Those are manufacturer-described product features, not a guarantee that any basin makes a bathroom safe or compliant by itself. Selection still depends on the room risk assessment, circulation space, plumbing layout, accessibility review, structural support and the regulations that apply to the project.
Which Enware basin kit fits the room?
Start with the room rather than the catalogue description. The current 500 mm kit is intended for projects needing a compact sanitary fixture. The Lutana 770 is the larger option where a more generous basin footprint, a usable shelf and a higher stated load-test figure are appropriate. Both are presented by Enware as mental-health products, but they serve different spatial and operational priorities.

Basin and shroud
Enware identifies KNP311510-100MHKIT as a vitreous-china rectangular basin supplied with a fibreglass shroud. The package is marketed as a compact sanitary solution for hospitals and aged-care facilities. A shroud conceals the plumbing beneath the basin and presents a smooth enclosure, but the room designer must still check how the enclosure meets the wall, floor and adjacent fittings.

Waste, trap and fixings
The listed package includes an anti-ligature waste, a standard P-trap and mounting bolts. “Anti-ligature” and “no concealment area” are Enware’s product descriptions. They should be checked against the project’s ligature-risk assessment, observation strategy and maintenance procedures rather than treated as an independent clinical certification.
Accessibility and cleaning claims
Enware lists AS1428.1 compliance, an easy-to-clean bowl and a non-institutional domestic appearance among the kit’s selling points. These statements describe the manufacturer’s design intent. A project-specific accessibility assessment must verify clearances, approach, reach ranges, tap operation, circulation and the relationship to doors, grab rails and other fixtures.
What does the Lutana 770 kit add?
Wider basin with handed shelf
The Lutana 770 is described as a mental-health and bariatric basin kit. Enware offers a left- or right-handed shelf, so the order must match the planned wall, approach direction and adjacent fittings. The right-hand product code shown in the current listing is ELB7760-100MHKIT; do not assume that code applies to the left-hand configuration.
Stainless-steel enclosure and service access
Unlike the 500 mm kit’s listed fibreglass shroud, Lutana 770 uses a 304 stainless-steel full-length shroud. Enware also lists a concealed service access panel. The panel can help maintenance personnel reach services without exposing pipework in normal use, but installers should verify the access method, lock or fastener arrangement and the clearance needed for servicing.

Stated load test
Enware’s Lutana 770 listing says the basin and shroud were “load tested to 450kgs to suit most bariatric designs.” This is the manufacturer’s stated test figure for that listing, not proof that every installation can safely support 450 kg. Wall construction, anchors, brackets, substrates and installation workmanship determine the capacity of the installed assembly. Have the structural and clinical design teams confirm the required load case.

Choose the 500 mm format when every millimetre matters and the room can accommodate the required circulation and service zones. Choose Lutana 770 when the wider footprint, shelf orientation, stainless enclosure or bariatric brief justifies the additional space. Neither choice should be made from width alone: the final decision must include door swings, wheelchair approach, staff observation, cleaning routes, maintenance access and the location of mixers and outlets.
How to specify and install the kit
- Define the clinical and operational brief. Record whether the room serves a hospital, aged-care, bariatric or other mental-health setting; identify the user group, supervision model, cleaning regime and required level of ligature-risk control.
- Measure the room and draw the fixture envelope. Set out the basin width, projection, shelf side if applicable, door swing, circulation, transfer or approach zones and any adjacent grab rails or accessories. Use the current Enware drawing rather than relying on the product name’s nominal width.
- Confirm the wall and support construction. Check stud, masonry or framed-wall capacity; identify bracket and anchor requirements; and have the responsible structural professional verify the support for the design loads. The Lutana 770 450 kg statement does not replace this check.
- Coordinate water, waste and services. Confirm the waste position, trap dimensions, mixer location, isolation points and any required access panel. The 500 mm kit lists a standard P-trap, while Lutana lists a 40 mm P-trap; coordinate pipework with the selected model.
- Check the handed configuration. For Lutana 770, select left or right shelf orientation before procurement and verify that the order code matches. A handed basin installed on the wrong side can compromise circulation, reach and maintenance access.
- Apply the applicable plumbing rules. Enware’s 500 mm technical data sheet directs installers to the Plumbing Code of Australia and AS/NZS 3500. The same sheet advises considering the Australasian Health Facility Guidelines, ABCB requirements and local-government regulations. The project’s plumbing designer and certifier should identify the editions and provisions that apply in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Complete the accessibility review. Treat Enware’s AS1428.1 references as manufacturer information. Verify the installed height, clear floor space, approach, controls, basin clearances and surrounding fittings against the project’s required standard and use case.
- Inspect the finished enclosure. Check that the shroud is secure, joints are cleanable, there are no unintended gaps or projections, service access is controlled, and the waste and trap are installed exactly as approved. Record the product version and any approved departures for the handover file.
What standards and claims should the design team verify?
AS1428.1
Both current product listings refer to AS1428.1: the 500 mm kit lists compliance, while Lutana 770 says the basin and shroud are designed to comply. Those references do not constitute a complete project certification. Confirm the applicable edition, dimensions and accessibility provisions with the certifier, especially where the basin is part of a larger accessible bathroom layout.
Plumbing Code of Australia and AS/NZS 3500
The 500 mm technical data sheet, identified as Version 04 February 2026, instructs installation in accordance with the Plumbing Code of Australia and AS/NZS 3500. It also says to consider AHFG, ABCB and local-government requirements. These documents govern more than the basin itself: drainage, water supply, ventilation, access, fire or building interfaces and approval pathways may all affect the installation.

Ligature and concealment risk
“No ligature points,” “no concealment area” and “anti-ligature waste” are claims made by Enware for the relevant kit. A safe mental-health bathroom requires a broader assessment of every fixture, door, ceiling, partition, pipe route, accessory and observation issue. Do not present the basin as a standalone guarantee of safety.
Load and impact information
The 450 kg figure belongs to the Lutana 770 listing. It should not be transferred to the 500 mm kit. Similarly, testing information for a separate mixer or outlet does not certify either basin kit.

Enware lists basin mixers and outlets as separate fixtures in its Mental Health collection. The Restore mental-health basin mixer, for example, has a short-outlet listing that describes testing to TS001:2013 Grade A4, while its front-of-wall construction is described as IK10 impact tested. Those statements apply to the mixer or fixture described on that listing, not to the basin, shroud, waste or trap.

Historical context: what the 2014 article does—and does not—show
The Architecture & Design article dated 13 June 2014 described an IFO range in 600, 700, 770 and 900 mm options. It reported features including no ligature points, no concealment areas, AS1428.1-2009/10 compliance and load testing above 400 kg. Those statements belong to that period and product range.
They do not establish that every 600, 700, 770 or 900 mm model remains available, that its materials are unchanged, or that the historical “excess of 400 kg” figure applies to a current kit. For a present specification, use the live Enware listing and current technical data. The current evidence specifically identifies the 500 mm kit and Lutana 770; other sizes require separate confirmation.
Procurement and handover checklist
- Record the exact Enware order code and product-page revision used for the specification.
- Confirm current basin, shroud, waste, trap, bolts and access-panel contents in writing.
- For Lutana 770, record left- or right-handed shelf orientation.
- Obtain current drawings for width, projection, mounting points and service access.
- Confirm substrate, anchors and structural design loads.
- Coordinate the selected mixer and outlet as separate fixtures.
- Document the applicable Plumbing Code of Australia, AS/NZS 3500, AHFG, ABCB, local-government and accessibility requirements.
- Have the clinical or security team review ligature, concealment, observation and cleaning risks for the whole room.

Bottom line for specifiers
The current 500 mm rectangular kit is the compact choice, supplied with a vitreous-china basin, fibreglass shroud, waste and P-trap. Lutana 770 is the larger, handed alternative with a 304 stainless-steel shroud, concealed service access and an Enware-stated 450 kg load test. Select between them by room geometry, user needs, shelf orientation, support construction and maintenance strategy—not by a marketing claim alone. Confirm the live specification and have the project team verify compliance and risk controls before purchase or installation.
