Free cloud PNGs are available as realistic sky overlays, simple icons, and decorative illustrations. Choose one that suits your project, check its dimensions, and read the license on the specific download page—“free” does not guarantee the same usage rights for every file.
Choose a cloud PNG that fits your project
A PNG with a transparent background can be layered over a photo, painting, slide, or other design without placing a solid rectangular background over the work. The best choice depends on what you are making:
- Photo or sky editing: Look for realistic cloud overlays. Photoshop Supply describes its cloud pack as useful for sky editing, with color and opacity adjustable to fit the scene.
- Interface or presentation graphics: A simple cloud icon is usually easier to read at small sizes than a detailed photo.
- Decorative artwork: Cartoon or clipart clouds can suit playful designs, but their style may not blend naturally into a photograph.
Before downloading, check that the preview actually has transparency rather than a white or colored background. Also consider whether the clouds’ lighting, color, and shape will work with the background you plan to use.

Examples of free cloud PNG collections
These are examples from the listed sites, not guarantees that every file in a gallery has identical terms or remains available. Gallery counts and individual listings can change.
| Source | What its page describes | License or attribution note |
|---|---|---|
| Photoshop Supply | 18 PNG files in a cloud pack; the page displays dates of September 30, 2020 and August 10, 2021. | The pack is described as free for personal and commercial use with attribution. Check the page for the required attribution. |
| PurePNG | A transparent PNG library whose cloud gallery lists 82 images. | The site describes its library as CC0. Confirm the terms for the individual image you select. |
| FreeIconsPNG | A cloud-icon page listing 23 images. | The page asks users to provide attribution by linking to its cloud-icon page. |
| Clipart Library | One catalog example is labeled 600 × 450 pixels and 35.2 KB. | That example is labeled “Personal Use”; do not assume it permits commercial use. |
Check the file size and likely output size
Dimensions affect how well an image holds up at the size you need. The FreeIconsPNG page includes cloud icons listed at 512 × 512 pixels, while the Clipart Library example above is 600 × 450 pixels. Those are specifications for particular catalog entries, not a standard size for cloud PNGs.

- Easy to use: It only takes a short time to peel and stick. Stick in accordance with the picture or DIY in your own idea. It is easy to remove and can be completely peeled off the covered surface without leaving residue.
- Scope of application: Cloud wall decals can be perfectly applied on hard and smooth surfaces, such as doors, windows, walls, furniture, tiles. Keep the surface dry before installation. Ideal for home, dining room, living room, kitchen, hallway, and office wall art.
- Beautiful clouds will add luster to your room, make your room look new and create a dream sky.
- For a small icon, modest dimensions may be sufficient; inspect the image at its intended display size.
- For a large composition or print, look for a larger source image so it does not become visibly pixelated when scaled up.
- File size alone does not tell you image quality. Preview the image and, if possible, open the downloaded file at the size you plan to use.
Review the license before using a download
Free cloud images do not all share one license. The collection pages reviewed describe different terms: Photoshop Supply says attribution is required for its personal and commercial use offer; PurePNG describes its library as CC0; FreeIconsPNG requests attribution by linking to its cloud-icon page; and the Clipart Library example is marked “Personal Use.” These are statements about the respective pages, not a blanket grant covering every image elsewhere on the internet.
- Open the page for the exact image you want, not just the gallery landing page.
- Read whether the license allows your intended use, especially if the project is commercial.
- Note any attribution, linking, or other conditions and follow them where required.
- If the terms are unclear or missing, choose a different file with clearer permissions rather than assuming that “free download” means unrestricted use.
Place a cloud PNG over a photo or painting
For a sky edit, add the PNG as a layer above the image in your editor. If it has a transparent background, the underlying scene should remain visible through the empty areas. Adjust the overlay’s size and position, then refine color and opacity so the clouds sit naturally in the scene. Photoshop Supply identifies color and opacity adjustment as options for its cloud overlays; the exact controls depend on the editor you use.

- This is DIY product, according renderings (or your own ideas), the pattern along the cutting line respectively gently peeled off, and then paste in your favorite place.
For a convincing result, compare the overlay’s light direction and contrast with the existing scene. A bright, soft cloud layer can look out of place over a dark storm sky, just as a dramatic storm cloud may not fit a calm painted landscape.
