling head, dust compression and whole-machine HEPA filtration. Those are claims for that India listing, not a U.S. price or a direct comparison with the Stratos IZ862H. See the regional page at Dyson India’s V16 Piston Animal listing.
TechRadar’s cordless-vacuum roundup, published October 7, 2026, names the Dyson Gen5detect as a premium option and evaluates current Shark PowerDetect coverage separately. Its conclusions are a roundup assessment and a reviewer’s experience, not a controlled Gen5detect-versus-Shark head-to-head. Regional availability and bundles may differ, so do not transfer the V15-versus-Stratos measurements to those newer products.
What one reviewer’s experience can—and cannot—tell you
A TechRadar reviewer who used a V15 for more than 21 months says they prefer some Dyson features but also reports the Shark PowerDetect as the strongest cleaner among vacuums they had used. That is valuable long-term personal experience, not a standardized laboratory comparison. It illustrates why ownership impressions can diverge from a single test: noise, maintenance, floor-plan convenience and software-controlled suction matter after months of use.
Read that account at TechRadar’s V15 experience report, but keep its conclusions attached to that reviewer and the PowerDetect model they used.
Which model fits your home?
Choose the Dyson V15 Detect when:
- Carpet and pet hair are your highest-priority cleaning problems.
- You carry the vacuum between floors or clean above-floor surfaces for long periods.
- You want the broader attachment selection described by RTINGS.
- You prefer a slightly longer listed maximum runtime and can work within a smaller 0.45 L bin.
- You need a turbo brush for furniture pet hair and have confirmed it is included in your local bundle.
Choose the Shark Stratos IZ862H when:
- You empty a vacuum often and want the 0.65 L listed capacity.
- Low furniture makes a flexible wand more useful than minimum stick weight.
- You prefer the sturdier feel described in RTINGS’ comparison.
- An odor-neutralizing cartridge is useful for your household.
- You mostly use the machine as a handheld and find its measured 1.62 kg in-hand weight comfortable.
Consider neither until you verify the package when:
- The seller does not show the complete model code.
- The listed accessories do not match the tools you need for stairs, upholstery or hard floors.
- Replacement batteries or filters are unavailable where you live.
- The warranty terms are unclear or limited to a different region.
A practical buying checklist
- Identify the exact SKU. Write down every letter and number, not just “V15” or “Stratos.”
- Map your surfaces. Estimate the share of hard floor, low-pile carpet, high-pile carpet, stairs and upholstery.
- Prioritize the failure you notice most. Select pet-hair performance, low reach, bin capacity or low carry weight as your primary criterion.
- Check the actual tool list. Confirm the floorhead and upholstery or turbo tools are in the box sold in your country.
- Compare operating modes. Look for independent runtime figures at the mode you will use, not only the maximum claim.
- Price ownership. Add a compatible filter, likely battery replacement and any delivery charges to the purchase price.
- Confirm service. Verify warranty territory, returns and an approved repair route before opening the package.
- Test ergonomics if possible. Hold the full stick, then the handheld, and make an under-furniture pass.
Bottom line
The Dyson V15 Detect is the stronger choice for the evidence-based priorities of carpet pickup, pet hair, lighter full-stick handling and attachment variety. The Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H is the better fit when a larger bin, flexible under-furniture reach, odor control and a sturdier design matter more. RTINGS’ figures support those model-specific trade-offs; they do not establish that one brand wins every floor, generation or country. Buy the exact package that matches your home, then verify its parts and warranty locally.
