For a quick graduation graphic in a slide, newsletter, webpage or print layout, look for a transparent PNG. For recoloring, scalable artwork or a cutting machine, choose a compatible SVG, EPS or DXF—and check whether the text is editable. Most importantly, read the license for the exact file: graduation clip art labeled “free” is not automatically cleared for every use.

Choose a file format for what you’re making
| Format | Useful for | Check before downloading |
|---|---|---|
| PNG | Slides, newsletters, webpages and ordinary print layouts; transparent backgrounds work well when placing art over a colored design. | Confirm the image has transparency and enough resolution for the size you plan to print. |
| SVG | Scalable designs, recoloring in compatible software and many cutting-machine workflows. | Confirm your software or cutter supports the file. An SVG does not necessarily contain editable text. |
| EPS | Vector-design workflows and compatible illustration software. | Check whether your design application can open and export it as needed. |
| DXF | Cutting-machine workflows that accept DXF. | Check the machine and software’s supported formats before purchase or download. |
For example, a 2025 cap-and-tassel listing offers eight transparent PNG designs described as approximately 12 inches wide at 300 ppi, alongside EPS, SVG and DXF files. Its listing says the SVG and DXF cut files are intended for cutting machines; it also warns that the text is not editable, although colors can be changed in compatible software. Those details apply to that listing, not every graduation graphic. See the 2025 cap-and-tassel listing.
Find artwork that matches the Class of 2025
Check the wording and details in the preview before downloading. A graphic may show a graduation cap, tassel, diploma or graduate without including the exact year or “Class of 2025” text you need. If year lettering is essential, verify that it appears in the file itself rather than assuming it can be changed later.
A graduation cap bundle listing includes SVG, PNG, PDF, EPS and JPG files and names Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, Scan N Cut and design applications as compatible tools. It describes projects such as shirts, mugs, wall art, decals, stickers, cards and decorations. Compatibility and included formats are listing-specific; check the current product details for the exact bundle. See the graduation cap bundle listing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check the license against your intended use
“Clip art,” “free” and “download” describe the kind of item or how to get it; they do not establish permission for every use. Terms differ across the reviewed examples, so open the current license attached to the exact asset and confirm that it covers your project and how you will distribute it.
- Personal, classroom or school-office use: The 2025 cap-and-tassel listing limits its license to these uses and says commercial use requires a separate license. Do not assume it covers products you sell. Review that listing’s terms.
- Crafts or products for sale: A So Fontsy cap bundle identifies its license as the “So Fontsy Standard Commercial Use License.” Read the full terms to determine what sales, quantities or distribution methods it allows. Check the bundle listing.
- Subscription-based downloads: Envato Elements advertises a lifetime commercial license for an Icons8 graduation illustration in SVG and PNG as part of its subscription offer. That is the vendor’s offer description, not a general rule for other assets or subscriptions. Review the illustration offer.
- Assets labeled CC0: ClipSafari labels a graduation image CC0 and says commercial use is permitted without attribution. Verify the source and license metadata for the exact downloaded image before relying on that claim. Check the ClipSafari image page.
- Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike: Wikimedia Commons identifies the author of “Graduate clip art.png” as Murrietahector and gives the file’s license as CC BY-SA 3.0. The page specifies attribution and share-alike conditions for adaptations. Read the file’s Wikimedia Commons page.
Another So Fontsy listing says, “Free commercial use license included.” That statement applies to its College Grad listing only; check that product’s terms rather than extending the claim to other files or vendors. See the College Grad listing.

- If you need to change lettering or colors, does the listing say those elements are editable?
- Does the license cover your use, including printing, selling, sharing, attribution and any share-alike obligations?
