Gemini 2.0’s experimental image-generation capability made conversational image creation and editing easier to try, but the available evidence does not show that it replaced Photoshop’s broader editing environment. Can Gemini 2.0 replace Photoshop?
The cited evidence does not support saying Gemini 2.0 replaced Photoshop. It does show that Gemini 2.0 Flash introduced experimental, prompt-led image generation and conversational edits, while Photoshop remained an editing environment; later, Adobe announced a newer Google image model inside Photoshop beta’s Generative Fill.

Gemini 2.0 Flash introduced native image generation and multi-turn conversational editing in an experimental context. Google’s March 12, 2025 developer announcement described these capabilities in its Gemini 2.0 Flash image-generation announcement. Google also announced image generation and editing in preview on May 7, 2025, in its developer post.

Understanding an uploaded image is not the same as generating or editing one. Gemini 2.0’s image-generation feature was experimental; it should not be presented as a capability of every Gemini model or as the current Gemini image model.
What could Gemini image editing do?
Gemini’s image workflow let users request changes conversationally. Google’s April 30, 2025 Gemini app announcement said users could edit uploaded and generated images directly in the app, and that images made or edited with native image generation include an invisible SynthID watermark. Why is “Photoshop killer” too strong?

Can you use Gemini inside Photoshop?
Adobe announced Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, also called Nano Banana, as a partner model for Photoshop beta’s Generative Fill in September 2025. This is not Gemini 2.0 operating as a standalone chat experience inside Photoshop.

What happened to the “Photoshop, beware” prediction?
The prediction captured a meaningful change in how people could approach image editing, but it was too absolute if read as a claim that Photoshop would be replaced.
