Eco Timber Group describes four distinct product families. Interior hardwood is offered in narrower and wider boards with several decorative finishes. Exterior hardwood uses secret-fix shiplap profiles. Charred timber adds a controlled blackened surface to selected species and profiles. Imbue is a separate thermally modified Radiata Pine line intended for exterior and other applications.
| Product family | Typical use described by the supplier | Profiles or widths | Key qualifications |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interior hardwood cladding | Internal walls and linings | 120 mm or 72 mm boards | Species, finish and availability vary; supplier claims insulation, acoustic and reinforcement benefits |
| Exterior hardwood shiplap | External walls and façades | 120 mm and 72 mm secret-fix shiplap | Movement, exposure, fire classification and installation must be checked for the proposed assembly |
| Charred timber | Exterior cladding, battens, shingles, posts, beams, handles and interior lining | Preferred charred profiles include 120 × 19 mm, 70 × 19 mm shiplap and 3D shiplap | Texture, finish and permitted species combinations differ by product and use |
| Imbue thermally modified timber | Cladding, screening, decking and joinery | 140 × 21 mm and 90 × 21 mm shiplap; other 3D profiles are listed | Supplier states Class 1 under EN 350, 96–97% dimensional stability and a 15-year exterior warranty subject to its guidelines |
Eco Timber Group also says custom species or sizes may be possible for external shiplap. Treat that as a request option rather than a guaranteed catalogue item.

Interior hardwood cladding
The interior range is listed in 120 mm and 72 mm widths on Eco Timber Group’s 2025 product page. The supplier names Spotted Gum, Red Ironbark, Grey Ironbark, Messmate, Blackbutt, Silvertop Ash, Tallowood, Sugar Gum and Oregon, subject to availability.
Available interior finishes
- Shou Sugi Ban charred: a blackened, controlled-char appearance where the selected timber and use are approved for that finish.
- Natural: leaves the timber’s colour and grain more visible, although untreated timber still responds to indoor humidity and sunlight.
- Rough-sawn or wire-brushed: adds tactile texture and can make variations in grain more pronounced.
- Clear-oiled: enriches colour while requiring a maintenance regime appropriate to the oil and room conditions.
- Internally sealed with polyurethane: creates a film finish; confirm sheen, repairability and preparation requirements before ordering.
- Greyskin recycled: a reclaimed-looking finish listed by the supplier; ask what substrate, coating and cleaning instructions apply.
The supplier describes its tongue-and-groove shiplap as quick to install and says timber can provide insulation, acoustic protection and structural reinforcement. Those are supplier claims, not independent performance results. A cladding lining should not be counted as structural bracing, a fire-rated system or a specified acoustic solution without documentation for the actual wall build-up.

Exterior hardwood shiplap
Eco Timber Group’s 2026 external page lists 120 mm and 72 mm secret-fix shiplap boards. Named species are Spotted Gum, Red Ironbark, Grey Ironbark, Messmate, Blackbutt, Silvertop Ash, Tallowwood, Sugar Gum (marked FSC on that page) and Japanese Cedar. The company describes the boards as solid hardwood, milled and finished in-house.
The tongue-and-groove design is described as allowing for timber movement. That does not remove the need for movement gaps, suitable cavity or batten details, drainage, ventilation and fastener spacing. Installation should follow the applicable Australian Standards and the supplier’s guidance for the project’s climate and exposure.

Durability and BAL statements for named hardwoods
Eco Timber Group states that its Class 1, BAL29-rated Ironbark, Blackbutt and Spotted Gum cladding is rated for 40 years above ground and 25 years in ground. These figures are the supplier’s stated ratings for the named products. They are not a project-specific guarantee: confirm the exact species, profile, coating, fixing method, ground contact, bushfire assessment and approval documents before relying on them.
The external page identifies self-drilling “Blackheadz” screws as an installation pairing. Verify screw grade, corrosion resistance, head appearance, embedment, edge distances and substrate compatibility with the installer or engineer; a named fastener pairing does not establish suitability for every coastal, treated or fire-exposed condition.

Eco Timber Group uses Shou Sugi Ban, also called Yakisugi, for controlled surface charring. The company says these products are manufactured in-house from Australian-sourced timber. Its charred range lists Red Ironbark, Red Mahogany, Japanese Cedar (Sugi) and Imbue as timbers selected for charring.
Char texture and profiles
A smoother “standard charred” appearance is distinguished from a more textured “deep charred” surface. Finish availability depends on the timber and intended use, so confirm the permitted combination before specifying it. The supplier’s FAQ identifies 120 × 19 mm and 70 × 19 mm shiplap and 3D shiplap as preferred charred profiles. The charred product page says applications can include shiplap and 3D cladding, posts and beams, battens, shingles, door handles and internal wall or roof lining.

Maintenance and service-life claims
Eco Timber Group says re-oiling is needed every five to seven years. It also gives 60 years above ground and 25 years in ground for specified Class 1, BAL29 Ironbark and Spotted Gum charred products. Confirm the exact oil, number of coats, exposure category, colour-retention expectation and fire documentation in current product and maintenance instructions. Charring is a finish process; it does not automatically make every species, profile or wall assembly fire compliant.
Imbue thermally modified timber
Imbue is described as thermally modified New Zealand Radiata Pine sourced from FSC-certified plantations. Eco Timber Group says heat treatment improves durability and dimensional stability without chemicals. Listed uses are cladding, screening, decking and joinery.
| Imbue specification | Supplier-stated detail | How to use the figure |
|---|---|---|
| Shiplap sizes | 140 × 21 mm and 90 × 21 mm | Check actual working width, cover, tolerances and stock for the selected profile |
| Other profiles | 3D cladding profiles are also listed | Request drawings and fixing details for the particular 3D section |
| Durability | Class 1 under EN 350 | Confirm the test basis and whether the classification applies to the supplied finished product |
| Dimensional stability | 96–97% | Supplier claim; ask for the test method, direction measured and conditions |
| Thermal value | Lambda Value of 0.9 | Supplier claim; do not substitute it for a whole-wall energy calculation |
| Exterior warranty | 15 years | Valid only when installation and maintenance follow the supplier’s requirements; read the current warranty document |
Thermal modification can reduce movement, but boards still need correct detailing, ventilation, end-grain protection, coating and fixing. Confirm whether the warranty requires a particular finish, inspection schedule or installer.
How to choose between the ranges
1. Start with location and exposure
Identify interior, sheltered exterior, fully exposed façade, soffit, wet area, deck, screening or ground-contact use. Record sun, driving rain, salt air, humidity, altitude and bushfire exposure. YourHome guidance notes that timber cladding’s weather resistance depends on profile, dimensional stability and applied finish. Shrinkage, swelling, cracking, warping and decay remain possible when timber is poorly selected or protected.

- Bates paint brushes come in a convenient 6 pieces with 3 flat and 3 angled bristle styles, including (1”, 1.5”, 2”) flat and (1.5”, 2”, 2.5”) angled bristles, perfect for tackling any surface painting or staining job.
- The sturdy natural bristles of each brush are designed to hold more paint, creating a smoother finish with fewer streaks and saving you time on the job.
- The lightweight wooden handles provide extra comfort and ease during long painting processes like walls, trims, cabinets, and doors.
- These versatile brushes are ready-to-use, easy to clean, and can be reused multiple times, making them economical as well as reliable tools for any painting project.
- Bates paint brushes can be used for both oil-based paints as well as latex stains and are ideal for home or commercial projects such as decks, fences or DIY painting jobs.
2. Set the visual brief
Choose species for colour, grain and ageing expectations, then choose width and profile. A 72 mm board creates a different rhythm from a 120 mm board; 3D profiles add shadow and texture, while secret-fix shiplap hides most fasteners. Charred surfaces range from smoother standard char to deeper texture. Ask for physical samples because photographs rarely show brushing, gloss, oil colour or char variation accurately.
3. Match finish to maintenance capacity
Natural timber, clear oil, polyurethane, wire-brushed and charred surfaces age differently. Ask who will inspect the cladding, how often it must be washed or recoated, how damaged boards are repaired and whether colour consistency matters. The stated five-to-seven-year re-oiling interval applies to the supplier’s charred products, not automatically to every oiled or sealed board.

- Request durability classification for the exact species and profile.
- Obtain bushfire and BAL documentation for the proposed location and wall assembly.
- Check reaction-to-fire or combustibility requirements where the building code or certifier requires them.
- Review installation drawings covering cavity, battens, joints, corners, penetrations, flashings and ventilation.
- Read warranty exclusions, maintenance duties and inspection requirements.
5. Check sourcing and certification
The supplier identifies Sugar Gum as FSC-marked on its external page and describes Imbue as coming from FSC-certified plantations. Ask for current chain-of-custody evidence, certificate scope and whether the certification covers the exact batch and finished product. Broad environmental language is not a substitute for current certification documents. PEFC or FSC certification can be one sustainability check, not the whole environmental assessment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Installation and detailing questions to resolve before ordering
- Confirm substrate: establish whether boards fix to timber battens, steel, masonry support framing or another system, and obtain screw embedment and spacing requirements.
- Design moisture control: provide drainage, ventilation, flashings, sill and head details, and separation from splash zones or ground as required.
- Allow movement: use the supplier’s joint, end-gap and perimeter clearances for the species, width, moisture content and exposure.
- Coordinate penetrations: detail windows, doors, lights, vents, pipes and services so water cannot track behind the boards.
- Confirm finishing sequence: establish whether boards are coated before installation, whether cut ends need sealing and how site damage is repaired.
- Approve the fasteners: verify the Blackheadz pairing or an alternative for corrosion class, substrate, fire exposure and appearance.
Ask for tailored installation guidance when the project has unusual climate, coastal exposure, high-rise wind loads, bushfire constraints or a non-standard profile. The supplier specifically invites customers to request guidance for their scope or climate.

Maintenance, ageing and reuse
Plan maintenance at specification stage. Keep a record of product name, species, finish, batch, installation date and coating used. Inspect joints, end grain, corners and penetrations for open gaps, coating failure, fastener corrosion, trapped moisture, fungal growth and movement. Clean according to the finish manufacturer’s instructions rather than using an aggressive pressure-washing regime that can damage fibres or char.
Timber cladding is not automatically reusable. YourHome notes that fixings, splitting and weathering can make removal and reuse difficult. Design for access and replaceability where possible, retain spare boards from the same batch and separate timber from membranes, metals and coatings during future removal.
Availability, lead time and quotation
Eco Timber Group’s FAQ gives a general estimate of three to four weeks for smaller projects and six to eight weeks for projects over 400 m². The estimate may not apply to a particular species, finish, custom size, order volume or destination, so obtain a current written lead time. Stock can change while a project is in documentation or approval.
The supplier lists a showroom at 380 Victoria Street, Richmond, Victoria. Verify opening hours and contact details before visiting. A useful quote request should include area, waste allowance, board orientation, profile, species, finish, lengths, trims, fasteners, delivery location, required certificates and target installation date. Ask the quote to state whether prices include coating, machining, packaging, freight, tax and replacement allowances.

Which option fits common project priorities?
| Priority | Most relevant starting point | What still needs verification |
|---|---|---|
| Interior feature wall with visible grain | 72 mm or 120 mm interior hardwood in natural, oiled or wire-brushed finish | Indoor humidity movement, coating maintenance and whether acoustic or structural claims are relevant |
| Exterior hardwood façade with concealed fixings | 120 mm or 72 mm secret-fix hardwood shiplap | Species availability, movement detailing, fasteners, fire documents and exposure durability |
| Dark, textured architectural exterior | Charred shiplap or 3D profile | Standard versus deep char, approved species, re-oiling schedule and BAL documentation |
| Dimensional stability and a stated exterior warranty | Imbue 140 × 21 mm or 90 × 21 mm shiplap | Current warranty, installation requirements, test basis for stability and project-specific fire compliance |
| Custom width or species | Discuss an external hardwood custom order | Machining feasibility, minimum quantity, price, lead time and technical approval |
Bottom line for specifying Eco Timber Group cladding
Eco Timber Group offers a broad palette rather than one universal cladding: interior hardwood in 120 mm or 72 mm widths, exterior hardwood shiplap in the same nominal widths, charred timber in several species and textures, and Imbue thermally modified Radiata Pine in 140 × 21 mm and 90 × 21 mm shiplap. Select the family by location and exposure first, then refine species, profile and finish. Before purchase, make the supplier’s current technical, fire, installation, warranty, certification, stock and lead-time documents part of the project record.
