Choosing the right collection is less about picking a colour from a screen and more about coordinating texture, reflectance, joint lines, orientation, accessories, compliance evidence and installed cost. The practical guide below explains the six finishes, the documented board and joint dimensions, the installation sequence, and the checks that should be completed before procurement.
What Genesis Signature is
Genesis Signature is a factory-finished façade product made from compressed fibre cement. “Through-coloured” means the cement board is coloured through its material rather than relying only on a thin painted face. Fairview markets the range as a premium architectural extension of its Genesis system, with six collections: Oasis, Essence, Velour, Serene, Lumina and Channel.

- TRUSTED BY PROFESSIONAL PAINTERS AND CONTRACTORS NATIONWIDE — Pro Grade delivers professional-grade results at a price that makes sense for crews who go through brushes on every job. Ideal for property managers, remodeling contractors, apartment turnover crews, maintenance teams, and commercial painting operations. Backed by thousands of verified reviews from working painters. Washable and reusable for multiple projects.
The system is installed as a ventilated rainscreen. Panels sit away from the primary wall on proprietary sub-framing, creating a cavity that is detailed to drain and ventilate. That arrangement allows the envelope to breathe, but it only performs as intended when the specified cavity, joints, flashings and openings are maintained.
Fairview states that the broader Genesis system is CodeMark certified and has a claimed design life exceeding 50 years. Signature profiles carry a 20-year standard warranty, subject to the warranty terms and required installation conditions. Treat both figures as product documentation claims, not a guarantee that every project will last or remain unchanged without correct design, installation and maintenance.
Genesis Signature finishes compared
Each collection changes the way a wall catches light and how much of the underlying fibre-cement character is visible. The table describes the distinctions Fairview publishes; it does not substitute for a physical sample.

| Essence | Deeper, durable shades that accentuate the underlying fibre-cement texture | Collection colour range described by Fairview | Strong colour depth with a deliberately expressed fibre-cement grain |
| Velour | Rustic fibre-cement character | Greys, browns, greens, blues and reds | Natural or varied palettes that benefit from a more tactile, weathered-looking surface |
| Serene | Uniform opaque finish with a matte topcoat | Collection colour range described by Fairview | Contemporary elevations needing an even, low-sheen field |
| Lumina | Curated architectural finish | Eight shades, including warm whites, bronze tones and dark neutrals with a green cast | Coordinated neutral schemes and carefully controlled contrast between elevations |

How to choose a Signature finish
Start with texture and reflectance
Decide whether the façade should read as smooth and uniform, visibly fibrous, rustic, or strongly linear. Serene provides the most even opaque reading in the published descriptions. Oasis allows some texture to show through a lightly pigmented surface. Essence and Velour make the material character more prominent, while Channel introduces relief that changes as the sun moves. Lumina is best assessed in full-size samples because its warm whites, bronze tones and green-cast dark neutrals can shift noticeably between direct sun and shade.

Set the colour family before selecting a board
Use the project’s roof, window frames, masonry, paving and landscape as the palette context. The Velour range spans several colour families, whereas Lumina is deliberately limited to eight shades. Oasis offers 20 colours, which can help when a larger palette is needed. Record the approved sample, not just a screen name, in the project schedule.
Coordinate shadow lines and orientation
Channel’s raised parallel lines need a clear decision about whether the lines run horizontally or vertically. The same choice affects the visual scale of other collections because Genesis boards can be oriented either way. Review corners, window returns, parapets and transitions at the same time as the main elevation so that joints and trims do not interrupt the intended pattern.

Fairview markets Genesis as low maintenance and says Signature’s HR coating improves the finished system’s performance. Those are manufacturer claims. The specification should still identify areas exposed to traffic, airborne dirt, vegetation, irrigation spray or graffiti, and set out how those areas can be inspected and cleaned in accordance with the current maintenance guidance.
Confirm documentation and budget
Before ordering, check the current technical manual, warranty conditions, CodeMark evidence and project-specific fire requirements. Compare the complete installed system rather than a board-only price: sub-framing, joints, flashings, labour, cutting, edge sealing, access equipment and approved accessories all affect cost.
Board sizes, layout and joint requirements
Fairview lists two standard Signature board sizes:
- 1250 × 2500 × 8 mm
- 1250 × 3050 × 8 mm
Boards may be laid horizontally or vertically on the proprietary sub-framing. The orientation should be resolved in the set-out drawings because it changes sheet handling, joint positions, cutting waste and the way Channel’s relief is read.

Fairview’s installation guidance calls for joints between 8 and 16 mm. The same guidance requires ventilation gaps at the top and base of the wall and around openings. These are functional parts of a rainscreen, not optional visual gaps; do not close them with sealant or trim that prevents the designed airflow and drainage.

Installation sequence for a ventilated Genesis rainscreen
Genesis is an engineered façade system, so the current Fairview manual and project drawings take precedence over a generic cladding method. The following sequence identifies the decisions and controls that must be addressed.
- Confirm the substrate and sub-framing design. Set out the proprietary sub-framing, support locations, cavity and openings to the approved drawings. Check that the wall can receive the design loads and that the cavity remains continuous for drainage and ventilation.
- Plan board orientation and joint layout. Choose horizontal or vertical installation, then coordinate sheet modules with corners, windows, doors, parapets and penetrations. Keep the specified 8–16 mm joint range throughout the layout.
- Install the ventilation and drainage details. Provide the required gaps at the top, base and around openings. Protect the cavity from blockage while retaining the airflow and drainage path shown in the system details.
- Prepare safe cutting and drilling controls. Genesis contains respirable crystalline silica. Use the dust-reduction and respiratory-protection practices required by the current guidance, control dust at the source and keep other workers away from the cutting area.
- Cut boards with the specified blade. The Signature manual lists a fibre-cement blade measuring 160 mm in diameter, with four teeth and a 20 mm bore. A general-purpose timber blade can damage the board and create unsuitable dust; use the fibre-cement-specific specification in the manual.
- Clean, bevel and seal exposed edges. After cutting, clean and bevel exposed edges as instructed, then apply the specified edge sealer. Edge sealing is required on exposed cut edges of Signature boards; use the exact product and safety method in the current manual.
- Drill and fix the panels. Use the specified centring drills, fixed-point sleeves and colour-coded stainless-steel rivets. Follow the fixing pattern, edge distances and movement allowances in the project details rather than improvising hole positions.
- Set and inspect the rivets. Use the approved rivet-setting tool and check that rivet heads, joints and panel faces are undamaged. Verify that fixed points and movement points have not been confused.
- Complete trims and penetrations. Install the specified flashings, corner and opening details, gasket tape and other system components so water is directed out and the cavity remains ventilated.
- Carry out a pre-handover inspection. Check board alignment, joint width, rivet finish, sealed cut edges, ventilation gaps, damage, colour consistency and documentation before removing protection or accepting the façade.
Accessories and tools required
Fairview lists the following Genesis accessories and installation items:
- Gasket tape
- Stainless-steel colour-coded rivets
- Fixed-point sleeves
- Centring drills
- Rivet-setting tool
- Edge sealer
- Dedicated fibre-cement saw blade
The accessory list is significant because the system’s movement, alignment and weathering details depend on compatible parts. A board-only order can leave an installer without the sleeves, rivets, sealant or drilling equipment needed to finish correctly. Confirm availability, colour matching and the approved substitute rules with Fairview or an authorised distributor before placing the order.
Durability, maintenance and appearance over time
Fairview describes Genesis as low maintenance, through-coloured and resistant to impact, scratches and graffiti, and says Signature adds an HR coating. These are manufacturer claims. Through-colouring can reduce the visual contrast of a minor surface mark compared with a thin surface-only coating, but it does not make the façade immune to damage, staining or incorrect cleaning.

Plan maintenance around inspection rather than waiting for a visible failure. Keep joints, flashings, cavity openings and trims clear; look for impact damage, loose or damaged rivets, blocked ventilation gaps and deterioration at cut edges. Use only the cleaning methods and products permitted by the current Fairview guidance, particularly on the HR-coated surfaces. Any repair should preserve the specified joint, drainage and ventilation arrangement.
The 20-year standard Signature warranty applies subject to its terms. Retain the approved product schedule, installation records, batch or colour information where supplied, and inspection documentation so a future warranty or repair question can be assessed against the actual project conditions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fire, environmental and compliance checks
Fairview and trade coverage describe Genesis as deemed non-combustible under NCC 2022 clause C2D10(6)(d). “Deemed non-combustible” is a compliance pathway, not permission to ignore the rest of the wall build-up. Verify the current certificate, the exact product and thickness, the sub-framing and insulation configuration, and any project-specific fire requirements with the building surveyor or certifier.
Fairview references an independently verified Environmental Product Declaration for the Genesis system. The available product material does not provide a quotable life-cycle figure, so an EPD should be used as project documentation rather than converted into an unsupported carbon claim. Ask for the current EPD and boundaries if embodied-impact data is part of the brief.

Procurement and installed-cost decisions
Genesis Signature is normally specified and procured as an industrial façade system through Fairview or authorised distributors. Request a coordinated quotation that separates boards, sub-framing, flashings, accessories, delivery, cutting, waste, labour and access equipment. Installed cost can vary materially with board orientation, façade geometry, the number of openings, joint density, height and the amount of site cutting.
Approve colour and texture samples before the purchase order. Confirm lead times for the chosen collection, replacement-board availability, accessory stock and the documentation required for the project’s warranty and compliance file. If a tender contains a board allowance but no stated joint, sub-framing or edge-sealing assumptions, ask for those inclusions to be made explicit before comparing bids.
Common specification mistakes to avoid
- Choosing from a monitor alone: screen colour is not a reliable approval sample.
- Ignoring orientation: horizontal and vertical layouts produce different proportions, waste patterns and detailing requirements.
- Closing the cavity: top, base and opening ventilation gaps must remain functional.
- Using the wrong blade: fibre cement requires the specified blade and silica-dust controls.
- Skipping edge sealer: exposed cut edges must be cleaned, bevelled and sealed as directed.
- Mixing fixing components: use the specified rivets, sleeves, drills and setting tool so fixed-point and movement details remain correct.
- Relying on a generic fire statement: check the current certificate and the complete wall assembly for the actual project.
- Comparing board prices only: accessories, sub-framing, labour, waste and access are part of the installed façade cost.
Who Genesis Signature suits
Genesis Signature suits projects that want a factory-finished fibre-cement appearance, a choice of distinctive textures and colours, and a ventilated rainscreen installation. It is particularly useful when the design needs a controlled matte surface, visible material grain or directional relief without relying on a separate site-painting operation.
It is less suitable for a project that cannot accommodate proprietary sub-framing, cavity ventilation, silica-safe cutting or the documentation and detailing required by a rainscreen system. In those cases, the design team should resolve the buildability and compliance constraints before naming a finish.
The Bottom Line
Specify Genesis Signature as a complete ventilated rainscreen system, not as a standalone coloured board. Select the collection from approved physical samples, coordinate orientation and 8–16 mm joints with the openings, use Fairview’s listed fixing and cutting accessories, and verify current warranty, fire and environmental documentation before procurement.
