To make ArtRage 6 easier to work in, choose tools by the job: use the Palette Knife to blend paint, layers to keep revisions manageable, references and guides to support observation or composition, and scripts for actions you repeat. These are workflow options, not guaranteed shortcuts; the right settings depend on the painting and the result you want.

Choose a tool for the job in front of you
ArtRage 6 combines natural-media painting and drawing tools with digital features such as layers, references, grids, guides, perspective layout, custom brushes, and workspace controls. Start by identifying the result you want, then test the relevant tool on a small sample rather than assuming one setting will suit every painting. The ArtRage 6 guides identify the Palette Knife as the main blending tool. Its shapes and settings produce different blending patterns, so try a few on a duplicate or separate layer when you want to preserve the original marks. For washes and soft transitions: explore watercolor wetness
Watercolor settings include brush-wetness control, and the tool can be used on wet or dry paper. Experiment with those options to see how they affect washes, transitions, and detail in your setup. This is a way to explore different handling, not a guaranteed faster route to a particular effect.
Keep revisions manageable with layers and blend modes
Layers and groups give you ways to organize parts of a painting, while blend modes control how layers interact. One practical arrangement is to keep a sketch, main color, and effects separate when you expect to revise them independently. That is an organizational choice, not a required ArtRage recipe; use only as many layers as help you work clearly. ArtRage 6’s product page documents layers, groups, and blend modes.

Check whether you are adjusting color or texture
Layer blend modes affect color interaction between layers. Bump blend modes affect paint texture and depth results. If the color looks right but the surface does not, check which blend-mode family you are adjusting before changing the paint itself. The ArtRage 6 guides explain the blend-mode options.
Use references and composition aids deliberately
Pick the lightest aid that addresses the problem you are solving. An imported reference image supports visual observation while you paint; a tracing image can guide stroke placement or color choices. Grids and guides help with alignment, while perspective layout tools support structured scenes. ArtRage 6 lists these capabilities on its product page.

Automate only actions that are already repeatable
ArtRage 6 can record and replay actions with scripts. This is most useful after you have settled on a stable sequence that you genuinely repeat; official examples include adding a signature or business logo. Scripts replay recorded events at the positions recorded, so they are not a general-purpose way to automate any arbitrary workflow.
The ArtRage scripts resource also describes using scripts to create shareable tutorials with onscreen tips and links to a scripting guide for language details. Scripts are recorded actions, not video files.

Arrange the interface around the current task
ArtRage 6 offers light and dark modes and classic or flexible docking layouts. Arrange panels around the tools you use most, then revisit the layout when you switch tasks. Find ArtRage 6 help and check edition details
Ambient Design’s manuals page says desktop editions provide the manual from Help > ArtRage Manual. Its current index lists some edition-specific manuals but does not list an ArtRage 6 PDF, so use the online ArtRage 6 guides and in-app Help rather than assuming a downloadable ArtRage 6 manual is available. The manuals page describes manual access and available editions.

The tutorial catalogue spans versions and platforms. Check the edition attached to an individual lesson before treating it as an ArtRage 6 walkthrough. It includes lessons titled “How To Increase Painting Sizes for Printing” and “How to choose a Canvas Size in ArtRage,” but those titles alone do not establish that either lesson is specific to version 6. Browse the ArtRage tutorials catalogue for details.
The ArtRage 6 product page lists Windows 10 or later and macOS 10.10 or later. Because operating-system support and commercial availability can change, check the product page for the current details that apply to your setup.
Try the demo if you want to explore before committing
Ambient Design says its ArtRage 6 demo contains all features and tools and has no expiry, but it does not allow saving files. The demo page points to a Quick Start guide in the Help menu. That makes the demo suitable for exploring the interface and tools, but its save restriction matters if you need to keep a painting in progress. See the ArtRage demos page for the stated terms.
