A floral lumbar pillow is a rectangular accent pillow with a floral print, embroidery, appliqué or block-print design. There is no standard size or construction: examples range from 9 × 26 inches to 40 × 17 inches, with differences in fabric, insert and care. Compare the exact listing with your furniture and intended use rather than choosing by pattern alone.
What makes a pillow a floral lumbar pillow?
“Floral” describes the surface design, not a particular textile or technique. A floral motif may be printed on linen, embroidered on polyester, applied as fabric pieces, or made with a block-print process. Those choices affect the pillow’s texture and appearance, so check the product description or close-up images to see how the design is made.
“Lumbar” describes the elongated rectangular shape. It does not guarantee a particular proportion: listed examples include 12 × 18, 14 × 20, 24 × 14, 24 × 16, 36 × 12 and 40 × 17 inches, as well as a 9 × 26-inch option.
How to choose the right size for your sofa
Measure the space where the pillow will sit and compare it with the listing’s stated width and height. A long, narrow pillow and a shorter, taller one can both be sold as lumbar pillows, but they will occupy different amounts of a sofa or chair. If you plan to layer it with other cushions, consider the full arrangement rather than the pillow in isolation.

Retail examples show the range: House of Noa’s Marra is 9 × 26 inches, Magnolia’s Floral Applique is 24 × 16 inches, and the W Hotels Floral Lumbar is 40 × 17 inches. These are individual product specifications, not a category-wide sizing standard.
Compare design, fabric and fill
Read the material and construction details separately. A printed linen face, a hand-block-printed linen front, embroidered polyester, and a floral appliqué are different treatments. The back may also use another material: the W Hotels example pairs a printed 100% linen face with a rayon, cotton and polyester velvet back.

Fabric and filling vary just as much. Listings include cotton, linen, linen blends and polyester, with polyester fiber fill or feather/down inserts. Confirm whether the insert is included, whether it can be removed, and whether the cover has a closure. For example, Magnolia’s listing includes a poly-fill insert and concealed zipper; the World Market listing describes a removable insert. Pottery Barn UK’s search listing, by contrast, says its cover and insert are sold separately.

Check care and where the pillow can be used
Care instructions are product-specific. Examples in current product listings range from warm machine washing or a cold, gentle machine cycle to spot cleaning and professional dry cleaning. Some washable covers require removing the filler first. Follow the individual care label or listing rather than assuming that a floral pillow is washable because another one is.

Do not assume a decorative pillow is suitable for a patio or exposed area. Target’s Room Essentials floral lumbar pillow is specifically listed for indoor/outdoor use and described as water-, weather- and UV-resistant, with spot-or-wipe-clean care. Those claims apply to that product; they do not establish outdoor suitability for other floral pillows.

A quick checklist before you buy
- Measure the place it will sit and compare the listed dimensions.
- Choose the floral treatment and fabric texture you want, checking whether the front and back use different materials.
- Confirm fill type, insert inclusion and whether the cover or insert is removable.
