Guitar papercraft can mean a quick printable cutout, a hands-on sound-making activity, or a complex 3D display model. Choose based on what you want to make: the templates differ in size, paper requirements, difficulty, and intended use, and a decorative paper model is not a conventional playable guitar.
Choose the kind of paper guitar you want to make
Before printing, decide whether the goal is a simple activity, a small cutout, or a detailed display piece. These projects are not interchangeable: some are designed around experimentation with sound, while others are decorative models.
A simple activity with a sound experiment
Yamaha’s MAKE AND PLAY guitar activity uses a paper guitar shape, cardboard, and rubber bands, and invites makers to experiment with guitar shapes and a box. It is a hands-on instrument-making activity rather than a detailed scale model. Yamaha recommends A3 pattern paper and A3 cardboard for this project; use its own template and instructions for the layout.

A printable cutout
PaperToys offers a free printable guitar cutout that is cut, folded, and secured with tape or glue. The publisher describes its design as based on a Fender Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Stratocaster. It is a practical starting point when you want a paper guitar without committing to a many-page 3D build.
A detailed decorative model
Canon Creative Park’s Electric Guitar and Electric Guitar 02 are decorative paper-craft builds, not playable instruments. Each listing specifies 18 model sheets and five-star difficulty. Electric Guitar has 10 instruction sheets; Electric Guitar 02 has 14. Canon estimates more than 10 hours of assembly for each model, so treat them as long, intricate projects rather than quick crafts. Both listings recommend matte photo paper for inkjet printing.

Compare templates before you print
Sheet count alone does not tell you how challenging a build will be. Check the finished size, number of parts, paper specification, language and completeness of the instructions, as well as the intended use. The figures below are details stated by the individual publishers or sellers, not results from a controlled comparison.

Match the paper and tools to the chosen template
There is no single paper weight that suits every guitar papercraft. Follow the stock and print-size recommendations for the particular file: a heavier sheet may be appropriate for a model that specifies cardstock, while Yamaha’s activity calls for A3 pattern paper and cardboard. Do not assume that one project’s paper specification applies to another.

- HOBBYMO miniature: the listing specifies 160–240 g/m² paper, along with scissors or a craft knife, ruler, scoring tool, and glue.
- 3DIER model: the listing specifies A4 cardstock, preferably 180–300 gsm, and scissors or a craft knife, ruler, and glue. Tweezers or sticks are optional aids for handling small pieces.
Other sellers may specify different stock. For example, a Payhip guitar sculpture listing calls for 180–210 gsm or 65–105 lb paper or cardboard and lists scissors, white glue, a ruler, and a printer. That is the specification for that listing, not a general rule for guitar templates.
Build the model by following its markings
Templates vary, so let the chosen file’s instructions take priority over any general sequence. Yamaha’s cutout template includes fold lines, tabs, and glue areas; other cited models likewise describe cutting, folding, and joining parts.

- Print at the specified size. Check the template’s paper size and any scale instructions before printing. Yamaha recommends A3 for its activity; HOBBYMO lists one A4/Letter sheet, while 3DIER specifies A4 cardstock.
- Score and crease marked folds. Use the fold lines shown on the template. A ruler and scoring tool can help create neat folds where the instructions call for them.
- Cut the outlines and pieces. Use scissors or a craft knife as appropriate for the shape and your skill level. Take care with blades, especially when children are involved.
- Fold tabs and join matching edges. Apply glue to the marked tabs or edges and assemble the parts in the order given by the instructions. Use tape instead if the selected cutout’s instructions allow it.
- Let glued joints set. Support the parts in their intended shape while the adhesive dries, following the glue maker’s directions.
Check the template’s usage terms
Permissions depend on the specific file. Canon’s English Creative Park page says commercial use of its content is prohibited. Paid-download sellers also state their own personal or private-use restrictions on their listings. Read the terms attached to the exact template before sharing, selling, or using finished models commercially; do not assume one publisher’s rules apply to another’s files.
