Figma’s new AI creative app is called Figma Weave, formerly Weavy. It puts image, video, audio and 3D models from multiple providers into a node-based canvas, where you can connect generation with masking, compositing, inpainting, relighting, color grading and other editing steps.
The important catch is that Weave is still a separate product at weave.figma.com. Figma Design now includes a curated selection of Weave tools in open beta, but a regular Figma subscription does not automatically include the full standalone Weave app or its paid credit system.
What is Figma Weave?
Figma Weave is Figma’s rebranded version of Weavy, which Figma acquired in October 2025. It is designed for AI-assisted media creation rather than traditional interface design or app prototyping.

Its central idea is an editable, node-based workflow. Instead of generating an image on one website, exporting it, animating it somewhere else and finishing it in a separate editor, you can connect those stages on one canvas. Figma describes Weave as supporting models and tools for images, video, audio and 3D, with examples including Google, Kling, Runway, Luma, Stable Diffusion, Recraft and Bria. The available model roster can change.

Weave should not be confused with Figma Make, which is Figma’s prompt-to-app and prototyping product, or with the broader AI features inside Figma Design.
Why combine multiple AI models?
Different models tend to be useful for different jobs. One may produce a convincing product image, another may be better at image-to-video motion, while a separate operation may handle background replacement, upscaling or relighting.
In Weave, a workflow can connect those operations:
- Generate a product image with one model.
- Replace or expand its background.
- Apply a brand style, lighting treatment or color palette.
- Branch the result into several advertising formats.
- Animate a selected version with an image-to-video model.
- Save the workflow for the next campaign.
The advantage is not simply having many model names in one subscription. It is being able to see and reuse the pipeline connecting generation, editing and iteration.

Figma’s stated use cases include:
- Product photography and mockups
- Advertising and marketing assets
- Storyboards and illustrations
- Image-to-video clips and animations
- Social-media and YouTube thumbnail variants
- Campaign visuals and reusable brand workflows
- 3D assets and rendered imagery
The platform’s advertised editing capabilities include layers, masking, compositing, color grading, inpainting, relighting, AI outpainting, video compositing, image-to-3D workflows and 3D rendering. These are stated product capabilities, not evidence that Weave matches the depth of Photoshop, After Effects, Blender or other specialist applications.

How a typical Weave workflow works
The exact interface may change, but the basic process is:
- Start with a blank or existing workflow.
- Add a prompt, image, video or reference asset.
- Choose a generation model or creative operation.
- Connect its output to later nodes.
- Add masks, layers, compositing or other refinements.
- Generate and compare multiple variants.
- Revise individual steps and rerun the pipeline.
- Save or share the workflow for future production.
This structure is particularly useful for agencies and marketing teams that repeat similar tasks. A campaign workflow can become a starting point for the next product, launch or format rather than a one-off sequence of exports.
Weave tools inside Figma Design
Figma has begun bringing selected Weave workflows into Figma Design, but this is a narrower integration than embedding the entire Weave application inside every Figma file.

As of August 18, 2026, the integration is in open beta for Professional, Organization and Enterprise plans with Full seats. You need edit access to the file. It is not available to Starter, Government or K–12 Education plans. Rollout and availability can vary.

To find the integrated tools:
- Open a Figma Design file.
- Select an image, or browse for a tool first.
- Select Tools from the navigation bar.
- Click the filter icon and choose the Weave resource type.
- Choose a tool and configure its prompt, reference image or options.
- Select the number of runs and click Generate.
Examples include Generate mockup, Transfer style, Replace background, Change lighting, Text-to-vector illustration and Apply color palette. To inspect the underlying workflow, hover over a tool, open the three-dot menu and select Open in Weave.
During the open beta, these integrated tools do not consume Figma AI credits. That is a beta condition, not a permanent promise about future billing.
Pricing and credits
Figma has two separate systems: Figma AI credits and Figma Weave credits. Standalone Weave uses its own account, plans and credits, and a paid Figma subscription does not automatically unlock a paid Weave subscription.

See the current Weave pricing page before subscribing. The page also lists top-ups, rollover rules and model-specific estimates. Credit consumption varies significantly by model and operation, so an estimate of image counts is not a guaranteed production quota. Video, 3D and premium operations may use credits much faster than basic image generation.
The Free plan includes access to AI image models, professional editing tools, a commercial license and five workflows according to the pricing page. Commercial users should still review the terms for each model used: platform-level licensing language does not necessarily remove model-specific restrictions.
Figma Design pricing
Figma’s pricing page currently displays a free Starter plan and paid Professional seats, including a Professional Full seat displayed at $16 per month, alongside separate Dev and Collab seat prices. Figma pricing, billing cadence, taxes and regional amounts can change, so check the live selector before purchase.

Who should use Figma Weave?
Weave is a strong candidate for:
- Agencies producing many campaign variations.
- Creative teams that use several AI providers.
- Marketers making image, video and social assets at volume.
- Designers who want reusable, visible production pipelines.
- Teams that value iteration and shared workflow context over a single-purpose generator.
It is a weaker fit if you only need occasional image generation, are committed to one specialist suite, require direct control over a provider’s API or model version, need local or offline workflows, or do not want a second subscription and credit pool.
Does Weave replace Photoshop, After Effects or Runway?
Not completely, based on the evidence currently available. Weave’s distinctive value is orchestration: combining model calls, editing steps and reusable workflows. It is not proof of parity with mature specialist tools.
- Photoshop or Affinity: may remain preferable for detailed raster retouching, exact typography and pixel-level corrections.
- After Effects and similar tools: remain better suited to complex motion graphics and timeline-based finishing.
- Runway or another focused video platform: may be a better choice for teams centered primarily on generative video.
- Blender and specialist 3D tools: remain important for complex modeling, animation and production control.
- Figma Make: is the relevant Figma tool for prompt-to-app creation, not the multi-model media workflow described here.
A node graph also does not automatically guarantee consistent characters, exact brand typography, frame-to-frame continuity or production-ready output. Those requirements should be tested against your own assets and delivery formats.
What to check before paying
- Model breadth: Does Weave include the models your team actually needs?
- Workflow reuse: Can you save and share the pipelines you expect to repeat?
- Credit economics: How many credits does your real image, video or 3D workload consume?
- Creative control: Are its masks, layers and compositing tools sufficient for your finishing work?
- Commercial rights: Have you checked the terms for every model involved?
- Team administration: Do permissions, sharing and credit management fit your organization?
- Exports: Can the platform deliver the formats, resolutions and assets your production process requires?
- Vendor dependence: Are you comfortable depending on Figma for model availability, pricing and workflow behavior?
The bottom line
Figma Weave is most compelling as a creative-AI orchestration layer, not merely as another image generator. Its appeal lies in choosing different models for different stages, connecting them to editing operations and preserving the workflow for future reuse.
It is worth exploring if your team routinely moves between AI services to create campaign imagery, product visuals, storyboards or short video assets. Start with the free standalone plan or the eligible Figma Design beta, measure actual credit use and test your required exports before committing to a paid plan. For deep retouching, advanced motion graphics, complex 3D or precise provider-level control, specialist tools will still have an important place.
