The grasscloth wallpaper phase of this bedroom-suite renovation is finished. That confirms the wallcovering has been installed, but it does not by itself identify the maker, pattern, color, installer, adhesive, or final visual effect. Those details should come from the product label, invoice, installation record, or owner-provided photographs.

What can be said with confidence is that the room now has a natural-fiber wall finish whose woven texture, tonal shifts, and panel seams are part of the material’s character. The next priority is protecting that finish while the rest of the suite is completed and establishing care instructions for the exact product.

What “finished” confirms—and what it does not
A progress milestone saying the grasscloth wallpaper is finished establishes one completed scope item: the wallcovering installation is complete in the bedroom suite. It does not establish whether every trim detail, outlet cover, ceiling junction, or adjoining surface has also been completed. Nor does it prove which grasscloth product was selected or how the finished walls look in person.

Grasscloth is made from natural fibers woven into a wallcovering. Unlike a printed wallpaper designed to imitate texture, it normally shows the irregularities of the fibers themselves. Even within one installation, the appearance can shift from panel to panel. A responsible project update should therefore describe the material and the completed stage without inventing a color, pattern, seam layout, or before-and-after result.
Details still worth recording
- Manufacturer and exact product name or collection
- Color, pattern, lot or dye information, if supplied
- Wall areas covered and any areas intentionally left unpapered
- Installer’s name and whether the work was performed by a professional or an experienced wallpaper installer
- Adhesive specified by the wallcovering manufacturer
- Installation date and the product’s care sheet
Keeping those records with the renovation documents matters because care and repair advice is product-specific. A generic recommendation for “wallpaper” is not enough for a natural grasscloth surface.
Why grasscloth looks different from ordinary wallpaper
The defining feature of grasscloth is its visible woven texture. Natural strands create a tactile, dimensional surface, while the underlying color can vary subtly across each strip. Seams between panels are normally visible rather than disguised completely. Milton & King describes visible paneling and variation between drops as common with natural grasses; those characteristics are not automatically installation defects.

A seam that can be seen in grazing light, a slight shift in tone between adjacent panels, or an uneven fiber line may be intrinsic to the material. The correct question is whether the result matches the selected product’s expected characteristics and whether the panels were aligned and bonded correctly—not whether the wall resembles a seamless, digitally printed surface.
Natural variation versus a workmanship problem

Photographs can exaggerate or hide these differences depending on angle and lighting. If the suite is being documented for a project record, take wide views and close-ups in even light, then retain a photograph of the product label or invoice.

Installation requires more care than standard wallpaper
Natural-fiber wallcovering is less forgiving of careless handling than many smooth, coated wallpapers. The substrate must be clean, dry, sound, and properly prepared before adhesive is applied. Spoonflower’s grasscloth instructions, updated April 17, 2026, call for clean, dry wall preparation and recommend an experienced installer. Milton & King likewise recommends professional installation and emphasizes careful adhesive and seam management.
Those instructions belong to the named products and should not be treated as interchangeable. The selected wallcovering’s own technical sheet controls adhesive type, booking or resting time, seam treatment, and any limits on moisture or pressure.

Surface preparation
Walls with dust, grease, loose paint, unresolved cracks, or uneven repairs can telegraph problems through a woven face. Preparation should address those conditions before paper is hung. In a bedroom suite, check especially around bedside tables, switches, heating equipment, and any wall that previously held artwork or shelving. If the installation is already complete, do not sand, prime, or patch through the grasscloth without direction from the installer and manufacturer.
Adhesive and paste control
Paste on the visible face can be difficult to remove from natural fibers. Spoonflower specifically warns that paste is extremely difficult to remove from the face of its grasscloth. That is why installers control paste placement, protect the front surface, and clean only in the manner the product instructions allow. A smoothing tool should seat the panel without crushing or abrading the woven strands.
Milton & King’s guidance captures the practical issue: “The handling, paste technique, and seam management are different enough from standard wallpaper that prior experience matters.” The statement is a reason to verify installer experience, not evidence that a particular person or method was used in this bedroom.

Seam management
Grasscloth seams remain part of the visual design. The goal is consistent alignment and secure adhesion, not making every joint disappear. Inspect seams from normal standing positions and in the room’s usual daylight and evening lighting. Look for lifting, gaps, adhesive squeeze-out, or a strip that has drifted out of plumb. Report concerns promptly; do not press, pull, or trim a panel yourself.
How to care for the newly finished walls
Use the exact care sheet supplied with the installed product. Manufacturer advice differs, and a cleaning method that is safe for one backing or finish may stain another.
Routine dusting
Milton & King recommends gentle dry dusting for its grasscloth and warns that damp cleaning can stain that product. A soft, clean duster used with light pressure is the conservative starting point while the product identity is being confirmed. Keep vacuum attachments, stiff brushes, abrasive cloths, and spray cleaners away from the face unless the maker explicitly approves them.
Spills and marks
Do not experiment with water, detergent, stain remover, or a magic eraser on an inconspicuous area. Natural fibers can absorb moisture and may show a permanent ring or color change. Blotting, rubbing, or repeated wiping can flatten the weave or spread a mark. Photograph the area, note what caused it, and ask the installer or manufacturer for product-specific instructions.
Furniture and daily contact
Allow clearance between the wall and furniture that could rub against the woven surface. Bed frames, headboards, lamps, and moving doors deserve particular attention in a bedroom suite. When hanging art or installing hardware, measure carefully and protect the wall from drilling dust and accidental adhesive contact. Keep hands clean when touching the surface during the remaining renovation work.

Humidity, ventilation, and room conditions
Grasscloth is generally a poor choice for locations exposed to persistent high humidity or moisture. A bedroom is not automatically a high-moisture room, but ventilation and wall condition still matter. Confirm that the suite does not experience recurring condensation, leaks, or dampness before treating the installation as complete.
- Use the room’s normal ventilation and address any known condensation source.
- Keep the wallpaper away from direct splash zones and investigate plumbing or roof leaks immediately.
- Do not introduce steam cleaning or wet washing as part of routine housekeeping.
- Tell the installer if the wall has a history of dampness, mold, or repeated paint failure.
These precautions protect both the wallcovering and the substrate beneath it. If moisture is discovered, resolve the building issue before attempting cosmetic repair.

Woven fibers cast small shadows, so the surface can look more textured under side lighting than under diffuse daylight. Tonal variation may also appear stronger at one time of day than another. That is a property of a dimensional natural finish, not proof that the color is changing from one viewing angle.
For a fair handover inspection, view the walls in the suite’s ordinary lighting, including daylight and the installed lamps. Check the room from the doorway, from the bed, and along each wall rather than judging one close-up photograph. If the owner approved a sample, compare the installed material with that sample under similar light; a sample cannot eliminate the natural variation between full-size drops.

Before other trades finish around the wallpaper, document the condition and protect it from avoidable damage.

- Record the product. Photograph the label, packaging, invoice, and care instructions. Note the installation date.
- Inspect the perimeter. Check corners, ceiling lines, baseboards, door casings, window returns, and outlet cutouts for secure edges and clean transitions.
- Inspect the field. Look for lifting, bubbles, open seams, scratches, crushed fibers, or visible paste residue.
- Review lighting. Examine the walls in normal daylight and with the room’s installed fixtures switched on.
- Protect the surface. Keep paint, joint compound, dust, tape, and tools from contacting the grasscloth while remaining work proceeds.
- Confirm care rules. Give the household the actual manufacturer’s cleaning and humidity guidance, not a generic wallpaper checklist.
- Report issues early. Send dated photographs to the installer before attempting any adjustment or cleaning.
Questions to ask before closing the renovation file
Which product was installed?
The exact name and backing determine adhesive compatibility, cleaning limits, and repair options. If the project file only says “grasscloth,” request the full product identification.
What adhesive and preparation system were specified?
Do not substitute a paste because it worked on another wallpaper. Spoonflower lists ROMAN PRO-880 Ultra Clear Strippable Adhesive in its own installation instructions, but that listing does not establish what belongs on an unidentified product or what was used in this suite.
What should happen if a seam lifts?
Get the installer’s preferred reporting process and timing. A lifted edge should be assessed before someone applies household glue, water, or pressure that could spread damage.

How should the room be cleaned?
Ask for the maker’s written directions. For example, Milton & King advises dry dusting and cautions that moisture can stain its grasscloth; that guidance should not be generalized to every manufacturer.
What this progress update means for the next phase
With the wallpaper installed, remaining work should be planned around protecting a delicate finished surface. Trim touch-ups, electrical work, furniture delivery, artwork installation, and cleaning can all create contact or dust. Sequence those tasks so tools and wet materials do not pass repeatedly across the paper.
The most useful completion record combines a few wide photographs, close-ups of transitions, the product documentation, and the installer’s care guidance. That record preserves the project’s actual decisions without claiming a specific appearance that has not been documented. It also gives the household a reliable reference if a seam, stain, or humidity problem appears later.
The finished milestone is therefore both a visual step forward and a maintenance handoff: the natural woven surface is in place, its variation and seams should be judged according to grasscloth’s character, and all future cleaning or repair should follow the exact product maker’s instructions.
