Hero Forge Kitbashing is a Pro/Pro+ customization feature that lets you move and scale eligible items beyond their usual attachment points. It offers substantially more freedom for designing a tabletop miniature, but it also adds design work and printability risks. Before ordering, you must pass Hero Forge’s kitbashing quiz; the company also classifies these minis as XL, charges a processing fee for manual review, and treats kitbashed orders as final sale.
What is Hero Forge Kitbashing?
Kitbashing lets you place eligible objects where standard Hero Forge gear placement would not normally allow. You can, for example, shrink a shield and position it on a character’s chest or in a hand. Hero Forge describes the change this way: “Instead of pauldrons automatically being added to your mini’s shoulders, they are added to the mini as a free-floating object, allowing you to move and scale them freely.” See the official Kitbashing feature page.
The available pieces extend beyond gear. Hero Forge’s Kitbashing support guide says most gear and stage objects, many body parts, and some kitbashing-specific objects can be added or adjusted. Objects can be attached to joints or to other objects, with grouping and joint controls for managing more involved arrangements.

Kitbashing is most useful when an item’s ordinary position prevents the pose or visual effect you want. If the standard gear placement already works, the extra controls may not be worth the additional design effort and purchase conditions.
Who can use it, and what does it cost?
Kitbashing is reserved for Hero Forge Pro and Pro+ subscribers. You can initially skip the kitbashing quiz, but Hero Forge requires you to complete it and become “kitbashed certified” before you can add a kitbashed mini to your cart. Subscription details are on the Hero Forge subscriptions page.

Hero Forge says kitbashed minis use the same baseline Refined XL Pricing as other minis, then adds a processing fee for manual review. The system automatically marks kitbashed figures XL to account for their complexity. A stable current price is not stated in the feature documentation, so check the price shown for your configured design and at checkout rather than relying on a general estimate.
Will a kitbashed mini print?
Not every arrangement is printable. Hero Forge’s guidance focuses on whether parts are attached, whether connections are thick enough, and whether the overall shape is stable. Standard gear-menu items use connector pegs; kitbashed additions do not, so you need to make sure added parts are appropriately connected.

- Check contact: Hero Forge warns that an object floating without touching the base mini may be unprintable.
- Check connection thickness: Thin connections can break during production or shipping.
- Check balance and geometry: The official FAQ gives off-balance or twisted geometry as examples of problems that can lead to a printability rejection.
- Inspect from every side: A part that appears attached from the front may still be floating or weakly connected from another angle.
Hero Forge says all its materials can support Kitbashing when a mini is flagged printable. The official FAQ also says an unprintable mini may be purchased as an STL for home printing if it is one complete mini with no floating parts. That option does not make a disconnected design printable as a physical Hero Forge order.

Hero Forge manually reviews each ordered kitbashed model and will contact you if it finds a problem. The feature page says checks generally take two to three business days, but this is not a guaranteed turnaround and busy periods can cause delays. Hero Forge may make small changes to scale, pose, an item, or the mini’s placement to improve printability.

The FAQ places responsibility for following printability guidance on the buyer and disclaims a printability warranty. Kitbashed orders are final sale with no refunds under Hero Forge’s stated policy. You can still contact support if you believe there is a manufacturing defect.
Is the feature worth using?
For a painter or miniature creator who needs an unusual silhouette, prop placement, or custom composition, Kitbashing provides meaningful control that ordinary attachment points cannot. Its value depends on whether that freedom solves a specific design problem: the tradeoff is more hands-on arranging, attention to physical connections, a manual-review fee, and a final-sale purchase.

Hero Forge offers physical custom miniatures, STL downloads, and full-color digital miniatures for virtual tabletop programs, as described on its product formats page. The product information page says STL downloads are delivered to the customer’s account within one business day. These are Hero Forge’s own formats; availability and terms should be checked on the relevant product and checkout pages.
