Figma’s AI tools extend its collaborative design canvas toward prompt-driven prototyping and workflows that connect design with code. That creates a strategic challenge for Adobe in product design and related creative work, but the available evidence does not show that either company’s tools are better overall.
Figma’s newer capabilities include Make for interactive prototypes, a design agent that works on the canvas, and connections between canvas work and code-agent workflows. Adobe is also adding AI features and agentic workflows to Firefly, so the comparison depends on the work, workflow, and access terms involved.
What are Figma’s AI design tools?
Figma’s Config 2025 announcements framed AI-powered tools, code, and more expressive vector editing as parts of a broader platform expansion. Figma described these capabilities as ways to help people visualize ideas and make them real; that is the company’s product vision, not independent evidence of productivity gains.

Figma Make: prompts to interactive prototypes
Figma describes Make as a prompt-to-app tool for designers and product builders creating interactive, high-fidelity prototypes. In its July 2025 announcement, Figma said Make and selected AI features had moved out of beta into general availability, while publishing Make files remained in beta at that time. Access conditions, plans, seats, and usage limits can change, so check Figma’s current product information before relying on a particular feature.

Figma Design Agent: AI working on the canvas
Figma says its design agent works directly in design files and can use context such as components, tokens, standards, and best practices to support exploration, editing, and iteration. Figma’s Help Center says the canvas-native agent became the primary way to access AI features in design files on May 20, 2026. Figma also warns that AI output may be misleading or wrong; it should not be treated as fact or expert advice.
How the agent differs from MCP
The design agent and Figma’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) connection serve different roles. Figma positions the agent as the built-in option for work on the canvas, with context about a design system. Its MCP server and related tools connect agent workflows between code and the canvas—for example, bringing code onto the canvas or pushing designs back to code. Check current documentation and terms, especially where a connection or API is in beta or has usage conditions.

How Figma AI compares with Adobe
Figma’s focus is collaborative interface design, prototyping, and links between design and development. Adobe’s Firefly tools sit within a broader creative-production ecosystem. Both companies are adding AI to their workflows, but the sources reviewed do not provide a directly comparable performance study or establish an overall winner.

Adobe’s April 2026 Firefly announcement described an AI assistant, additions to image and video editing, and partner models. This shows that Adobe is continuing to develop AI workflows; it does not establish parity or superiority in interface and product design.

What the comparison does—and does not—show
The fair comparison is about intended work, where AI appears in the workflow, whether results remain editable and connected to design systems or code, and the access conditions for each feature. Product announcements describe capabilities and company intentions, not independent proof that a feature is more accurate, faster, or more useful than a competitor’s.
The reviewed sources do not establish a directly comparable statistic showing that Figma’s AI products outperform Adobe’s. They also do not support a general claim that one platform is cheaper or better. Check current plan, seat, credit, beta, and publishing terms against each company’s official product information.

Figma and Adobe: acquisition background
Adobe proposed acquiring Figma in 2022, but the companies terminated the transaction in December 2023. The Associated Press reported that they said there was no clear path to obtaining the required European Commission and UK Competition and Markets Authority approvals. Adobe does not own Figma as a result of that proposed acquisition.

How to evaluate the tools for a project
- Define the work. Decide whether the task is primarily interface design and prototyping, a code-to-canvas workflow, or broader creative production.
- Check the workflow fit. Try Figma Make and the design agent for canvas-based exploration; consider MCP when the task involves moving work between code and canvas. Evaluate Firefly within the Adobe workflow relevant to your project.
- Inspect the result. Check whether the output is editable and fits your design system, code, and review process rather than judging only its first appearance.
- Review and verify. Treat generated content as a draft. Check its accuracy and suitability, and have qualified people review work before relying on it.
- Confirm access terms. Verify current plans, seats, credits, beta status, publishing availability, and any API terms before choosing a tool.

Can Figma Make generate a working prototype?
Figma describes Make as a prompt-to-app tool for creating interactive, high-fidelity prototypes. That does not mean every generated result is production-ready, and publishing Make files had remained in beta in Figma’s July 2025 announcement.
