Enware’s CARE601 is a free-standing IFO S-trap toilet suite designed for care settings. The listed package combines an increased-height pan, a Pressalit Sign double-flap seat, a raised flush button and support arms. Enware’s June 2020 technical sheet presents those elements as helping older people and people with limited mobility, while the actual suitability of any installation depends on the selected variant, room layout, plumbing, fixing method and the current accessibility standard.
This guide separates the documented product features from claims that still need confirmation. The base CARE601 is an IFO S-trap toilet suite supplied with four principal elements:
- an IFO6861 increased-height S-trap pan;
- an IFO98308 raised flush button;
- a Pressalit Sign double-flap toilet seat, listed in grey for the standard CARE601; and
- IFO98125 support arms.
It is described as a free-standing WC rather than a wall-hung pan. The cistern, pan, seat and arm arrangement therefore need to be coordinated with the finished wall, floor, outlet and transfer space shown in the project drawings. The suite is aimed at institutional and care environments, but a product description is not a substitute for a complete sanitary-compartment design or an approval by the relevant authority.

How Enware says the design supports access and care
Raised pan and flush control
Enware’s June 2020 data sheet gives the pan seat height as 460 mm, increasing to 480 mm when the Pressalit Sign seat is fitted. A higher seat can reduce the depth of the sit-to-stand movement for some users, but the useful height for a particular person also depends on footwear, transfer technique, leg strength and the surrounding grab points. Confirm the installed height from the finished floor, not just the catalogue figure.
The IFO98308 raised flush button places the control higher than a conventional low-mounted button. That may be easier to reach for a seated user or someone who cannot bend comfortably. The sheet does not provide a reach-range study, force measurement or clinical outcome data, so the button position should be checked against the project’s user group and the current standard.

Double-flap seat and support arms
The Pressalit Sign seat has two flaps. Enware lists the arms as individually raisable, allowing one arm to be moved without lifting the other. The data sheet says toilet-roll holders are positioned on both sides, intended to accommodate users with limited movement on one side. Together, these details are presented as providing back and side transfer support.
Those are manufacturer descriptions of the configuration, not independent evidence that the suite prevents falls or improves health outcomes. A care facility should test the transfer path with representative users, check that staff can operate each arm safely, and confirm that the seat, arms and nearby fixtures do not conflict with wheelchairs, hoists or cleaning equipment.

Intended care-setting use
Enware describes the CARE601 as offering “ease of access for elderly or disabled persons, or those with limited mobility” and recommends it for hospitals and nursing homes where patients or residents need extra bathroom assistance. These statements identify the intended application; they do not establish compliance for every jurisdiction, resident profile or room arrangement.
CARE601 configurations and what changes between them
The product family changes the seat colour, soft-close feature and nurse-call side. In the XL and XR codes, left and right are determined from the user’s seating position, not from the installer standing in front of the pan. Verify the code, seat finish and nurse-call location on the purchase order.

The listed Pressalit Sign seat codes are IFO554112-BD1999 for anthracite grey and IFO554000-BD1999 for white. Confirm that the seat code matches the exact CARE601 variant; a visually similar seat is not proof of interchangeability. Current manufacture, stock and replacement availability should be checked with Enware or the supplying wholesaler.
Published dimensions, ratings and test references
The following figures come from Enware’s technical sheet, Version: June 2020. They are product-sheet specifications and test references, not independent performance statistics or confirmation that a current installation satisfies every clause of a current standard.

The 400 kg pan rating and 150 kg system test should not be combined into a single user-weight promise. They describe different parts or test scopes. Ask for the current technical documentation if a project requires engineering sign-off, a particular occupant load, or evidence for a warranty condition.
Plumbing set-out and installation checks
The CARE601 sheet includes an S-trap set-out diagram with two layouts. It labels one as a typical institutional or health set-out and the other as a minimum set-out. Treat both as coordination dimensions to check, not as permission to ignore the project’s plumbing rules.

Before rough-in
- Confirm the exact CARE601 code, including white, black, soft-close and nurse-call suffixes.
- Set out from the finished wall and finished floor, allowing for wall linings, tiles, skirtings and any waterproofing build-up.
- Check the S-trap outlet centre against the existing or proposed drain. Do not assume that the minimum diagram suits the site.
- Locate electrical or nurse-call infrastructure on the correct side when ordering an XL or XR version.
- Coordinate the support-arm swing, transfer zone, toilet-roll holders, basin, door leaf, grab rails, emergency call point and cleaning access in plan and elevation.
Fixing and floor conditions
The suite is free-standing, so the floor must be capable of receiving the specified fixings and resisting movement. Enware lists IFO98015 as an optional waterproof floor-mounting bracket. Determine whether that bracket is required by the substrate, waterproofing detail or project specification; do not substitute an unapproved fixing because the pan appears stable during a dry fit.
Where arms, a nurse-call accessory or a replacement roll holder are sourced separately, verify the interface before installation. The listed nurse-call arm codes are IFO98125XL and IFO98125XR. IFO96348 is identified as a replacement toilet-roll holder for IFO98125. A CARE6861 version is listed without support arms, which is a materially different care provision even if the pan is similar.

Choosing the right version for a project
Specify the user transfer arrangement first
Start with the direction from which users and staff will approach the WC. If a nurse call is required, select XL or XR only after the seating-position convention has been marked on the drawing. If both-sided access is important, check that the chosen nurse-call and arm arrangement does not remove a needed transfer route.
Then select seat finish and operation
Grey is the listed base colour, with white alternatives and a black soft-close option. Soft-close may reduce noise and slamming, but it does not change the pan height or create additional transfer space. Confirm cleaning-chemical compatibility, colour-contrast requirements and replacement-seat supply with the facility team.

Use the 775 mm typical front distance when the room and circulation allow it, then test the actual wheelchair and staff manoeuvres. The 700 mm minimum front distance leaves less tolerance for footplates, hoists and carers. A pan that fits the drawing can still produce an unsafe transfer if the door, basin or grab rail occupies the same envelope.

Enware’s sheet refers to an all-angles 1,100 N cistern thrust test for the backrest requirements of AS 1428.1:2009. That reference is useful when tracing the manufacturer’s design basis, but it is not evidence that a newly specified room complies with the current edition of AS 1428.1 or with every accessibility requirement in the applicable state or territory.

Compliance is a system question. It can depend on the sanitary compartment dimensions, circulation clearances, grab rails, basin, door hardware, contrast, alarms, plumbing, waterproofing and installation tolerances as well as the WC itself. Have the current standard, building code, plumbing rules and project brief reviewed by the responsible designer or certifier. Obtain the latest Enware drawings and installation instructions rather than relying solely on the June 2020 sheet; an installation-guide search result identifies CARE601 dimensions, but the referenced PDF was not accessible in the supplied material.
Procurement and availability
A current Samios wholesaler listing identifies the CARE601 as an IFO toilet suite with support arms and provides postcode-based stock checking. Public pricing is not shown; pricing is behind account login. Stock at one branch, a particular lead time or a particular seat colour should therefore be treated as unconfirmed until the supplier returns a written quotation.

For a purchase request, include the full code, seat colour, soft-close requirement, nurse-call side, support-arm requirement, floor bracket decision, delivery location and required date. Ask the supplier to confirm that all components are supplied together and that replacement seats, roll holders and call accessories remain available for the facility’s expected service life.
Specifier’s verification checklist
- Product identity: Is the order for CARE601, CARE601W, CARE601XL, CARE601XR, CARE601WXL, CARE601WXR, CARE601GSC, CARE601WSC or CARE601BSC?
- Seat: Is the Pressalit Sign seat grey, white or black, and is soft-close required?
- Arms: Are support arms included, individually raisable and positioned for the intended transfer direction?
- Nurse call: If required, is the XL or XR side correct when read from the seated user’s position?
- Height: Has the 460 mm pan height or 480 mm seat-top figure been checked against finished-floor build-up and user needs?
- Loads: Are the 400 kg pan rating and 150 kg system test being interpreted within their documented scopes?
- Set-out: Do the 775/100/170 mm typical or 700/30/100 mm minimum dimensions suit the actual drain and room?
- Fixing: Is IFO98015 or another documented fixing required for the substrate and waterproofing detail?
- Accessories: Are IFO98125XL, IFO98125XR or IFO96348 needed, and are they compatible with the selected suite?

What the CARE601 evidence does—and does not—show
The available documentation supports a clear description of the product and its intended care-setting features. It does not provide named-user research, independent fall-reduction data, comparative testing against other accessible WCs, or a current certificate covering every installation. The numeric values are manufacturer figures from June 2020 and should be carried into a specification with that date and scope attached.
For a well-designed project, the CARE601 is a starting point: select the exact configuration, draw the room around real transfer movements, verify the plumbing and floor fixing, and obtain current compliance and installation advice before construction.
