For a graduation poster that looks good where it will be displayed, choose the size and material first, then build a design around the graduate and prepare the file to match the printer’s specifications. A party welcome sign, a framed keepsake, and a large wall display may need different formats.
Choose the poster’s purpose and size
Start by deciding where the poster will go and how it will be used. A welcome display at a party needs to be readable from a distance; a keepsake may prioritize a favorite portrait and a finish suitable for framing. Check the printer’s available dimensions before designing the final file.
- Common US poster format: Canva lists 18 × 24 inches as a US poster size. Canva poster printing
- FedEx Office photo-poster sizes: Its product page lists 10 × 10, 16 × 20, 20 × 24, and 24 × 36 inches. FedEx Office photo posters
These are vendor-listed options, not universal standards. Confirm that your selected service offers the size you want, and measure the display area before laying out text or images.

Build around details that matter to the graduate: a clear portrait, name, school, class year, or a short message. Keep the most important wording prominent, especially on a poster that guests will view from across a room. Before sending the file, check names, dates, school details, and permission to use every image.
Prepare a print-ready file
Set the design canvas to the final print dimensions and use high-resolution source images. Canva describes 300 DPI as an ideal resolution for clear poster printing; Staples separately recommends a minimum of 300 DPI for its upload guidance. These are vendor recommendations, so verify the current requirements of the printer you choose. Canva poster printing Staples custom posters
