For free Presidents’ Day 2025 images, start with the Library of Congress’s collection of presidential portraits and check the rights note on each image’s own record. The 2025 holiday fell on Monday, February 17; that date is past, but the portraits can still suit classroom activities, historical projects, or other designs.
Where to find free Presidents’ Day images
The Library of Congress Free to Use and Reuse collection is a useful starting point for presidential portraits. It includes selected images of U.S. presidents, allowing you to look for a specific person rather than settle for a generic patriotic graphic.
For a Washington-focused design, search the collection for George Washington. For a project about the 2025 administration, the Library of Congress record for the official 2025 Donald J. Trump portrait identifies it as a digital JPG photograph by Daniel Torok, dated January 15, 2025. The record describes the image as open content from whitehouse.gov and states: “No known restrictions on publication.” Review the portrait’s catalog record for its full details.
That rights wording applies to that specific portrait record; it does not establish permission for every other image in the collection or elsewhere online. The LOC collection is oriented toward portraits, not an exhaustive source for decorative clipart such as themed borders, cartoons, or classroom embellishments.

How to check whether an image is reusable
- Open the image’s own record. Don’t rely on a search-result snippet or a label such as “free” or “clipart.” Look for a rights advisory, creator, source, and any credit or use conditions.
- Follow the stated credit guidance. The National Park Service says images credited to NPS without a copyright symbol are public domain. If an item bears a copyright symbol or is credited to another entity, do not presume it is public domain; the NPS advises contacting the host park or program. See its photo gallery guidance.
- Match the image to your project. Check that it shows the president or subject you need, suits your page or poster layout, and reflects the right time period if the 2025 context matters.
“No known restrictions on publication” is the exact advisory on the cited 2025 portrait’s LOC record. Treat it as a useful item-specific rights statement, not as a blanket license for other files or an assurance about every possible use.

“Presidents’ Day” is the familiar search phrase, while the federal holiday is designated Washington’s Birthday. GovInfo explains that the holiday was established in 1879 to commemorate George Washington’s birthday and that the Uniform Monday Holiday Law moved its observance to the third Monday in February in 1971. Washington’s birthday itself is February 22. GovInfo states that “Presidents’ Day is observed annually on the third Monday in February.” Read GovInfo’s February 14, 2025 feature.
