Eid ul-Adha 2025 fell on Friday, 6 June, according to Saudi Arabia’s announcement and East London Mosque’s local announcement. The Day of Arafah was Thursday, 5 June. Observance dates can differ between communities that follow different moon-sighting or calendar authorities, so local dates should be confirmed with a local mosque or religious authority.
When was Eid ul-Adha 2025?
Saudi Arabia announced that 1 Dhu al-Hijjah 1446 began on Wednesday, 28 May 2025. On that calendar, the Day of Arafah was Thursday, 5 June, and Eid al-Adha was Friday, 6 June. Saudi Press Agency reported the Supreme Court announcement on 27 May 2025.

East London Mosque also announced Friday, 6 June as Eid al-Adha in its UK community. It listed Eid prayer times of 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 a.m.; these were times for that mosque, not general UK prayer times. The mosque’s announcement was published on 27 May 2025 and later updated on 19 January 2026.
Why can Eid dates differ?
Eid al-Adha falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijja, the lunar month associated with Hajj; Arafat is the ninth day. Authorities may differ in how they establish the start of the month, including their use of moon-sighting or calendar decisions. The Saudi and East London Mosque announcements establish those communities’ dates, not a universal date for every Muslim community.

Religious rulings can also differ. In an answer dated 13 August 2013, Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta said it uses Saudi moon sighting as the reference for determining Arafat and Eid. That is the position of this institution, not evidence of universal agreement. Read Dar Al-Ifta’s ruling. For a particular place, check the local mosque or religious authority.

Eid al-Adha commemorates Ibrahim’s test of faith and his willingness to sacrifice his son in submission to God. The observance is associated with qurbani, also called udhiyyah: an act of devotion involving animal sacrifice, with some meat distributed to people in need. Practices and religious rulings can vary. East London Mosque describes arranging qurbani through Muslim charities as one way to support people in need. Its announcement includes information about qurbani.
