The date varies from year to year because Holi follows a Hindu lunisolar calendar. For 2026, the Controller of Communication Accounts, Delhi lists Holika Dahan on Tuesday, March 3, and Holi on Wednesday, March 4. Incredible India also lists Holi on March 4, 2026. These dates apply to 2026 and should not be treated as a date for subsequent years.

Holika Dahan does not follow one uniform ritual sequence or set of offerings across India. One documented example is Konkan Shimga, described by Maharashtra Tourism: communities hold a bonfire, offer prayers, perform traditional songs and dances, and may offer coconut and grains. In this regional account, color play known as Rang Panchami takes place a few days after Holika Dahan. This is one regional description, not a complete account of Holi practices elsewhere.
